Password changes must be carried out at the ETH on the ETH network or ETH Wi-Fi and may not be carried out via a VPN connection. Before changing a password, you must log out of and close all open applications and connec-tions to ETH systems (Outlook, web browsers, File Explorer, RDS, Euler…). Wi-Fi 1. Click on "Internet Access" in the "Task bar".

2. Select "Network settings" or "View Connection Settings".

3. Select "Manage known networks".

4. Select ETH Wi-Fi "eth" and/or "eth-5" and click on "Forget".

5. Reboot the computer, then go back to the "Task bar” and click on "Internet Access" to add the ETH Wi-Fi network again.

6. Click on the "eth" or "eth-5" wireless network, select "Connect automatically" and click on "Connect".

7. Add the NETHZ login information and confirm your entry with "OK". Important: The username must show "d\" for the ETH domain.

8. Click on "Connect" to confirm the certificate.

A connection should then be established with the ETH Wi-Fi network. Tip: If the following error message appears: "Can't connect to this network", try rebooting the computer and repeating steps 5 - 8. If it still doesn't work, please contact IT Support.

Windows Credential Manager The Windows login data is saved in the Windows Credential Manager.

1. Right click on "Search Windows" and enter "Credential Manager", then click on "Creden-tial Manager".

2. All the passwords saved locally in Windows are shown under "Windows Creden-tials". To see details of individual entries and password entries with your own NETHZ account, click on "Edit" to replace the password. Tip: It is also possible to select "Remove" for individual password entries. In this case, the programme will ask you to enter your password again the next time you use it.

3. Select "Web Credentials" (this is where passwords saved in the Web browsers "Edge" or "Internet Explorer" are stored).

Delete the ETH passwords saved here by selecting "Remove".

Microsoft Outlook Mail Account When you launch Microsoft Outlook, it notices automatically if the password you have configured is out of date, and will ask for the new password. After launching Outlook, enter the new password in the "Windows Security" window, select "Re-member my credentials" and confirm with "OK".

PIA printers Password entries for PIA printers are saved under "Windows Credentials” in the "Credential Manager".

• Open the "Credential Manager" and select "Windows Credentials" (step 1 in the "Win-dows Credential Manager" chapter)

• Open the current PIA printer entries and click on "Edit" to modify the password. There may be password entries for the following PIA printer servers which will need to be changed:

o pia01.d.ethz.ch o pia02.d.ethz.ch o piastud01.d.ethz.ch

Tip: If it is impossible to print on the PIA printer, the relevant PIA printer must be deleted and added again.

• To delete a PIA printer: Click on the "Start" button, type in "print" and select "Devices and Printers".

• Right click on the relevant printer and select "Remove device" in the context menu to remove the printer.

Follow the instructions given here to add the PIA printer again: https://www1.ethz.ch/id/services/list/print_service/pers/windows

Network drives When you open the network drives in Windows Explorer, the following window will appear: "En-ter network credentials", and you will be prompted to enter the new password. Enter the new password, activate "Remember Credentials" and confirm with "OK".

Polybox Client Polybox Client is active in the background and the "Enter Password" window will open automati-cally after a password change so that you can enter the new password.

Tip: If Polybox does not ask you for the new password automatically after a password change, right click on Polybox Client in the task bar and select "Log out".

After logging out, right click on Polybox Client, which is now greyed out, and click on "Log in...". The "Enter Password" window will now open so that you can enter the new password.

ETH-domain computer Instructions for computers that are managed by the IT department or local IT Support. Password changes must always be carried out at the ETH on the ETH network. The device should be connected to the ETH network via a network cable. The following steps must be fol-lowed after changing the NETHZ password:

1. Reboot the computer 2. Log in with the new password 3. After logging in successfully, you should test all the applications and functions. If errors or

problems occur with any applications or functions, please contact the relevant IT Sup-port.

Tip: If you have problems logging in, please proceed as follows: 1. Check whether you have a network connection. If so, go straight to step 2. If not, check

that the network cable is connected properly and reboot the device. If there is still no network connection, please contact the relevant IT Support.

2. Check whether the keyboard language has been set correctly and change if necessary.

3. Check whether an extra space has been inserted by mistake before or after the username. If the problem persists, please contact the relevant IT Support.

Spadmin Password Change

You work with your standard nethz user account for security reasons in order to protect your com-puter by preventing making changes that affect everyone who uses the computer, such as deleting files that are required for the computer to work or changing settings.

The password should match the password of the nethz user account. In case if you change the ETHZ Password, we recommend to change the spadmin password to. Login as spadmin (.\spadmin) with the old Password

Now type in your old Password, then type in your new NETHZ Password 2 Times

Finger Print Login If you use your finger to login you have to re-register your finger print after you updated your password. Search (Win + S) for Set up fingerprint sign-in

Remove your Fingerprint

Add a New Fingerprint, follow the procedure on the Monitor

After these 2 Steps you should be able to login again with your Fingerprint.

Web browsers If passwords have been saved in web browsers, the passwords will need to be entered again when opening the relevant websites. The web browser will automatically ask if the password entry should be updated. Click on "Update" in the "Would you like to update this login?" window. Mozilla Firefox: Google Chrome:

Tip: You can follow the steps below to delete passwords saved in web browsers for ETH web services:

• Edge / Internet Explorer: Password entries saved by the web browsers Edge and In-ternet Explorer are stored under "Web Credentials" in the "Credential Manager" To delete these passwords, follow the steps listed in the "Windows Credential Manag-er" chapter.

• Mozilla Firefox: -Open Mozilla Firefox and click on "Open menu", then select "Options".

-Select "Security" in the menu on the left and click on "Saved Logins..."

- Search for all "ethz" password entries, select them, then click on "Remove". Confirm that you wish to delete by selecting "Yes".

-Close the window again by clicking on "Close".

• Google Chrome:

-Open a website with a saved password and click on the key symbol next to the website address, then select "Manage passwords".

-Search for "ethz" password entries and delete the password entries individually with the "x".

IE 11 Compatible View If you don’t see the next button within the password change dialog when using Internet Explorer please disable the Compatibility View set-tings

Open the Compatibility View Settings by clicking the little gear icon.

Unselect both checkboxes then reload the webpage. Now you should see the Next Button.
