Changing Over Bulletin
From Megan and Phil DG Megan
Bulletin placed Contact Details
By Lions Club of
JULY 2018 DGE Phil
Greetings everyone - this is my last bulletin article as my year as District Governor draws to a close and very shortly we welcome a new District Governor to lead the District for 2018/2019.
My year has certainly flown and as I reflect on the last year, I have so many memories that there is not enough room here to write them all down.
I will share some of those memories at the handover on 21st July including some of the photos we have taken.
Peter and I are attending the International Con-vention in Las Vegas where the first female International President - Gudrun- will be in-ducted and where DGE Phil Bowman will al-so be inducted.
Membership is still an issue, however our mem-ber numbers are 1204 as I write this article. We started on July 1 2017 at 1220 members so our drops have not been as dramatic as some other Districts. However I had hoped we would have been out of transition but alas it was not meant to be. Maybe next year.
Thankyou to all clubs and members for your support over the last 12 months. We have met lots of passionate Lions members in great
clubs. Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the handover on July 21st.
Thankyou for everything you do for your club, community and District.
DGE Phil and Jeanette - have a wonderful time in Las Vegas and good luck for the coming year.
DG Megan Butler
“NEW BOY ON THE BLOCK”
Wow, time is moving so fast and I can’t believe in just a couple of days Jeanette and I will be on our way to Las Vegas for the last of my DG Training.
I will then be inducted as C1 District Governor on 3rd of July, the day that also sees the Induc-tion of the first female International President of Lions International.
I will be District Governor, a step I have been working towards for the past 3 years since I was asked back in February 2015 by PDG Rob Royal.
It’s a step, not unlike the step up to be Presi-dent of your own club, that you or anyone can take as a member of Lions International. Some clubs in our District are finding it difficult to en-courage new Presidents, so we find ourselves with Lions who have been Presidents or Secre-tary’s or Treasurers for 8,9,10 or 20 years.
I would like you to think about that next move in Lions to take on a Club Board position, be-cause if you don’t, then we end up where we find ourselves today, with the real possibility of closing 2 clubs. Not only can they not find a new President but cannot find new members which is a sign of the times in not only Lions Clubs but all Service Clubs World Wide.
Being President is not a difficult job, as I keep saying it’s probably one of the easiest jobs in a club because you have a great team working with you and with delegation, you hopefully find the club runs well.
Why not reconsider, because LIONS IS IN YOUR HANDS, and if you don’t do something, it won’t get done and clubs will stay as they are.
Why not invite new members of the community
to a FREE breakfast or brunch on a Saturday or
Sunday morning and provide information on
Lions, show Video’s have Q&A.
We have a great GMT team wanting to help you
plan to increase your membership numbers;
plan to make changes to the way you run your
club to improve fellowship and increase reten-
tion. Remember “Your Club Your Way”———->

Finally, don’t forget about the projects that you can do in
your own communities to increase your administration ac-
count and thereby lower your membership fees to your
members. There are many different ideas around the Dis-
trict, where clubs work at times to increase their administra-
tion funds.
One very last thing is ENJOY what you are doing as you work
for your communities, but above all at the end of the day
ENJOY the FELLOWSHIP when working on your community
projects.
DGE Phil Bowman
How can we help your School?
This was the question asked when a member of the Clare Lions Club rang the Principal of the Brinkworth Primary School, Kel Barns. A discussion ensued, and finally it was decided that the school needed a 3D Printer. Funds are raised during the year and distributed throughout the community at the end of the Lions year.
This idea was put to a vote by the club members and all agreed this would be a great way to help some of our local school students. Approximately 4 weeks later an invitation was received from the Brinkworth School stu-dents, inviting the Lions to a demonstration of this new piece of equipment. Off we went. They sat us down in front of a computer screen and commenced to instruct us all on how to use a 3D Printer! Many laughs from these youngsters and the Lions members as we muddled our way thru and finally began to “print” a small bubble blower. A wonderful afternoon was had by all, with plen-ty of goodies to go with the Tea and Coffee

201C1 District Competition. Hi C1 Lions,
For the 2018/2019 Lions year, the C1 Membership team are running a competition throughout the 201C1 District challenging clubs to be the club who gains/inducts the most members. This means the most members gained above the number dropped in this new Li-ons year. So, if your club inducts 10 new members, but “drops” 12, that is a negative result (-2), but gain 10 members, and only drop 1, woohoo, that makes plus 9!
This may appear to be a difficult task with numbers generally dropping throughout C1, but if your Zone Chair, Club Membership Chair and the club team can focus on Retaining ex-isting members, the positive membership numbers will soon follow.
One of the main reasons the C1 Membership Team have introduced this is to try and en-courage clubs to focus on gaining more members.
The other reason, and more importantly, is to reward the clubs who recognise that falling membership is a problem, and that they will be rewarded for their efforts to Retain ex-isting members, while still gaining new members.
So, the winning club will be awarded a cash prize of $250.00 and will also be presented with two tickets to the next C1 District Convention.
These new members will include any members inducted through a Club Branch, because they will be members of your club, the “Host” club.
Start now to plan to win. Competition starts 1/7/2018. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to ask!

I opened the door, she looked at me and said: "I just got home, and I have this strong urge to go dancing and drink-ing, and maybe fool around a little....you know, have some fun. Are you doing anything tonight?" I quickly replied: "Nope, I'm free!" - "Great!" she said. "Can you look after my dog ?"

At the recently completed MD201 convention in Towns-ville, the Australian Chapter of LCI Stamp Club handed over a record $25500 to the Australian Lions Childrens Mobility Foundation. In making the presentation, Stamp Club secre-tary Ross Paine (Tewantin Noosa Q4) thanked the many clubs and individuals who have sourced and donated stamps and collections to them during the year. “We are always seeking new avenues for donations and our state coordinators are always ready to assist and even collect the larger donations”.
The club has been assisting ALCMF now since 2004 and the latest donation brings the total to more than $93000. This figure includes $50000 in the past 3 years.
The stamp club is always seeking the support of more clubs as the use of stamps slows down due to internet/emails and rising postage costs. They can also handle old collec-tions, first day covers, albums etc – in fact anything phila-telic. Would you like to know more – do you think you can assist? Please contact Ross on 0419 449 881 or email him at [email protected] He would love to hear from you and will be able to direct you to the nearest state col-lection point.

2018 Handover night at Gilles Plains Lions club was attended by 20 members and partners of Gilles Plains Lions club and Mawson Lakes Club Branch. There were also 4 invited guests, including PDG Paddy McKay and Lion Malcolm, Councillor Vanessa McClusky from City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council and Debra Poole.
M.C. Lion Ray Norton opened the evening and club mem-bers read the Invocation, Lions clubs Purposes and pro-posed the Loyal Toast. President Ted Osborn introduced and welcomed our guests and visitors.
Councillor Vanessa McCluskey proposed the Toast to Li-ons clubs International, outlining the work that Lions do locally, District, Nationally and Internationally. PDG Paddy gave an animated response as only Paddy can.
Debra Poole was then inducted into Gilles Plains Lions club by PDG Paddy. She was welcomed into the Lions fam-ily by club members.
Awards were then presented by Pres. Ted to those that had earned Perfect Attendance tabs. Lion Ray Norton re-ceived a Centenary Award for his untiring work done for the club. For an 85 y.o., he is still active in club activities and as Membership Chairman.
Following the Awards, PDG Paddy conducted the “Rededication” ceremony, as all positions were retained for a second year. Pres. Ted introduced the Board and they confirmed their willingness to do their best for the club.
President Ted then outlined his proposed agenda for 2018/2019. We can all look forward to an active year.
Now for some fun. A quiz was distributed with a list of jumbled Adelaide suburb names. It is surprising how diffi-cult this can be. Everyone enjoyed participating.
After the drawing of the usual raffle, the Lions Code of Ethics was read by Lion Alex Coates from Mawson Lakes Club Branch. Pres. Ted gave notices of upcoming activities and Birthdays. The meeting was then closed.
A fun night was enjoyed by all, the night was not too late and most went home with a raffle prize.

I am delighted to advise that District Governor Elect Phil Bowman has asked me to continue on as District Bulletin Editor for 2018/2019. A big thank you to District Governor Megan for allowing me to serve the members in the district by being the Bulletin Editor during 2017/2018.
It has been a great experience, receiving and editing the many articles and photographs that come to me for in-clusion. Please keep the information coming.
A couple of requests that I have are
1. Keep your articles to a maximum of 500 words.
2. Reduce your photograph size to less than 100mB
3. Please keep your advertisements to half size A4 in a vertical format, (Sample shown on the right) not A5, and use Microsoft Word. This way it is simple for me to convert the file and put it in the bulletin without retyping it. Example is on page 11.
4. If your article has to be full page, then that is ok, but please design it in MS Word, use a font that has high definition, and don’t convert the file to .pdf.
Thank you for the feedback that you have sent. The com-pliments are greatly appreciated. Ted Osborn District Bulletin Editor

Our Price is $100 or make an offer, and can be inspected at our shed, which is located within the Port Adelaide Enfield Council Depot, Rellum Road, Greenacres. An ap-pointment is necessary as access to the shed is limited.

On Wednesday 6th June Mawson Lakes Lions Club Branch hosted their Biggest Morning Tea in collaboration with the Mawson Lakes Hotel supporting the Cancer Council SA.
Held at the Hotel with a delicious assortment of cake and morning tea, we raised funds and heard from a Cancer survi-vor who shared their story, thanked us and encouraged the club to continue to support this great cause and charity.
We certainly hope in our lifetime, a cure for cancer is discov-ered. In the meantime we will do all we can to support efforts to find a cure, prevention and help support everyone suffering from cancer and their families.
Thank you to everyone who came and supported this event, if you couldn’t but would like to still donate please do so or if you have or know someone with Cancer and need some sup-port: https://www.cancersa.org.au
Our efforts to support this cause and charity continue in Au-gust with Daffodil Day where we plan to sell daffodils/merchandise, share stories and collect donations at the local Mawson Lakes train station. Last year we collected over $600.

The Brand new blonde waitress, not wanting to appear stupid, went to the kitchen and said to the cook “this guy out there just ordered three flat tyres. A pair of headlights and a pair of running boards…. What does he think this place is an auto parts shop?”
“No” said the cook. “Three flat tyres mean, three pancakes, a pair of headlights is two eggs sunny side up, and a pair of running boards…are 2 slices of crisp bacon”
“Oh, OK!” said the blonde. She thought about it for a mo-ment and then spooned a bowl of baked beans and gave it to the customer.
The truckie asked, “What are the beans for blondie?”
