Discussion

SOURCE STATEMENT AGREE/DISAGREE

Dolfinget al., 2008

Only after hydrogen and aceticacid or formic acid were consumed by methanogens can acetogenscontinue to degrade fatty acids.

AGREESpecies with syntrophic relationship.

Lomans et al., 1999 Methanomethylovorans can use methanol and trimthylamine to produce methane, but not H₂/CO₂.

DISAGREE. Found only in reactor A. increased VFA favors bacterias that can only use H₂/CO₂.

Discussion

SOURCE STATEMENT AGREE/DISAGREE

Mohana et al., 2007; Ghoshet al., 2004

Bacterias need extra nutrients to grow when biotreating MAW. six genera was enriched and degraded 44% of thecarbon compounds of MAW after biostimulation.

DISAGREE. The proportion of some bacterial orders in sample with MAW were actually higher than in sample without MAW.

Dahiya et al., 2001;Tusanee et al., 2008

MAW is harmful to microorganisms becauseof its complex components. The toxic substances in MAW ormetabolites produced from transforming some unknown ingredients may affect some bacterium.

AGREE. The declining COD removal indicatedthat MAW has indeed effected on the microbial activity.

Page 18: Changes in microbial community structure in two anaerobic systems to treat bagasse spraying wastewater with and without addition of molasses alcohol wastewater

Conclusions

• The combination DGGE and clone selection provides a more

accurate study of archaeal community.

• While the microbial growth may be affected by the

components of MAW, the adittion of it to the reactor does not

make a huge difference on the existence of many bacterial

orders.

Page 19: Changes in microbial community structure in two anaerobic systems to treat bagasse spraying wastewater with and without addition of molasses alcohol wastewater

Conclusions

• The bagasse spraying wastewater with adittion of MAW

definitely makes more difficult the microbial growth, this

shows that anaerobic fermentation techniques with MAW

need to be studied further.

• This study showed how important it is to develop techniques

that are more environmentally-friendly, since contamination is

one of the biggest problems nowadays.
