New high pressure results in the Al doped magnetite indicate that doping strongly affects the rate with which Verwey transition temperature is suppressed by the pressure. The data is in agreement with the mean field theory of the Verwey transition that assumes charge ordering in magnetite.

Broader Impact: In 2010-2011 three undergraduate students, Zhanna Shirshikova (female), Chris Knab and Theo Jegorel who is an exchange student from the University of Technology of Troyes, France actively participated in the PI’s research.

Zhanna presented the results obtained in 2010-2011 the March APS meeting and she is a coauthor of the paper submitted to PRL. Chris was instrumental for the design of the cryostat holder that was acquired through the NSF MRI-R2 award and Theo is working on the data for another paper that will be sent to the Journal of Raman spectroscopy.
