COURSE OVERVIEW ABOUT YOUR COURSE LEADER

Change is an inherent characteristic of any organisation; all organisations must undergo change at some point to remain relevant. Most government organisations are set up to promote stability, routine and predictability. Yet, their operating contexts are subject to continual pressures for change. It is essential to understand the issue of change management and implement it with least disruption and difficulty. Managing successful change is a blend of process, planning and execution. The people element within the Government is an important aspect, which needs particular consideration. The course is built around an understanding of the constraints that many public sector managers work under, and how these constraints affect the change process. The scope of this guideline is best practice in change management from the development of the concept for the project to the realisations of the project’s benefits. The guideline describes the change management process as involving:• Clarification of the roles of senior management in change• Identifying what is required to manage the change associated with a project• Instituting change accountability, performance and rewards• Planning stakeholder engagement, change leadership and communication• Relating and applying the dimensions of the ADKAR Prosci model for understanding change• Understanding the importance of resiliency and flexibility in the context of change
