Indiana University Kokomo is a world-class regional campus, serving northcentral Indiana. During this academic year we have welcomed the largest freshman class, seen overall record enrollment increases of nearly 10 percent, and enrolled the highest number of full-time students. We are on the move!

We are forward-looking, innovative, and recognize our role in preparinggraduates for the changing economy and global competition. Our focus is on academic excellence and student success, making friends and building rela-tionships, and transforming north central Indiana. In a short time, we developed many new initiatives such as 12 new academic degree programs, added online and Friday courses, which give students greater flexibility in class scheduling and enhanced student life. In 2011, we launched men’s basketball and women’s volleyball as club sports and plan to join the National Association of Intercolle-giate Athletics by fall 2012. We are implementing innovative approaches to sav-ing students money, while ensuring degree completion. Our efforts and success have attracted state and national attention.

The campus has become a place where students not only get a great educa-tion, but also enjoy studying and spending time in an invigorating environment. IU Kokomo has truly become a cool place to be! We know we must create a sense of community and belonging in order for our students to have thecomplete college experience and pursue the American dream. While we have made great strides, there is so much more we need to do.

I am writing to share with you that we believe a critical component is missing to assure student success – the empowerment of a healthy lifestyle. I am appeal-ing to you to help us bridge that gap. The addition of a Wellness and Fitness Center to IU Kokomo will provide the opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to get together in a positive, healthy environment, and promote thedevelopment of lifelong healthy habits. It would also provide opportunities to expand allied health programs, such as sports medicine and athletic training.

IU Kokomo is on the move! I enthusiastically invite you to join us and be a part of this incredible journey. I am asking you to please lend your support in thecreation of the Wellness and Fitness Center.
