• API Standards began in 1923.

• Published the first specification for Drill Pipe Thread in 1924.

• More than 6000 volunteers from over 50 countries involved in development of API standards.

• API has published 600 standards in all areas of oil and gas industry.

• Any person from any company can participate in standards development.

Two essential industry Specs for Quality Management Systems

Why need API Spec Q1?

• Industry expects greater quality and safety each year with fewer accidents and fewer injuries caused by poor quality

• Industry views a more stringent quality management system as a benchmark

• Industry’s opinion of ISO 9001 certification has changed – it can not meet requirements for Manufacturers in oil and gas industry

• API Spec Q1 is considered to be a minimum qualification for suppliers in the oil and gas industry

Why need API Spec Q2?

• Industry has reacted strongly to the accident in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. API took a strong position is its response • API put all of its offshore environmental and safety standards on line free of charge• API committees immediately began working on improvements to standards and practices

• Industry requires reduction of time and money lost of NPT

• The first quality management system standard for the Service Providers

• Further Standardizing the Global Supply Chain

• API Spec Q2 was published in Dec 2011.
