ABOUT OUR PUBLICATION

Dickinsonchamber.org

A New Direction For Our

It is with mixed feelings that I am writing to you today in only my second Chamberline report and also my last, as this will be the last issue of Chamberline published by the Chamber.

On Thursday, September 17th your Board of Directors met in a strategic planning session. Many great ideas were discussed within that meeting and the Board came away with several outcomes that will affect you, our members for the better.

The Chamber of Commerce, like other businesses is moving forward into the digital age where some of our traditions do not fit anymore. One of those traditions is the Chamberline newsletter. Each month for years you have been getting the Chamberline in your mailbox and lately through your email as well. Some of you read it each month cover to cover but lately the opening rates on the email editions have been slowly declining and the printing and mailing costs have been increasing.

The staff here at the Chamber does an incredible job in putting this piece together and we spend several days each month creating that publication. This edition of the Chamberline will be the last edition that the staff will create. However this does not mean the end to you getting the Chamber news. Your Dickinson Chamber staff will be working hard to replace the information flow that usually appears in the Chamberline with the weekly newsletter that comes in your email as well as an increase in our social media marketing.

This shift towards the social media marketing will be a difficult one, and a very delicate one. We promise to remain responsible, measured and deliberate in our efforts to market your business and to give you all the events and news happenings. This shift has occurred as a result of research and long deliberations with Board and staff to determine what, in this rapidly changing market, the Chamber must do to better support its members. We now stand poised to be the voice of the Dickinson area business community.

In the next several months the staff at the Chamber will be developing our social media marketing program that will become the focus for events, happenings and business news. You will see us developing our Facebook and Twitter programs as well as short video presentations that will inspire all of our businesses to action. With your help and our amazing staff we will become the social media experts for our business community.

So if you haven’t liked our Facebook page or follow us on our Twitter feed please do so as we start moving into this new adventure we call the future!

For those of you who rely on the Chamberline to advertise we have other options for your businesses. Please give us a call or stop in and we can inform you of all the great advertising opportunities that are available.

Stay tuned!

Sincerely,

Jerry W. Cole

Today's leaders from Dickinson and Trinity high schools teamed up to conquer the high ropes course in Medora, North Dakota. This is the first session of many for the year. This months objective is team building and leadership skills. They

took on several different tasks that challenged trust for themselves and each other.

To finish off the day they hiked up to the cross on the butte, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Medora badlands. Today's activity brought them closer together and excited for what lies ahead for the rest of the blessed year.

Prairie Business magazine announces 50 Best Places to Work

The September issue of Prairie Business magazine will celebrate the 50 Best Places to Work in the northern Plains. Companies were nominated through an anonymous employee satisfaction survey and rated in areas including work environment, employee benefits and employee happiness. Consideration was also given to the number of nominations received per company. The top 25 small for-profit companies (99 or fewer full-time employees) and the top 25 large for-profit companies (100+ employees) will be honored in the magazine, which is available today on www.prairiebizmag.com.

“People want to be happy at work. It's just that simple,” said Korrie Wenzel, publisher. “The businesses that truly care -- about their people as well as the future of the business itself -- need to understand that. As the region's unemployment level plunges, businesses are quickly realizing that they have to work harder to recruit and retain the best workers.”

Now in the second year of hosting the Best Places to Work contest, Prairie Business received nearly 2,500 surveys nominating more than 140 companies. “Prairie Business is proud to present the 50 Best Places to Work. These businesses are showing their commitment to being great and we're happy to tell you about it,” Wenzel said. “Also, we're proud to report that there are many, many other companies in our region that are not as heralded, but still understand that employees are their greatest asset. What does that tell us? It tells us that it's a great time to work in the Dakotas and western Minnesota.”

Dakota Outdoor Advertising is celebrating its first full year since their digital billboards came to life in Dickinson! For over a century, static billboards have been dotting the landscape across the nation, and have been an effective way for businesses to market themselves. With the advances in technology in recent years, the computer-controlled electronic displays have taken billboard advertising to new heights. “Today, we are living in a digital world and our signs have evolved into these bright, bold and beautiful displays that drive new business to our customers,” explains Mike Derby, owner/managing member of Dakota Outdoor Advertising. “Digital media is the perfect solution for the advertiser who wants the option of changing their message often during a campaign. It gives them a way to target consumers near the point of sale, and put their message exactly where, when, and how audiences want to consume them.” Dakota Outdoor Advertising serves businesses and organizations in several western North Dakota markets including the Dickinson, Williston, Minot and Bismarck areas. Currently there are four digital billboards in the Dickinson community, in addition to 27 static boards. Many people ask, why Dickinson? According to Derby, the answer is simple. “We want to shout it from the roof tops that Dickinson is a huge cornerstone of our Digital Billboard Network in and around the Bakken region. “Not only that, but the flexibility and creativity of digital advertising allows for easily meeting the rapidly changing needs of advertisers in North Dakota’s second fastest growing city.”

Dakota Outdoor Advertising’s commitment to the Dickinson community is evident in the fact they have utilized the power of the digital boards over the past year to promote events such as the statewide Giving Hearts Day 2015 fundraising drive, Dickinson Best Friends Mentoring’s A Chocolate Affair Benefit, and the 29th Annual Sports Persons Stag to benefit the Dickinson Rural Fire Department. They have also supported law enforcement with digital Amber Alerts and Wanted Posters, which have helped lead to the capture of fugitives hiding in the area. Businesses in the Dickinson area are finding out how incredibly dynamic these boards are, along with discovering the results that can be attained as the digital messages drive potential customers to them. “Dollar for dollar, digital advertising is the way to go!” says Emily, event coordinator for the Dickinson Bridal Expo. We had more consumers tell us about the boards around town than about our ad in the newspaper. The digital ad was beautiful and well designed, the consumer love it and we loved it!!!” Jenn, staffing specialist at Wallwork Truck Center, had this to say: “The team at Dakota Outdoor go above and beyond the extra mile! Their customer service is SUPERB; we have been thrilled with the results that were achieved. They are our ‘go-to-team’ in recruiting and sale advertising!” Not only are the boards an effective way to increase traffic to an advertiser’s place of business, but they are also a great way to drive people to a business or organization’s website or Facebook page. “The digital billboard’s message is simple, yet powerful, and creates a wonderful opportunity for advertisers to communicate their message,” says Derby. “Our creative team produces artwork designed to capture the public’s attention and get proven results.” The billboards are set to rotate through a maximum of six ad slots, which means the boards are not overloaded with images that may cause an advertisers campaign to be lost in the shuffle. Each image is presented on the board for eight seconds at a time, and are displayed a total of up to 1800 times in every 24 hour period. Derby says his company is proud to be an active member of the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, and has en-joyed a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the business community. “We want to thank the businesses who have been advertising with us and who are taking advantage of the newness of the digital boards,” says Derby. “We are dedicated to investing in Dickinson, and we want to continue investing for years into the future.” There are some exciting promotions and special advertising campaigns running, according to Michael Bushendorf, the company’s market manager in the Dickinson and Bismarck areas. As a seasoned veteran of the advertising industry, he is eager to talk with anyone who wants to know how they can become a digital billboard advertiser. Give Michael a call today at 701-590-0992 and let the power of Dakota Outdoor Advertising digital billboard advertising go to work for you!
