Challenges and Trends in Enterprise Mobility Management

Enterprise mobility has proved to be an opportunity for organizational transformation. Anytime, anywhere access to information and realization of business benefits like better customer service, employee satisfaction, new business opportunities and reduced operating cost are crucial drivers to implementing enterprise mobility across industry verticals. All of these factors have turned mobility into a key component of enterprise IT infrastructure, driving mobile investments and propelling growth of the global enterprise mobility market which is projected to exceed $160 billion by the year 2015.

Gartner expects the EMM to continue evolving and thus posing challenges for vendors and service providers. “As enterprises' use of mobility becomes increasingly complex, their requirements to protect data and support users will become more complex as well.”

The primary challenges of enterprise mobility come down to three C’s:

Cost, Complexity Corporate data security

To understand the challenges enterprise mobility faces represented by the 3C’s, more details are giving in the following points:

1. Personal & Professional Device Use: BYOD has created a gray area for businesses near the line that should separate company and personal information. You want your employees to have the tools necessary to perform well and instituting a BYOD policy is an excellent way to invite the use of such tools without incurring additional costs on the company. But when these tools play host to personal and company information, it becomes increasingly difficult to draw the line between what is acceptable and what isn’t for use during business hours. It can also be tricky to manage these devices because your business must always respect personal boundaries, thus bringing us to the first major challenge that enterprise mobility management solutions seek to resolve.

2. Maze of Applications & Software: Another challenge that enterprise mobility management solutions aim to fix is knowing how to implement applications and software across the board so that all devices are seamlessly working together to enhance communication and productivity while allowing for fluid mobile information gathering and inputting, including the legacy systems paradox.

3. Security : Today’s enterprise mobility management solutions must focus on the newest challenge that has surfaced in lieu of transferring pertinent information from the confines of your business walls to the virtual territory of cloud computing. Security is a major issue that can sometimes throw a lot of hurdles into the race. And this challenge is made increasingly difficult to face because in order for enterprise mobility to work, there must exist a balance between security and usability.

4. Mobile Access Gap: Enterprise mobility isn’t just about accessing email or having the ability to search the Internet. Field service employees are taking on more applications than ever to bolster their ability to provide superior field performance. Remote access to

tools like CRM, work-order management, GIS and mapping and inventory databases are essential to employee performance but these access points are rarely designed for mobile admission.

5. Compliances and Security 90% of IT professionals said that they have strong concern when sharing content via mobile devices. In BYOD policy, this risk factor further increases as it may affect the policies of a company. For this, a proper management and connection is vital so that none of the confidential data get leaked at any case.

6. Costs and Risk. We are aware of the risk factor and to minimize the risk and to increase the security it definitely affects the cost to the entire system. To keep a system free from all risk and threats it important to install the essentials apps which increase the cost.

7. Choosing the right mobility device. Now this is again important. Understand the requirements and your clients or customers. Choose the device which can help or assist the majority of a share. Keep it open and work accordingly.

Future Trends of EMM

Trends that will impact this Mobility (according to Gartner) :

1. BYOD is the biggest change that will affect the enterprise mobility.2. Creating individual apps becomes so obvious for the smooth work and accessing.3. Identity and access management (IAM) this is a trend which gives the authority or access

to the appropriate users. The main focus is on – one time sign-on, adaptive access control and privacy.

4. Security and Risk. This is the major concern while accessing the confidential data. So systems should be such which have all the security controls such as authentication, encryption, device wipe and anti-malware. In this cloud security is again a biggest concern.

5. Collaboration and Content – Dealing with iPads and tablets are different from the traditional desktops. So in this, keeping the apps and synchronization, to have up-to-date files on all their devices plays a greater role.

6. The infrastructure, to have a seamless work LAN and WLAN is the criticality. The main challenges are network design, network management and problem diagnosis etc. So, it’s important to make a smooth layout and check the possibilities where you can make the infrastructure seamless.

Among companies that provide mobile devices, 76 percent provide smartphones and 61 percent provide tablets, implying that many workers are operating in a three‐device environment. More than 70 percent of all companies, regardless of BYOD stance, have made some level of investment in mobile devices and technologies. There has been no significant progress in building formal mobility policies over the past year. Just 30 percent of companies have such a policy in place. Security is one of the top challenges for companies, including the ability to centrally monitor and control security; and poor security implementation by end users.
