Challenger has been providing quality services for over 30 years to the Petroleum and Mineral industries in Australia based out of Adelaide, South Australia. During this time Challenger has developed a reputation for reliable and quality services tailored to the clients needs at competitive prices.Origin of the name "Challenger"
The "Challenger Expedition" from 1872 to 1874 took place in the Great Southern Ocean as a scientific expedition to sample the vast sea beds. HMS Challenger a corvette of 2306 tonnes, combining steam and sail carried out the expedition under the direction of Sir George Nares.
Reports from the expedition occupy fifty volumes and many of the samples collected are stored at the Natural History Museum in London. Many of the samples collected by the scientific staff are still to be examined.
The safe preservation of samples is essential for future scientific study. Challenger Geological Services chose the name Challenger in recognition of this scientific expedition of world significance.
