Experience and Discover

O What is our idea behind designing “Key and Lock”?

- After when many implementations are done in our country in regard of reducing therate of unemployment, it is unfortunate to write that the unemployment rate in Pakistanis increasing at a startling rate of 6% per year in the last five years. We believe thatevery country has it’s own nature of problems and issues, and one’s solution can notwork at times to be a solution for some one else’s problems. This is where we decidedthat we have to find ground issues and then identify concrete and effective solutionswhich can be used as a KEY to UNLOCK the LOCKS OF UNEMPLOYMENT inPAKISTAN.

- Since the idea is emerged after going through self-experienced unemploymenttraumas, the concept best describes it’s implementation in Pakistan.

- We have drawn conclusions by going through the procedure of proper Survey in ourdepartments, and unfortunately the results themselves spoke the reason behind risingunemployment (though there are multi-factorial reasons for unemployment in Pakistan). Many students including the TEAM of LOCK & KEY MODEL study at governmentschools and colleges (which are affordable for a very huge population of Pakistan)which lack in giving students a great back up with practical knowledge of the field, plusthere is no personal and professional grooming seen among students and graduateshowever the students of Private schools and universities (these schools anduniversities are not affordable by a massive population because of there high fees) areblessed with many facilities where government school students lack behind. This iswhere a tough competition in market happens when a great pool of groomedindividuals compete with those who have never been blessed with the learningenvironment. As the two types of educational systems (with other too), are creating bighurdles for the students to even CHASE EMPLOYMENT!

- There is one big issue too, some of the educational institutes have got there names inmarket and there graduates get jobs easily, where as those who lack behind gettingadmission in such schools (who compose a large population) stay unemployed for long.

A Shocking & Alarming FACT!O We are at 3rd year of our university, means we will be graduating in year 2013. 90 per cent of the

graduates of year 2012 of our departments are still searching for jobs.

O We did a survey among our fellows from which we have drawn following conclusion:

- 90 per cent of the students have never attended any internship.

- 7 per cent have done internships.

- 3 per cent had never heard about the word, INTERNSHIP!

What’s Situation HERE!

Due to unemployment it has become very tough meeting financial obligations. There is high financial stress, psychological torture, distress among students. We are also counted among them! Even after Graduating, finding a JOB is one of the mammoth task, as nearly few finds and rest are fired. It can be added here, that unemployment rate is over 12 per cent in Pakistan.

It not just we, students who are suffering but also families who are going through a tough tension phase!

O Yes, when we complete our studies it becomes tough, sometimes nearly impossible getting jobs, and thisbrings further complications in life. The education has lacks in practical knowledge in regard of therelative field, which even makes it really tough passing interviews even after when we are shortlisted.

Example From Team – Our Friend – Mujeeb!

There are many examples, but we have one which just happened few months back. Out friend Mujeeb isnever satisfied with the Education System followed in his school. He thought himself lacking inexperience, knowledge and practical information for becoming best in his field of interest and that isEconomics. After completing high school, he was enrolled in University, he never understood the teachingway and how things are being taught. At last when he became fed up of learning books and books, hedecided to go abroad and study there. One day when he got internship offer in a company where hersister was working, he went straight to his teacher to write a recommendation letter (as it was required). In spite of helping the student, she ignored! This made him loose his motivation. He chose Australia as acountry which will allow him explore his potentials and be the best in his field. No doubt we all are proudof him. He is 19 year old, working and also studying at Sydney. He is paying for his own fees and allother expenses. He is happy there and is enjoying his life with good education and great learningenvironment!

Yes We Are AFFECTED!

Causes of Youth Unemployment

Load shedding

Lack of technical and vocational institutes

Defective Education System

Teaching staff- away from understanding needs of students

Students- with no proper resource about practical applications of field

No forum for discovering hidden potentials, exploring talents

There is need to understand that we are lacking in finding proper KEY to unlock

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT. Defective education system and dual standards of

education is causing highly saturated numbers of unemployed individuals.

Solution After going through many processes and procedures of discussions,

research, and evaluation of resulting outcomes of unemployment andreasons which are causing it to prevail, we propose a solution modelwhich speaks of reality, and can be achieved within allotted time tocombat youth unemployment in Pakistan. There are solutions whichare solutions on screen means implementation of them are beyondreach. We are proposing a real, tangible and concrete solution planwhich is going to be helpful for youth.

IS THIS A UNIQUE IDEA? HOW?

We have been learning about different ideas which are alreadyimplemented (related to our country), there are some which givesopportunities on there websites, but it becomes very tough for thestudents to apply on individual bases and many have complaint ofeven no response after sending all required documentations. We havediscussed and came to a conclusion that there is a HUGE GAP ofCOMMUNICATION between COMPANIES, STUDENTS & EDUCATIONALINSTITUTES, which if combined makes a SUSTAINABLE PLAN fordefining solution to fight unemployment among youth. This is going tohappen by a series of trainings of management of schools anduniversities to change understand students needs and bring actionsfor helping their students find their potentials in field, learn aboutopportunities and get job.

LOCK & KEY MODEL”which says,

“There is high need of a platform to connect companies, industries, markets with universities and students, which will enable institutes find opportunities for there students, and will enable students explore their potentials, get connected with many people, join internships- which are first experience to enter in job. And the journey of betterment and upliftment will go on. Such platforms are lacking in our society and

that is the reason that both of the three compartments of the TRIANGLE consider themselves as different entities (though, they are), but the ;platform which LOCK & KEY MODEL presents will make

them go in a journey of collective progression. We really need to connect of three of them to reduce the rising number of unemployed youth in Pakistan. The Lock & Key Model presents a connected series of implementation phases of solution plan. First is connecting the educational institutes, companies and students together in a cooperative way right, this way our triangle will be completed. Next, when the students will have exposure of different opportunities for example, internships, the students will them

be able to explore their potentials by gaining practical knowledge, which may be include entrepreneurship qualities etc. “

O Why do we want to connect students, educational institutes and companies together?

O It is very important to understand the situation rampant in our society, where we live. Educationalinstitutes provide no or negligible information regarding student internship opportunities and otherchances of getting and learning about their fields because of many reasons including communicationgap and more importantly a very typical and old mind set of not understanding current student needs. And this is going to be healed with the proposed solution of Lock & Key Model, which will organize aseries of lectures/trainings/sessions for the management staff of the schools/universities to learn andfind there draw backs and help their students by collaborating and cooperating with differentcompanies, and allowing them to market and showcase their opportunities with students. This is easyfor institutes to get connected with companies directly then for students to reach out for them and findwork. Our target is not limited, the opportunities will give students a chance to explore their TALENTS& POTENTIALS- which will directly & indirectly help them achieve what they want to be! May be aftersome work, the students will much clarify their interest in work and some will find entrepreneurshipskills, and begin their own work creating jobs for others, while many other will start freelance work- ifthey have not liked full day work at companies. So it will be all about learning, exploration of potentialsof youth, employments, and of course a better understanding and collaboration chance for companies& educational institutes also for future ventures.

Results & Outcomes!

O The team will be spending 10 hours per week time on implementing the

solution.

O In the beginning the solution is going to reach Students of two universities in

Pakistan, (names already mentioned in the beginning of ppt), who are going

to be in range of +15000.

O We have designed the idea of “Ambassador of Lock & Key Pakistan”, which

will engage young people interested in spreading the message of “Lock & Key

Model for fighting Unemployment in Pakistan” in their schools and

universities. There will be a proper coordination of Lock & Key Team and the

Ambassadors so that the idea can be implemented in many other schools,

colleges and universities.

O For the project nearly 50 young people will be engaged with the team to

implement, check and monitor the idea being implemented in their

departments.

O There is going to be a massive change in mind sets of students who study at

government universities (a large proportion of Pakistan’s young people

population study at government schools and university).

O Unfortunately many students are not aware of basic design of making a CV

which brings a hurdle in way of getting job when such RAW CV is sent to HR

Department. The proposed solution is going to give indirect awareness to

students regarding making a CV by enrolling them in internships, enabling

them have hands-on Practical Knowledge of their field, social networking,

links and a lot more!
