Pascal’s LawIt was determined that a 400N input force could lift a 4000N weight on the other side (i.e. that with the greater area).

If the amount of input force does not increase, how can it lift a greater weight?

If anything, the fact that the force is spread over a larger area on the output side suggests the overall pressure exerted on that side would decrease.

Where does that extra force come from?

Water Flowing from a Pipe

Water flows from a pipe at the bottom of a water tank. It is accelerated from the tank by the force due to the hydrostatic pressure of the water in the tank.

HINT: The water flows from the tank at a speed v, which can be computed using the formula P = ½ρv2. The pipe sits 1.4 m above the ground and the bucket is 3.3 m’s from the tank.

Archimedes investigated the composition of a royal crown using its weight and the amount of water it displaced. Use the following values to find the DENSITY of the crown.
