the Tamil community). Its name is a combination of the name of the month, and the name of a star. The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a Vel "spear" so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. It is commonly believed that this festival marks Murugan's birthday.

of this temple are in the Vijayanagara style. The fresco paintings are particularly detailed in very bright dresses and colours with scenes of Rama and Krishna from the epic stories of the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the Puranas and they are well preserved.

8.• During Satyug, there was a beautiful woman named ‘Ahilya’,

she was married to sage Gautam. Lord Indra was very attracted to Ahilya, so when one day Gautam rishi went to take a bath, Lord Indra disguised as Gautam rishi and entered his house, Ahilya couldn’t recognise his true identity. When Indra was going out of the house, he came back into his original appearance and it was at this time that Gautam rishi saw him exiting his house. Seeing this, he was enraged with Ahilya and cursed her to become a stone statue. However when she narrated the whole story of how she was fooled by Lord Indra, Gautam rishi melted and said that though there was no immediate solution, Ahilya would be freed when Lord Rama will come and touch her feet in Tretayug. However Ahilya told him that it would be a very long wait for her then. Thus Gautam rishi used his immense powers to bring about a change that reduced Ahilya’s wait by about a million years.

• What was this change that is offered as a possible explanation for one of the biggest anomalies in hindu mythology?

14.• X is regarded as one of the most famous art

forms of India.  However there is a misconstrued notion that this art originated in India. X was never an Indian creation and has its roots in Persia. The Iranian craftsmen of Sasanied era invented this art and Mongols spread it to India and other countries. French tourist, Jean Chardin, who toured Iran during the Safavid rule, made a reference to an enamel work of Isfahan, which comprised a pattern of birds and animals on a floral background in light blue, green, yellow and red.
