What is a Chakra anyway?Defined in Sanskrit,Chakra means disc or

wheel, and refers to the energy centers in our bodies. Chakras areuniversal, although some culturesrefer to them more than others.Everybody has Chakras, the same aswe all have a physical anatomy thatincludes organs and blood. There areseven primary chakras as mentionedin this article, which are located fromthe top of the head, down the spine,to the base of the sacrum. They are an essential part of our energy anatomy that connects the energeticbody—including our mental, emotional, memory, and spiritualbodies—to the physical body. When we are working towardour mental and emotional well-being,we always include the balancing of the Chakra system. Each one resonates to various dense frequen-cies that are connected to the Earth,and to higher frequencies that res-onate with the heavens and realmsbeyond the physical. When ourChakras are open and spinning opti-mally, we experience our wholenessand personal connection to bothHeaven and Earth. We also havemore energy, feel more light andopen, and enjoy less stress and fewerdifficult emotions that can lead tophysical discomforts and disease. Crystals are gems and mineralscreated in the Earth’s crust bytremendous heat, pressure, water and time. They are made upof the same minerals and elements as is our own human chem-istry. They also resonate at unique, individual frequencies thatvary from dense to higher vibrations. This is one reason whyhealing crystals can be useful tools in working with our subtlebodies. They help to release blockages and open our energybodies, allowing one to feel more centered and balanced. Some may consider these to be “new age” concepts. Intruth, this is a revival of “age old” knowledge and wisdom.Crystals and other vibrational medicines have been used inmany cultures over millennia as healing conduits to facilitatethe Body, Mind and Spirit connection. Let’s review the Chakrasand some common crystals that can be used to resonate with

our energy centers. As mentioned before, there areseven main Chakras in everyliving being:

The first is the ROOTCHAKRA, commonly knownas our Grounding Chakra. It is located at the base of thesacrum or tailbone. It is associ-ated with the colors RED orBLACK and resonates at a relatively lower frequency inthat it is more concentrated inphysical matter. This Chakraconnects us to Mother Earth, to our physical body, and to our most natural, survival, and primal instincts. It’s our foundation where we can feelsupported and stand on ourown two feet.

Crystals for the FirstChakra include: Smokey Quartz,Black Tourmaline, Garnet andRuby. These stones can be usedfor protection to repel and diffuse negative energy, leavingus with a strong sense of self.

The second is often calledthe SEAT-OF-THE-SOULCHAKRA. It is our creativeand relationship center. It islocated just below the navel andis the center through whichmany emotions and creativeendeavors are expressed. Itrelates to the color ORANGE.

It represents our sexuality, and is where babies and other creative ideas manifest. Crystals for Second Chakra include: Tangerine Quartz,Orange Calcite and Carnelian. These stones empower and helpto open our creative energies and bring ease in how we relate to ourselves, and the world around us. The Third is our SOLAR-PLEXUS CHAKRA and is located above the navel. The color associated with it is YELLOW. Located in the center of our body, this Chakra holdsour personal power, our Soul Shine, so to speak. How brightlyare you willing to shine? power from within. They supportthe release of blocked emotional patterns and help to attract positiveattitudes and self-confidence, andenhance inner and outer radiance. The Fourth Chakra is ourHEART CENTER. The colorsare associated with GREEN andPINK. Many chakra maps show thisas green, but when using stones,pink is a common color to use forthe Heart as well. When our HeartChakra is open, we are moreinclined to be able to forgive, let goof old resentments and heartaches,and to learn to love ourselves andothers unconditionally. Heart-Chakra crystals include:Rose Quartz, Kunzite, Danburite,Malachite, Green and WatermelonTourmaline and Green Calcite. The Fifth is our THROATCHAKRA and is associated with thecolor BLUE. This energy center is aboutcommunication. Some may talk toomuch and need to learn to listen more.Others may be as quiet as a mouse andneed encouragement to speak up anduse their voice. Throat-Chakra crystals include:Kyanite, Chrysocolla, Sodalite, BlueCalcite, Celestite, Angelite andTurquoise. These stones help open communication and allow one to speak their truth from within. The Sixth Chakra is called theTHIRD EYE. It relates to the colorsINDIGO and PURPLE and is located in the center of the forehead and brow.This is our intuitive center, where we seeour lives through a more spiritual lens,and are open to guidance. With the acti-vation of this Chakra, we may rememberand interpret our dreams better andbecome more clairvoyant. Third-Eye crystals include:Amethyst, Fluorite, Sugalite, Charoiteand Auralite. The Seventh is known as theCROWN CHAKRA. It is associatedwith the colors WHITE, GOLD andINDIGO and the entire RAINBOW ofcolors. In the East, this Chakra is oftencalled the Thousand-Petaled Lotus. It isthrough this Chakra that we can open toour connection to God. This opening is

a beautiful flow into our wholeness andrecognition of our Oneness. This higher-frequency center connects us to ourhighest truths, and the etheric, angelicrealms. Crystals for the Seventh Chakrainclude: Clear Quartz, Optical Calcite,Azeztulite and Auralite. Simple yet powerful, these stones open and clearblocked energies while enhancing ourconnection to the Divine.

The first three Chakras help us connect to our physical world and

body as we draw the energy up from the Earth, through our feet and legs, and into our belly. The top threeChakras draw energy down from theHeavens, accessing our spiritual body,Divine Connection and UniversalConsciousness. The Heart Chakra is atthe center of all them. They all meet inthe middle at the Heart Center, whereour vibration is raised and we can livefrom a place of Unconditional Love. As you can see, there are manyhealing stones to choose from, and thereare many more not mentioned here.This information can only include abasic guideline. Remember, when work-ing with crystals, nothing is “set instone.” Choose your stones mindfullyand naturally. Let your heart lead theway, and let the stone speak to you. Finda comfortable place to rest, take a fewdeep breaths, bring your hands togetherand rub them briskly until you feel heatfrom the friction. Quiet your gaze,inhale, and hold the stone to your heart.As your sensitivity increases, you will

feel the energy of the stones that areright for you.

A healing crystal may resonate toyou in unique ways. Maybe you willfeel a tingling in your hands or anoth-er area in your body, or an image may appear. Maybe the stone will send you a message that you can hear.Oftentimes, it will be as simple as seeing a beautiful stone that makesyou feel happy and you just know it’s the one for you!

Crystals are wonderful tools foropening and amplifying our energybodies, for connecting us to ourHigher Selves and to each other, andfor enhancing our potential to experi-ence Heaven on Earth. They are a
