In this new season of 2018/ 19, the Hong Kong Dance Company presents an exciting programme drawn from a series of creative collaborations: produced in joint efforts with the Beijing Dance Academy, Beauty beyond Words: Ancient Chinese Dance Classics and Dream of the Past: Ancient Chinese Court Dances turn the clock back to recreate scenes of festivities and capers at the Imperial Palace from the Tang and Han dynasties. Inspired by The Legend of Purple Hairpin, an all-time favourite of Cantonese opera, Waiting Heart is a boundary-breaking presentation of the synergy among Cantonese Opera, inventive dance and modern sci-fi concepts of parallel universes. Our Folk Dance Drama in November is a visionary production with profound cultural depth by Ding Wei, National First Class Choreographer, exploring the Zhuang people's longing for freedom, happiness and true love. Teaming up with Xinjiang Arts University under the direction of local choreographers, in Ode to the Silk Road we fuse the rigours of classical techniques with exotic flavours of multiple ethnic groups from the Western Regions of China, marked by passionate rhythm and eye-catching costumes. On the other hand, our Children’s & Youth Troupes embraces a fresh challenge for their annual performance by taking on an original dance and music drama, Fun Ride with Big Beard – Dancing Poems, introducing classical Chinese literature to the younger generation through delightful storytelling. It is also encouraging to witness the progress we have made in our other initiatives, including 8/F Platform and its fringe programmes. We will carry on our mission to reinforce the Company’s role as a platform for nurturing young local dancers and facilitating professional artistic collaborations through international exchanges.
To put words into action, apart from committing to our main performances, we plan to step up our efforts in nurturing our future generation of dancers: to fill the gaps in professional training for young dancers in Hong Kong, the Children’s & Youth Troupes will provide more performance opportunities to young dancers aimed at bolstering their techniques and widening the breadth of their exposure. On the education front, we will continue our outreach initiatives to promote appreciation of arts among the new generation.
For 37 years leading to this new season of 2018/9, the Hong Kong Dance Company has been empowered by the unfailing dedication of our Board members, the Executive Director, the Artistic Director, our dancers and staff. We are devoted to leading the Company to new heights, staging more memorable performances and art initiatives for the enjoyment of the audience and supporters in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other parts of the world — your support and encouragement have always been our greatest motivation. We look forward to seeing you at the theatre and our activities for precious reunions and fruitful exchanges!

香港舞蹈團二零一八 /一九舞季用心打造一系列精彩的演出。我們將與北京舞蹈
學院攜手合作，載譽重演漢唐古典宮廷舞集《大美不言．踏歌行》及《踏歌行》，
讓精彩作品再現舞台；舞團兒少團年度演出全新原創音樂舞蹈劇《鬍鬚爺爺之
詩遊記》，把中國古典文學作品以輕鬆易明的手法傳承年輕一代；《紫玉成煙》
以粵劇經典為引子，走出粵劇界限，牽引出更多藝術想像，為觀眾帶來霍小玉
在三重時空交疊下的命運結局；十一月份的大型民族歌舞劇場由中國舞協副主
席、國家一級導演丁偉編導，講述美麗聰慧的壯族姑娘帶領族人追求美好愛情
和幸福生活，連場大型民族舞蹈唯美傳情，不容錯過；而《絲路如詩》則由舞
團聯合新疆藝術學院，在當地編舞家帶領下以傳統身段糅合高雅的舞姿，結合
澎拜音樂與奪目服飾，為觀眾呈現燦爛的民族風情 。此外，舞團「八樓平台」
系列及其小型藝術節的發展亦已見規模，舞團將繼續努力，把品牌發展為培育
本地年輕舞者和創造國際交流合作機會的專業藝術平台。
除了主要演出，舞團更計劃加強兒童及少年方面的舞蹈培育：舞團的兒少團將進一步培養年青舞者的廣度和
深度，並為他們提供更多實踐機會，為香港專業舞蹈訓練系統填補空白。此外，我們亦會繼續推進外展教育
工作，為香港未來培育具藝術欣賞能力的新一代觀眾群。
二零一八 / 一九年舞季迎來香港舞蹈團創團第三十七個年度，我和董事局全體成員將與舞團藝術總監和行政
總監攜手，帶領舞團全體員工，為香港以至內地和海外觀眾，製作精彩紛呈的節目演出和藝術活動。您的支

Mission StatementWe are nurtured in the cultural tradition of China, combining the creativity of contemporary art, to impress the world with Chinese dance of Hong Kong character.
“Dancing across East and West, Moving to the Tempo of Hong Kong”
Established in 1981 with the aim of promoting Chinese dance, the Hong Kong Dance Company was incorporated in 2001 as a charitable and non-profit-making institution, and is financially supported by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Since its inception, the Hong Kong Dance Company has staged over 100 productions, many of which were highly popular with critical acclaim. Recent productions include Tale of Three Cities , Lady White of West Lake , Vipassana , L ’Amour Immortel , Kaleidoscope of Dance from Yunnan , Chinese Hero : A Lone Exile , Reveries of the Red Chamber , Dream of the Past : Ancient Chinese Court Dances , Storm Clouds , The Butterfly Lovers , The Legend of Mulan , Pop Classics : Joseph Koo 's Dance Melodies 2013 , Spring Ritual‧Eulogy , Two Swallows – Ode to Wu Guanzhon , Snow Fox and Qingming Riverside .
The Company has toured internationally as well as around Mainland China as a way to encourage cultural exchange. The Company participated in “The Ninth China Art Festival” in Guangzhou and the World Expo in Shanghai in 2010, and took part in the opening ceremony of the East Asian Games in 2009. In 2008, the Company was invited to perform at “Meet in Beijing 2008” Arts Festival to celebrate the Beijing Olympics. In July 2017, the three-time Hong Kong Dance Award winner L’Amour Immortel was presented at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre in Beijing and Guangzhou Opera House. The Legend of Mulan was also presented at Southbank Centre in London in April the same year. The Butterfly Lovers was showcased at the Korea Dance Festival in April 2016. The Legend of Mulan was presented at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York in March 2015, and in Sydney in September 2015. Spring Ritual‧Eulogy was presented at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in September 2013, and the Novel Hall for Performing Arts in Taipei in December 2013 as part of Hong Kong Week 2013. In January 2013, the Hong Kong Dance Company presented Qingming Riverside at The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

香港舞蹈團於 1981年成立，致力推廣中國舞蹈，並於 2001年註冊成為慈善及非牟利機構，由香
港特別行政區政府資助。成立至今已排演超過一百齣深受觀眾歡迎和評論界讚賞的作品。近期作品
包括《三城誌》、《白蛇》、《觀自在》、《倩女 ‧幽魂》、《彩南雲現》、《中華英雄》、《紅樓．
夢三闋》、《踏歌行》、《風雲》、《梁祝 ‧ 傳說》、《花木蘭》、《金曲舞韻顧嘉煇》、《蘭亭 ‧
祭姪》、《雙燕－吳冠中名畫隨想》、《雪山飛狐》及《清明上河圖》等。
香港舞蹈團經常到海外及內地演出，以促進文化交流，曾涉足十多個國家及地區。近年獲邀 2010
年「第九屆中國藝術節」及「上海世博會」、2009年香港「東亞運動會開幕禮」、「相約北京 –
2008奧運文化活動」等作大型演出。2017年 7月，舞團赴北京天橋藝術中心和廣州大劇院演出榮
獲「2016香港舞蹈年獎」三項殊榮的《倩女 ‧ 幽魂》、4月赴英國倫敦演出《花木蘭》；2016年
4月於韓國首爾的「韓國舞蹈祭典」演出《梁祝 ‧ 傳說》；2015年 3月赴美國紐約林肯表演藝術中
心、9月赴澳洲悉尼演出《花木蘭》；2013年 9月赴北京國家大劇院以及 12月赴台北新舞台「香
港週 2013」演出《蘭亭 ‧ 祭姪》；2013年 1月，赴加拿大多倫多索尼演藝中心和美國華盛頓甘迺

Finding yourself in artWho am I? The anchor of my family; the apple in the eyes of my parents.A breadwinner working day in day out; a wanderer on the road.The dashing silhouette hopping from gala to another; Your fellow commuter who scrolls endlessly through his phone.
Between standing under the lime light and coping with desolation, which is more conducive to the conscious experience of reality? Between an amorous embrace with your beloved and lamenting the one who got away, which gives you a better grasp on your own values?
Inevitable contradictions in life reflect the duality within us all. As a mirror of our times, our society, our reality, Art is a lens allowing us into the hearts and minds of mankind.
In the journey of life, your day-to-day are the ingredients to the process - I never fail to marvel at every frame of scenery along the way of my life adventure. With the blessings of a new year, stay active in your search for yourself and the magic in life.

我是誰？
是妻兒的依靠；是父母的牽掛。是準時上下班的員工；是漂泊異鄉的行者。
是穿梭於派對宴會中的瀟灑身影；也是每天等車排隊時滑看手機的無聊狀態。
成為人群中的焦點，抑或面對散場後的冷清，更能覺知真實的存在？
與戀人相擁時的卿卿我我，還是在痛失至愛的失聲抽泣中，更能夠感受自我？
矛盾面貌並行不悖，只因人生從來不是單調的平面。
而藝術，便是一面面觀照他人、映照自己的鏡子。
如果生命是旅途，生活就是過程。我正在這趟旅途中，細味沿途每道風景。

Traditional artistry that transcends dynastic cyclesWith the benefits of half a century of legacies and finesse, the Chinese Classical Dance Department of Beijing Dance Academy finds creative muse in more than five thousand years of dance cultures and cultural wisdom from Imperial China. Marking their second collaboration with the Company, the piece showcases brush strokes of Dunhuang’s grandiose landscape in “Soar”, followed by illustrative sketches of the oriental landscapes in “Watercolour by Fans”, and “The Lone Crane in Ink”, an artistic expression of lofty ideals through depiction of earthly objects. The series then take a lively turn upon the heroic “Emperor Qin’s Military Parade”, which transitions into a festive gala of Chinese nobilities in “Duke Xie’s Shoes”, and rhythmic group dances in “Grand Chorus” and “Spring Excursion”.

Rediscovering the arts and cultures of Imperial ChinaFollowing its sold-out repertoire in 2016, the Classical Dance Department of Beijing Dance Academy joins hands with the Company to present its beloved Dream of the Past : Ancient Chinese Court Dances, which takes you back to the ancient world of emperors, concubines and warriors, citing archaeological references to their music, etiquette, costume and literature. Opening with ancient beauties enjoying themselves along the delta region, “Spring Excursion” is followed by “Small Victory Dance”, a dance choreographed by Emperor Xuanzong for his beloved Consort Yang Yuhuan. Epitomising the Chinese perception of beauty, “Chu-style Waist Dancing” explores dance styles predating the Qin dynasty before fast-forwarding to the Han dynasty by presenting four excerpts from the dance drama Dancing Girl of the Bronze Sparrow Pavilion.

FUN RIDE WITH BIG BEARD – DANCING POEMS
Come dance along and sing a song with Big Beard under the moonlight!Staring at the bright moon through the bedside window sill and peeking underneath their beds are a group of best friends – Uncle Rice and Mini Rice, Lil’ Red Packet, the Sewing Kit twins and Baby Goose... To their surprise, a giant calligraphy brush Big Beard descended from above, inviting them to join in on a time travel to Tang and Song Dyansties to visit Li Bai, Du Fu and all the greatest minds in Chinese poetry!

命運當前 不由自己？
自唐代小說，到明代戲曲，再由香港劇作家唐滌生改編成粵劇經典《紫釵記》。歷演不衰
的，不只是任白唐締結的恩怨緣債，更彷佛是今日明日世情的聯奏：「開簾風動竹，疑是
故人來。」
2018年為唐滌生誕辰 101年，標誌著新的開始：就由香港舞蹈團聯合桃花源粵劇工作舍，
跨越粵劇界限，牽引更多藝術想像。結局迥異的霍小玉同臺並立：認命尋短？自求多福？
還是據理力爭？「同是過路同造個夢。」凝視多重宇宙的分身，陷入命定與自決的迷思。

滾滾黃沙之上、蒼茫雲海之間，是如畫的絲路風情，也是如詩的舞影翩翩。香港舞蹈團
聯合新疆藝術學院，在當地編舞家帶領下，成就本地罕見的大型新疆舞作。結集維吾爾
族、蒙古族、烏孜別克族、柯爾克孜族、哈薩克族、塔吉克族、達斡爾族及龜茲樂舞的
三山兩盆文化菁華，配合手鼓音樂與考究服飾，以傳統身段揉合高雅舞姿，將少數民族
的情懷與氛圍呈現觀眾眼前。塞外舞者的氣韻神態，此刻台上綻現——毋須親臨其境，絲
路風情已在眼前。

Unmasking the silky veil of the ancient Western RegionsWith bi l lowing yel low sand beneath your feet and spectacular sea of clouds overhead, you glimpse into the picturesque horizon of the Silk Road and are intrigued by the enigmatic f igures. Feeling the beat of the tambourine, they break into traditional dances representing the unique treasures and pride of their ethnicities. Joining force with Xinjiang Arts University, the Hong Kong Dance Company weave in silky threads of inspiration from the Western Regions’ ethnic minorities - Uyghur, Mongolian, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Tajik, Daur and ancient Kucha. The diversity in these rich cultures is marked by their distinctive costumes and exotic rhythm to their music. In the comfort of their seat, the audience is guaranteed a magic carpet ride for a breathtaking journey to the West.

來到第十二個年頭，「八樓平台」邀得多位本地和海外藝術家合作。其中來自台灣的長弓舞蹈劇場四兄弟將首
度赴港，於八樓雙週第二週同台演出《Bon 4 Bon》。由以色列編舞家Eyal Dadon編創，作品講述家庭、親密關係、
信任、歸宿與記憶。演出過程中提出許多問題：我們與一起長大的那些人有多親密？我們如何被定義？是教育？
或是孩提時的習慣？作品也關係到我們在社會上作為個體的身份，以及我們如何以不同方式詮釋一切所見所聞？
舞者的動作表露了內在的音樂、色彩，伴隨著激盪人心的肢體語彙，闡述舞者生命裡的個人記憶。
關於長弓舞蹈劇場
長弓舞蹈劇場成立於 2011年，由舞蹈之家張氏四兄弟所組成，團長張堅貴、藝術總監張堅志、駐團藝術家張堅豪與
團員張鶴千，皆畢業於國立臺北藝術大學舞蹈學系。舞團目標希望結合兄弟手足同心與跨領域合作夥伴之力，共同
運用累積多年的舞蹈經驗與創作能力，實踐創意與熱情成就精緻的舞蹈藝術，將藝術推廣至世界上各角落。

關於八樓平台
Celebrating 12 years of creativity, 8/F Platform has invited Chang Dance Theatre to take to its stage their award-winning performance Bon 4 Bon . Choreographed by Israeli artist Eyal Dadon, the piece reflects on the value of family, long-term relationships, trust, home and memories. It shines light on our identity – as individuals – and our interpretation of the the world around us. The ways we perceive, listen and comprehend. The dancers draw from their personal experiences, livening up the stage with their personal flair and vivid colours of their memories. Chang Dance Theatre is among a stellar lineup of artists to perform during the second week of 8/F Platform.
About Chang Dance Theatre
Founded in 2011 by Chien-Chih (Artistic Director) and his brothers Chien-Hao, Chien-Kuei (Troupe Leader) and Ho-Chien Chang, Chang Dance Theatre comprises the surname of the four brothers who all graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts. The company produces multidimensional works by constantly pushing the boundaries of performance art and interdisciplinary collaboration. It explores new dance movements and cultivates artists through theatrical creativity and innovation.
Founded by the Hong Kong Dance Company, “8/F Platform” is a dance laboratory that embraces choreography, performance, education, demonstration, multi-disciplinary collaboration, with the objectives to enhance ar t ist ic col laborat ions and audience development in Hong Kong. By bringing together a u d i e n c e s , d a n c e r s a n d a r t i s t s , 8 / F P l a t f o r m encourages exchange and interaction, and serves as a catalyst for creativity. Since its inception, “8/F Platform” has produced notable original works with artists from different backgrounds, showcasing new possibilities and dynamics for the development of dance in contemporary society. It is a platform for experimenting with and realising different dance visions. Such unique concept won 8/F Platform the 2006 Hong Kong Dance Awards, reaff irming the creative ambitions of our dancers and artists.

Hong Kong Dance Company is taking the critically acclaimed dance drama L’Amour Immortel back to the international stage in December. Following its success in Beijing and Guangzhou, the Company will give an exclusive performance of the production in Taiwan. The production — and its outreach activities — are part of Hong Kong Dance Company’s mission to promote cross-cultural activities, open dialogue and sharing experiences.

走出課室 放眼世界藝術
Since their establishment in 2006 and 2008, the Children’s and Youth Troupes have been avid advocates for Chinese dance with a Hong Kong flair. With 300 members aged 6-18, the Troupes offer professional dance training for children and young people inspired by the Company’s unique education model – “Training, Performance, Appreciation”. Our dance instructors are highly qualified professionals who are dedicated to education, to pushing the boundaries for students’ personal development, and to passing on a legacy to the next generation. We provide a creative incubator for youngsters to immerse themselves in dance and to have fun.
The Troupes have created many popular children’s productions. In addition to opening the HKDC stage for youngsters, the Troupes have co-organised cultural exchange performances in China, Malaysia and elsewhere.
兒童團及少年團分別於 2006 年及 2008 年創辦，旨在推廣中國舞在香港的普及，為下一代提供全面的專業舞
蹈與藝術培育，至今學員約三百人，年齡由 6 至 18 歲。本團積極發展創新獨有的教與學模式—— 「學、演、
賞」，讓兒童和青少年獲得高質素的舞蹈培訓，同時注重個人內在的藝術修養。本團導師全屬資深專業舞蹈
人士，致力從事舞蹈教育工作，使中國文化藝術得以傳承。展望將來，香港舞蹈團將繼續為兒童及青少年帶
來一個快樂、自由及富創意的舞蹈藝術空間。
創辦至今，本團先後編創了多個廣受歡迎的兒童舞劇，包括《金裝龍鳳茶樓》、《星期六的秘密》、《十二
生肖大冒險の冰雪奇熊》、《龍鳳茶樓》、《快樂皇子》、《族風兒趣》、《東方絲路》、《我愛地球村》、《童
話天地》、《鏡中的天空》及《同一個願望》。團員除了參與大型兒童舞劇外，還有機會參與舞團的大型舞
台演出包括《倩女．幽魂》、《風雲》、《花木蘭》、《塵埃落定》及《清明上河圖》等。除重視舞台實踐外，
每年亦會積極開展對外的藝術文化交流活動，更先後踏足北京、青島、上海、深圳、台灣、番禺、廣州及沙

OUTREACH ANDEDUCATION
Connecting with people through Chinese dance is a founding mission of the Hong Kong Dance Company. The Outreach and Education department has been actively pursuing this goal by reaching out to schools and local communities with educational programmes for over 30 years.
A major part of our work is to organise events such as dance demonstrations, school performances, exhibitions and workshops to engage students and local communities. We also invite students to participate in the Hong Kong Dance Company’s main productions, so that they can gain life-enhancing experience performing on stage. We offer dance courses for all ages, including Evening Dance Courses and the Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Graded Examination Courses, as well as running collaborations with local organisations to spread the joy of dancing.
香港舞蹈團一向重視推廣和普及中國舞蹈。旗下舞團外展及教育部致力舉辦不同類型的活動，以宣揚中國舞
蹈及其文化；並建立學生、團體及各界人士與香港舞蹈團之間的連繫及長遠伙伴關係。
外展及教育部除了前往各學校及社區作示範、演出、工作坊、圖片及服裝展覽等活動外，更不時邀請各大、中、
小學生參與舞蹈團的演出，讓他們汲取舞台實踐經驗，以表演藝術豐富生活。除此之外，舞蹈團更開辦為不
