Descripción / Description La Fundición Chagres se encuentra ubicada en la Región de Valparaíso, en la comuna de Catemu, a 100 km al norte de Santiago y a 400 msnm. Su proceso productivo (fusión de concentrados de cobre) se realiza mediante el moderno horno flash, una tecnología que destaca por sus bajas emisiones y que hace de esta fundición la líder en materia medio ambiental en Chile. En 2010 produjo 137.934 toneladas de cobre ánodico y 466.729 toneladas de ácido sulfúrico.

Chagres smelter of Anglo American is located in Valparaíso Region in the municipality of Catemu, 100 kilometers north of Santiago and at 400 masl. The smelter’s productive process (copper concentrate fusion) is carried out using the modern Flash furnace; a technology known for its low emission levels, making the smelter an environmental leader in Chile’s mining industry. In 2010 the Division produced 137.934 tonnes of copper anodes and 466.729 tonnes of sulfuric acid.
