Rumour has it that some Club members are looking for some extra hanging space… I’m looking forward to hearing from Mark Bella from Rotary Box Hill Central on toilets and sanitation projects in India, as this week’s guest speaker. Initial Team allocations will be out in the next few days so watch your inboxes. I’ll say from the outset that if you are in a spot you really don’t like then please give me a call. As a Board we’ve spent some time to get the right mix in teams to balance a bunch of factors including member’s preference, providing opportunities to utilise and share experience as well as gaining new experience and making sure that the composition of our Service and Enabling Teams reflect the make-up and demographic of our Club. Just on the demographic and make-up of the Club, I was doing some membership stats during the week for our upcoming AG & DG visits. I talked at Changeover about “the ageing of Rotary” and that the average Aussie is 38 years old, yet the 35-49 year old box I had to tick in the form I was filling out was the least represented bracket. And I was genuinely surprised by the next stat: 24 to 21 members “actively employed” vs retired, (and yes I agree that those terms and numbers are rubbery). So what do those numbers mean? You might say they reflect an ageing club which is a threat in terms of the Club’s membership over the medium term, but I also see it as opportunity, in theory we have about half the members of the Club able to do service, to make a difference, not just on the weekends, but during business hours too….just a thought.
