internationally recognized expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Fellow

Master’s DegreesMaster of Organizational Leadership (MOL ) — Page 7Integrate a Christian perspective into the context of leadership. Prepare to lead

effectively by gaining skills and knowledge to incorporate leadership into a

variety of organizational settings.

Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) — Page 8 Increase biblical knowledge and bring a Christian worldview to your

profession. The MATS is a good choice for those interested in lay leadership or

anticipating further study and/or service in professional ministry.

Master of Divinity (M.Div.) — Page 9Combine theology and Christian ministry with a concentration in either Bible

exposition or biblical studies. Through this comprehensive degree program, you’ll

be prepared for pastoral and chaplaincy positions or further theological study.

Master of Arts in Human Services (MAHS) — Page 10Apply your Christian faith to prepare for or continue work in private or public

social services settings. Learn how to provide non-therapeutic assistance to

people in need or pursue further graduate study in human services or social

sciences programs.

If you live in or near the Twin Cities

and enjoy dynamic discussion,

strong peer support and stretching

others, the one-night-a-week,

on-site courses may work best for

you. You’ll learn in person from

expert professors and work on

collaborative projects with students

from your cohort.

ONLINE

Online courses may be taken from

anywhere in the world. Our online

programs provide the opportunity to

take courses without disrupting your

career or other scheduled activities.

As an online learner you’ll be part

of a cohort and interact with each

other and professors through course

sites, e-mail and other electronic

means. Time management and

organizational skills you use in your

everyday life will contribute to your

success in this program.

The Master of Organizational Leadership (MOL) offers a dynamic course

of study that explores a variety of leadership venues including businesses,

churches, nonprofit organizations and government. At Northwestern you’ll

find a learning environment where your life experience and perspectives are

valued. You’ll be challenged to grow spiritually and intellectually as you learn

from your professors and colleagues in your cohort.

Northwestern faculty members bring expertise in leadership from a variety of

perspectives and venues such as business, ministry and education. Through

their teaching and mentorship, you’ll be able to integrate your studies with

your professional work to realize immediate benefits and position yourself for

advancement.

As both an academic and professional degree, the Master of Arts in

Theological Studies (MATS) provides biblical and theological training to equip

you for effective ministry in the church, workplace, parachurch organizations

or academic settings.

After the foundational core courses, you will select one of these areas of

concentrated study:

BIBLE EXPOSITION

The Bible exposition concentration is for individuals who desire to study the

Word of God at a deeper level, presenting an expository study of the Bible from

Genesis to Revelation.

BIBLICAL STUDIES

The biblical studies concentration is designed for students who plan to use the

biblical languages (Hebrew and Greek) in their ministries.

THEOLOGY

The theology concentration includes study of systematic theology, apologetics

and ethics. If you’re considering further study toward your M.Div. or at the

doctorate level, the theology concentration provides an excellent foundation.

credits and you can earn your degree in approximately 18–22 months.

The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) is a comprehensive, pre-doctoral degree

that combines theology and Christian ministry with a selected concentration

in either Bible exposition or biblical studies. The program builds upon

Northwestern’s history and commitment to biblically based, evangelical

theology.

The M.Div. serves as excellent preparation for pastoral or chaplaincy positions,

as well as pursuit of advanced degrees.

Course of StudyThe Master of Divinity curriculum is integrated with Northwestern’s Master of

Arts in Theological Studies (MATS), described on page 8. The M.Div. program

includes the MATS core curriculum and theology concentration (36 credits),

plus a chosen concentration in either Bible exposition or biblical studies (20

credits) and a series of ministerial courses (20 credits). The M.Div. is granted

upon completion of 76 credits, and you can earn your degree in approximately

44–48 months. Students who elect to do so may obtain both the MATS and

M.Div. degrees for the complete course of study.

The Master of Arts in Human Services (MAHS) is an applied non-licensure

degree program designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills

necessary for assessing and meeting the needs of people. You will learn to look

at individual and systemic needs and solutions. The MAHS will also help you

prepare for further graduate study in human or social sciences programs.

You will develop an understanding of how to assist people experiencing

complex, problematic situations, how faith and human services intersect,

how research can facilitate understanding people and their needs, and how

to design and evaluate human services programs. The program offers one

concentration in family studies.

Course of StudyThe Master of Arts in Human Services is granted upon completion of 36

credits and you can earn your degree in approximately 18–22 months.

The MAHS degree may be

providing non-therapeutic

assistance to people in need. It is

appropriate for people who may

apply psychological insights in their

work activities or settings, such as

pastors, human resource directors,

teachers, coaches, nurses, public

health workers, law enforcement

officers, managers, or student

affairs personnel.

Graduate Certificates

LeadershipThe Graduate Certificate in Leadership, offered on site or online, is granted

for completing five core courses of the Master of Organizational Leadership

(see page 7). This certificate provides a significant step toward leadership

development for business or ministry.

You can complete certificate coursework in approximately seven months

and course credit will fully transfer toward later completion of the MOL at

Northwestern College.

Christian StudiesThe Graduate Certificate in Christian Studies is granted for completing five

core courses of the Master of Arts in Theological Studies and serves as

an introduction to graduate-level education. You’ll expand your skills and

knowledge in core theological subjects and gain skills and knowledge to equip

you for ministry. The certificate can be completed in approximately eight

months and course credit will fully transfer toward completion of the MATS or

M.Div. at Northwestern College.
