Please read them closely so that you will be familiar with the meaning of the terms used in the sale.OPEN - This is a virgin heifer that has never been exposed to any bull by an meansor in the case of a cow, she has not been exposed to a bull by any means since thebirth of her last calf.BRED - Female has been served by a bull or artificially inseminated to a bull but does not mean this female is safe in calf to that service.PASTURE EXPOSED or PASTURE BRED - Female has been running in the pasture with the bull and has been exposed to the bull for a period of time as stated but does not necessarily mean that this female is safe in calf.SAFE IN CALF - Female has been palpated and diagnosed pregnant at the date of examination by a licensed veterinarian as per the accompany-ing signed veterinarian certificate.FERTILITY TESTED - Bulls’ semen has been tested by a licensed veterinarian or a recognized AI breeding center and is considered a satisfactory breeder as per the accompanying signed veterinarian certificate.HEALTH PAPERS - Proper health papers furnished on all animals in the sale resulting from TB and Bangs test.A. DOUBLE BLACK - This notation is made in the catalog to indicate animals with both parents black in color. These animals have NOT been DNA-tested. Animals with both parents black that have been tested and found to be red carriers are not listed as double black, but simply as “black.”HOMOZYGOUS POLLED - Individual has been DNA-tested to genetically “PP” or proven by parentage to be homozygous thus not carry-ing the “p” horned gene.LIM-FLEX - Denotes he Limousin-Angus hybrid that may vary in com-position from 25-75% Limousin and 25-75% Angus or Red Angus with a maximum allowance of other breed or unknown genetics for 12.5%.EPD - Expected Progeny Difference - A user friendly way of summarizing performance information for quick reference.%RANK - Percentile breakdown that allows for quick reference when comparing individuals to current sires of the most recent calf crop recorded with NALF.

MMIG TRU-POLLED TESTMMI Genomics, Inc. of Davis, California, has recently offered their DNA test for the polled trait. Every animal has two copies of each gene. One copy of each is inherited frot eh sire, the other from the dam. Polled is dominant gene, meaning animals with one or two copies of the polled gene will be phenotypically polled. Animals having two copies (Homozygous) for the polled gene with produce only phenotypically polled offspring.Tru-Polled results are reported in one of the following categories . . .• Homozygous Polled = Two (2) copies of the polled gene.• Heterozygous Polled = One (1) copy of the polled gene.• Horned = Zero (0) copies of the polled gen• Inconclusive = Test cannot determine if the animal has copies of the polled gene.Some homozygous polled cattle are results of both sire and dam being homozygous, thus they are marked homozygous polled (ped). The seller warrants that test samples have been accurately drawn and sub-mitted and that all published results are accurately reported.
