Like its sister city Bern, Fribourg has preserved its medieval center as a whole that is now one of the largest in Europe. It is located on a spectacular peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the Saane/Sarine river. The architecture of the Old City dates primarily from the Gothic period before 16th century. Nowadays, Fribourg and surrounding developed area has a population of 94,867 inhabitants with Fribourg itself having 34,084. About 29% of the inhabitants are foreigners.

The School of Business Administration
The School of Business Administration Fribourg (SBA) was founded in 1991. It is a public school and part of the network of the University of applied sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO), as the schools of Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel and Sion. A total of more than 16'000 students attend courses in all areas of specialisation. The HEG of Fribourg, specialised in the domain of management, offers all types of recognised courses, such as Bachelor and Master of Science in Business Administration with a major in Entrepreneurship. It also offers an EMBA in Integrated Management, as well as various other types of postgraduate courses in environmental studies, public management, and communication. The school works closely with businesses because practical aspects lie at the core of its teaching. It is this feature that distinguishes the SBA from traditional universities. Finance is central to all courses. SBA also carry out research projects in this domain, as well as mandates for businesses, banks, and insurance companies. In addition to specialised and recognised competences in finance and entrepreneurial matters, the SBA stands out for its multilingualism (French, German, English) and multiculturalism. More than half of the Bachelor graduates find executive positions in the domain of finance, such as banks, insurance companies, trusts, multinationals, and SMEs. The school enjoys a wide-reaching network of cooperation with universities around the world.
