Introduction to the Principal at PCTMy name is Craig Mackellar and I am the Principal of Paragon Corporate Training. PCT is a Registered Training Organisation that provides security, investigations and risk management training throughout Western Australia. PCT has been an RTO for over 10 years now and is one of WA’s leading providers of security, investigations and risk management training.

I have a BA (Vocational Education and Training) and an Associate Degree in Training and Development from Curtin University. I was in the WA Police Service for about 15 years and during that time instructed at the WA Police Academy in legal theory, patrol and investigations, rules of evidence, taking statements and interviews, operational planning and leading teams. I was responsible for the training and development of police recruits and serving police officers. I left in 1995 and started up Paragon Corporate Training which has now grown to a well established RTO (Registered Training Organisation.) PCT now provides over six nationally accredited qualifications from Cert II to Cert IV in areas such as security, risk management and investigations. PCT also provide stand alone first aid, White Card and RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) courses.

Course materials:Student guides, assessment tasks and in some cases reading articles have been provided for each unit. The study guides are available in print form (hard-copy) and on CD-rom.Assessment:

1. DAY COURSES 10 TO 14 DAY COURSE (total suggested minimum hours 80) depending on RPL and

credit transfer outcomes. This course covers the security officer units only for licensing. You can attend Monday to Friday day-time from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm at our premises at 58 Newcastle Street, Perth. For more information on our day courses contact the office. The face-to-face hours you have to complete are a condition imposed by the WA Police Service and it is non-negotiable with the exception of RPL or Credit Transfer. You may wish to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer against some of the units for this course so contact us to discuss this.

2. A COMBINATION OF FLEXIBLE AND OPEN LEARNING AND ATTENDING THEFACE-TO-FACE PRACTICAL ROLE PLAY TRAINING

This option is helpful for distance learners who may not be able to attend Perth metropolitan area for a day or evening course. Some units can be done through flexible and open learning and some units would have to be done face-to-face as they require demonstration of skill sets that cannot be assessed through any other means than demonstration and observation.

3. INSTRUCTOR LED TRAINING (MENTOR)Learning with a mentor is a highly flexible approach to learning whereby the participant can continue their studies after they have attended a course – should they need more time to complete their work – at their own pace. An instructor (mentor) is present for one-on-one consultations throughout the learning day and gives a more hands-on experience to the learner as opposed to working on your own. It allows you to clarify issues immediately with your mentor.

4. ENROLMENT INTERVIEWAlthough Paragon’s flexible and open learning program allows you the freedom to tackle the qualification with an element of flexibility, you will be required to attend an initial interview *(where possible) so you can be provided with your training resources such as a file with student manuals, CD and CD/Video which contain all of your security units that you need to complete for your qualification.

Don’t forget, contact me if you wish to discuss any aspect of your training.

Best of luck.
