What Causes it?
• Injuries or abnormalties of the brain• Parts of the brain are injured due to lower
levels of oxygen• Also known as hypoxia
How Does It Occur?
• As the baby grows in the womb• The disease can be diagnosed within the first
two years of the child's life• Conditions bleeding in the brain• Head Injury• Infections of the mother during pregnancy.
Who Gets Cerebral Palsy?• Mostly infants are diagnosed• Infants who experience systemic or neurological illness
have greater risk of developing the disease• If the baby experinces seizures within the first 48 hours
of life.
Signs and Symptons
• Can be servere or mild• Can occur on one or both sides of body• Mostly occurs in arms or legs• Muscles tighten, do not stretch• Joints are tight• Hearing or vision• Decreased intelligence or learing disabilities• Speech Problems• Seizures• Irregular breathing
How is it Dectected?
• Blood tests• GT scan of the head• EEG• Hearing scan• MRI of the head• Vision testing
Pathophysiology
• This disease can either be acute or chronic• Once you are born with cerebral palsy there is
no way to get rid of it.• You can not catch the disease from others• The muscles all throughout your body can be
affected by the disease• Also joints and the brain
Treatment
• Go to a primary care doctor• Occupational, physical, or speech therapy• Different medications
