History
Original idea to improve access to Landsat Global Mosaic data (1975, 1990, 2000) and to SRTM global 90m-resolution digital elevation data (DEM)
Sometimes referred to as CLASP CEOS Landsat and SRTM Project
Plan to go beyond access to rgb data: use OGC WCS for access to the Landsat and SRTM data
Renamed To EO Data Portal Task Team to broaded scope and make idea more attractive to CEOS Plenary

The CLASP Concept CEOS WGISS assist the UN and FAO in promoting
the exploitation of the Landsat and SRTM data by: Coordinating the deployment of data mirror sites hosted by
various Space Agencies around the world. Working with standards bodies (e.g. the OGC) to accelerate the
development of relevant standards and software (particularly OGC WCS).
Encouraging the development of standards-based software tools and associated web-based services.
Phased development over two years, starting with simple map display capability, leading eventually to chained services that can be tailored for specific applications.
Subsequent long-term service sustained by the Space Agencies concerned.
11 CEOS Agencies already shown an interest in being involved. Eodp mailing list set up.
Improved access to SRTM is a GEO 2-yr objective

Related parallel activities
“Onearth” activity at JPL have made entire 2000 rgb mosaic available via OGC WMS
http://onearth.jpl.nasa.gov/ Different band combinations also available
FAO deploying OGC compliant servers
EoGeo.org created “Landsat Interest Group” and are working with the Internet Archive who may be prepared to host entire dataset.
Liping Di (GMU) planning to host Landsat and SRTM data and make it available through both OGC and GRID interfaces

Current Status BNSC funding ICEDS Project ICEDS year 1 completed
To explore the use of OGC Servers, WCS in particular Developed demonstration client Created Guidelines Document
ICEDS year2 Further software development
– Client: 3-D viewing, blinking etc Use-case development
Begun Landsat data transfer from UNEP(USGS) Landsat 2000 dataset - 3Tbyte. Shipped 500Gbyte disc to USA and back – not very successful Data to be made available on tape
SRTM available through Internet download Related developments (GMU/LAITS; Worldwind)
CEOS WGISS & Subgroup Meeting Cordoba, March, 2005.11
Future Plans
Continue with software development Continue with data distribution Interested Agencies to develop their own Portal
JAXA to add links to Digital Earth viewer
Work with parallel activities to establish coherent development plan.
Provide demonstration to CEOS Plenary 19 ?
