CEO Monica Bohn hosted the August 30th event as employees and guests turned out to support the Senator. Local TV news stations, radio and newspapers covered the Senator’s visit. Former Representative from Kentucky’s 3rd District Anne Northrup also attended and spoke. She shared her professional experiences with the Senator while in office. “Mitch is a leader who sees a different path, a path of opportunity and growth and energy in the United States that’s not only countrywide, but in this state. He’s provided opportunities for our children and grandchildren,” said Northrup. She went on to introduce Sen. McConnell’s wife, Former Secretary of U.S. Labor, Elaine Chao.

Sec. Chao greeted and thanked the crowd of mostly women. She talked about her husband’s fight for what’s best for all people. “Aren’t we proud that he has been the leader that says Obamacare will not

work.” Chao told the audience her husband’s record in office is as strong as his record in his personal life. “Mitch fights to ensure that all Kentuckians and every single American regardless of gender or race, have the opportunities to build better lives for themselves and their families,” said Sec. Chao.

The Senator was welcomed to the podium by loud applause and cheers. “I am humbled by the support in this room,” said Sen. McConnell. He went on to share the stories of strong women in his life including his mother and wife.

Sen. McConnell and his wife thanked supporters and shook the hands of those in the room on the way out. The August event followed a May 31st McConnell fundraiser hosted by Century. That event raised more than $50,000 for the campaign.

The kitchen area displays the best selection for every cooking and entertaining need. Century is experienced with laying out everything from an award winning kitchen to a wet bar, basement party room or outdoor kitchen. The battle to stay ahead in the ever-changing mortgage industry lands Century in Boston. Monica Bohn, Jeff Ratanapool, Bryan

Wiegandt, Jeff Kibbey and Marla Guillaume represented Century Mortgage and Century Lending at the annual Lenders One Conference.

“It’s important for us to attend because it keeps us at the forefront of knowledge and regulatory changes that affect lenders our size,” said Century Mortgage Vice President Bryan Wiegandt.

This is Wiegandt’s third year attending the conference. This year it was 4 days, August 3rd

– 7th. He said it connects Century to industry experts that fight the same battles with government

regulations. “It also gives us a look at the big picture. We talk to lenders across the nation that face many of the same day to day issues that we do,” Wiegandt said.

It wasn’t all work and no play for the Century team. They enjoyed some of Boston’s best attractions. Wiegandt stopped by his “favorite place in the world”, Fenway Park. They cheered on the Sox and enjoyed other historical places including the Union Oyster House, the oldest restaurant in the country.

Business First's Fast 50 names 18 companies that were not on the list last year including Century Mortgage. To make the list, the companies had to have an almost 30 percent revenue growth during the last two years, be based in Louisville, have an average of at least $1-million in revenue

for the three most recent years and a three-year operating sales history. Business First reports many companies applied for the list, but the stellar revenue growth of this year's Fast 50 sets them apart from the rest. Exactly where Century falls on the list will be revealed on Tuesday, October 22nd during the Fast 50 luncheon at the Kentucky International Convention Center.

The year 2012 will be remembered for many history-making events. Some serious, others odd and even exciting,

but most will remember it for the World NOT ending, President Barack Obama being re-elected, Facebook debuting on the stock market, Gangnam Style as the most watched clip in the history of the internet, the 2012 Summer Games in London, Felix Baumgartner jumping to Earth, Super Storm Sandy hitting the North East and most importantly CENTURY MORTGAGE helping more people locally than ever before! CMC President Jeff Ratanapool says the company closed 90% of the loans it originated in 2012; the national average is around 60%.

“It [2012] was a monumental year. One of the most rewarding, yet challenging in my 15 years in the business,” said Ratanapool. He also described 2012 as a big year for regulation implementation, but at the same time an even bigger year for loan origination. “With rates at 50 year lows, and the housing market recovery in full swing, the biggest challenge was how to accommodate every customer. We had to make sure they were protected, they received the best service and value the market had to offer,” Ratanapool described.

Century Mortgage Company Celebrates 2012

CENTURION 27

Page 30: Centurion - October 2013

2012 was also a year to learn from. Ratanapool said he discovered the market will reveal your weakness as a team, organization and management team. When stretched to the limit, a company or manager will see how well they have placed their systems and processes. “2012 taught me to stay with the basics, stick to your principles, train your people and keep your cool. Every problem has a solution. The management team and decisions have to be flexible to adapt. If you make the wrong decision, you have to be able to change it quickly to correct that mistake,” said Ratanapool. He also noted training being paramount to success.

That success was celebrated as employees from around the region gathered to celebrate that success on August 23 at the Louisville Wildwood Country Club during the Century Mortgage Company Awards and Recognition Program. The Marketing Department created a slide show with pictures from the beginning of the company to present day.

Everyone enjoyed buffet style food that proved to be very tasty. Century Mortgage President Jeff Ratanapool was the host for the evening. He jumped right into the events by first thanking different groups of people including some vice presidents, the marketing and legal teams among others. It was an all ladies show for the first award, Excellence in Service.

The second Award singled out Lori Hall as Processor of the Year. She works at the Elizabethtown branch. Lexington took home the award for Top Producing Branch of 2012. Century Mortgage Vice President Bryan Wiegandt presented the branch awards. Other awards included the Diamond Club, Gold Club, 15, 10 and 5 Years of Service, Top Producers, Rookie of the Year, Loan Officer of the Year, The Matt Bohn Award and Granite Award. Award winners are listed and pictured on the following pages.

Century Mortgage joins an elite list of Louisville businesses including GE Appliances and Humana nominated for

Business of the Year. During the 9th annual gala dinner in December, the Eagle Award of Excellence will go to winners chosen from among finalists in various categories. The awards honor private companies based on size, company leaders, newly formed businesses and nonprofit organizations.

After receiving the nomination, Century had to submit an entry to Business First with answers to various questions such as, “What makes your business stand out from your competition?”. The answers had to be at least 150 words long and include examples. Some other requirements included proof of earnings and community service projects.

Last year, nearly 400 people attended the Business First annual Business of the Year Awards. Among the companies that were considered for previous awards are CafePress Inc., Kindred Healthcare Inc., GE Appliances, Donan Engineering Co., The Learning House and Wild Eggs.

This year’s winners will be announced in December and published in Business First.
