In this month’s Train Better Memo Series, we are pleased to announce an upcoming Fire Officer Training Program and a new course for EMS and fire personnel alike. And, as a reminder, CentreLearn will be offering a hands-on Train Better Administrator Workshopon March 6th at the EMS Today 2013 Conference in Washington, D.C. FIRE OFFICER TRAINING PROGRAM Distance Learning Course for New or Aspiring Fire Officers Department chiefs and training officers have repeatedly told us they are seeking training programs to prepare their firefighters to become effective fire officers. We are excited to offer a Fire Officer Training Program taught by Mike Ward BS, MGA, MIFireE. The 7-part online course will begin on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 and will include presentations, discussions, and assignments. Because of the importance of this course content, we are inviting each of our client fire departments to enroll one firefighter at no cost. Additional firefighters from CentreLearn organizations can enroll at a substantial discount. More details and scheduling information can be found on the CentreLearn blog . NEW COURSE OFFERING Hazard Communication and Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals EMS and Fire personnel have a “right-to-know” about the hazards and identities of chemicals they are exposed to in the workplace. When personnel have this information, they can participate in their employers’ protective programs and take steps to protect themselves from hazardous chemicals. This course reviews the hazard communication standard, safety data sheet requirements, purpose of labels, and protective measures. The CentreLearn Hazard Communication course includes training information on the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of classification and labeling of chemicals. Learn more about the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and training requirements for the GHS, safety data sheets, and pictograms for chemical labeling. The CentreLearn Hazard Communication course was prepared to help CentreLearn clients meet this training requirement, "Information and training: Employers are required to train workers by December 1, 2013 on the new labels elements and safety data sheets format to facilitate recognition and understanding."
