COUNTRY OF THE MONTH-

ITALY

We were lucky enough to have Natalie,

Emiliana mum donate an ice cream maker to the

centre. The children

along with the

educators were

excited to make a

wonderful batch of

very yummy lemon

sorbet which

originated from Italy.

The children loved

tasking the fresh

flavours made with

natural ingredients.

We thank Natalie foe

her donation and with

the warmer months

approaching we can't

wait to make a variety of fresh homemade ice

creams.

Celebrating

Italy must

include

Pizza. and

every room

delighted in

this culinary

experience.

The children

loved practising their chef's skills as they

created their own pizzas using a selection of

toppings including tomatoes, pineapple,

capsicum, cheese and mushrooms and chives

from our garden.

Healthy and delicious. For the Month of

October we will be celebrating and sharing

ideas about England. We invite families to share

stories, craft ideas and songs about England as

SEPTEMBER EVACUATION -

DRILLS FOR SAFETY.

Does your child know what to do at

your home?

Supporting

children's safety

requires children

to understand and

take part in

scheduled

emergency evacuation drills. Each month

educators and children take part in emergency

evacuation procedures to ensure that children

can exit the building in a safe manner where

their names are called and educators speak with

children in respect to procedures that will keep

them safe. We remind families that it is

important to speak with their children at home

so that they are

aware of exit

points in their

own homes in

case of an

emergency. (NQA1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7)

DRUM SHOW 13th September

Helen presented a

dynamic drum

show to the

delights of all

children. First she

did a short private

show for the Baby

Bunyips, they all

got to play their

own drums as we

sang along with

some familiar nursery rhymes, she then moved

on to presenting a show to the Possums and

Bee’s. Helen showed the children how to sit on

the drum ‘like a pony’ as the used their hands to

play along with her and showed us a new dance

called the ‘mumbo jumbo’.

The children had lots of fun, laughing and

giggling to the tunes as they beat their drums in

unison.

TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY 19th

September

Celebrating Miss Justine's Birthday and Talk

like a Pirate Day meant that the

children had a fantastic day as

they ate ice cream, made pirate

hats and enjoyed a treasure

hunt in the sand pit courtesy of

Miss Gabi. Our Pirates enjoyed

finding their gold treasures and

pretending to be pirates as they sailed around

the world on their

own pirate ships shouting "Ahoy".

ROOM STIMULUS AREAS:

BUSY BEES:

1) Insects

2) Gardening

3) Time

4) Halloween

During the month of September, the Busy Bees

have been looking at our natural environment-

looking at how we can help caring for the

Gardens and plants. The Busy Bees will have

Gardening as a focus in October to help extend

on this interest.

During the month of October the children will

be exploring the different types of insects-

looking at their features and what makes them

an insect rather than a bug. The children will

take a close look at the stick insect seeing how

it changes in appearance.

SCHOOL READINESS FOCUS

LITERACY FOCUS. THE SOUNDS THAT

OUR LETTERS MAKE PHONICS:

Over the course of September, the children have

continued to develop their numeracy and

literacy skills throughout a series of group

activities. It is clear to see that the children have

a solid understanding of colour, number and

sounds. We are continuing to develop the

children’s

understanding of

addition and

subtraction and

have looked at

writing these out in

the correct format

with the correct

notation.

Coming to the end of the year we are focusing

highly on the school leavers self help skills.

Kindergarten holds high expectations for

children.

This is a good time to practise basic skills that

will help your child next year.

Your child should be able to • Recognise when they are hot and cold

being able to take their jacket on and off

by themselves.

• say their first name when asked

• answer simple commends

• Independently begin to form the letters

of their first name.

We encourage parents to take time with their

child in the home environment to develop these

skills.

Throughout the month of October we will be

focusing on the following concepts during the

school readiness program.

R, O , G

R as in Rabbit

O as In Octopus

G as in Goat

The Busy Bee’s will be looking at numbers 29

(twenty nine) to 31 (thirty one) during the month

of October to develop their number recognition

and counting skills.

Pre-Lit

Throughout September, children’s phonological

skills were supported through identifying

syllables and sounds in words. We focused on

letter recognition and formation in addition to

simple sentence writing.

During the Month of October we will be looking

at Duck in the Truck, The very itchy Bear, Annie

to the Rescue, Green eggs and Ham. We will be

looking at syllables and the different sounds that

make up a word.

Reading to your children builds foundations in

various areas. Make sure you read to your child

each day asking them questions about the story

having them be a part of the story.

BUSY BEES

NEWS

We have updated

the news list.

Please remember

that the news

basket and list is

located at the front of the Busy Bee room. Please

remember that news is a time for your children

to practise talking in front of their peers showing

an object close to them. Do NOT let your child

bring a toy on a day that is not their news day.

All items are to be placed in the news basket and

kept there. (NQA1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7)

ELLA PROGRAM

Children in

the Busy

Bees room

have been

participating

in the ELLA program to support the

development of language. Children have been

involved in learning Chinese through an on line

computer based program.

Children are allocated set times after lunch and

are supported by teachers as they explore

Chinese language. The Busy Bees are certainly

enjoying tis experience and building their

cultural awareness and appreciation of diversity

within their community.

Throughout the month of September the Playful

Possums enjoyed creating different types of

shakers and they then used these to learn all

about tempo and volume during lots of fun

music experiences. The children used paper

plates, plastic egg shells and bottles and filled

them with all different types of materials to

create different sounds. This was a lot of fun!

enjoy learning

all about

in dramatic play experiences using the projector

to pretend they are in outer space. They will also

use books, short videos and take part in many

arts, craft, drawing and writing experiences to

learn all about space.

Halloween will

Literacy:

Pp as in Pig

Jj as in Jug

Numeracy:

Concept:

First and last names

BABY BUNYIPS:

1-2: Space

3-4: Halloween

5: Shapes

Throughout The month of September we had a

strong focus on positive social interactions

between the children. We provided many

different dramatic play experiences that

promoted social interactions with educator

involvement to encourage positive interactions.

The picnic

set and the

babies

were the

most

popular

dramatic

play

experiences. All of the children got involved

and showed a very caring side towards their

babies as they wrapped them in blankets, rocked

them to sleep and fed them their bottles. The

picnic set provided the opportunity for the

children to interact with one another, sharing

different foods and developing their language

skills as we named some healthy foods.

During the month of

October we will be focusing on space and

Halloween. We will do this through plenty of art

and craft experiences which are always a hit in

the Bunyips room. (NQA1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7)

Page 6: CENTRE INFORMATION: COUNTRY OF THE MONTH- ITALY HALLOWEEN … · 2019. 2. 11. · HALLOWEEN DISCO FRIDAY 26th 6:45 - 8:00 pm Tickets $5 Games, Music, Piñatas, slime eating competitions

We will also include the use of technology as we

watch short videos of space before re-creating it

through crafts. We will also focus on shapes

through simple activities such as construction

activities and puzzles to get the children familiar

with different shapes. The Yarning bag will be

going home with Grace and Aarish.

FUNDAMEMTAL MOVEMENTS

Throughout the month of September, we

focused on the fundamental movement skill of

Stationary dribbling. The children learnt the

different components of stationary dribbling

such as bounce and catch the object or ball

before developing the complete skill. The

children developed this skill through different

activities such as bounce soft ball and catch the

ball in pair.

During the month of October, we will focus on

the fundamental movement skill of dribbling.

The children will first learn the basic

components of the skill before developing the

complete skill. Children will be demonstrated

by the educator to use their foot eye

coordination to dribble ball between their legs

and will be encourage participating in different

activities such as soccer, and hitting the ball to

the target. (NQA 1,2,3,4, 5, 6, &7)

FINAL THOUGHT

Children have to be educated, but they also have to be left to

educate themselves. Supporting children to ask

questions and to use discovery to find their own solutions makes

them the very best learners.
