Centre for Health Promotion and Centre for Addiction and Mental Health were Co-Chairs of the Coordinating Commit- tee presenting this one day international symposium on mental health promotion on June 10, 2007 in Vancouver. This fol- lowed another international symposium on mental health promotion held in July 2005. 3. In January 2006, Suzanne Jackson, CHP, and Andrea Stevens-Lavigne (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) devel- oped and taught a five-day course on mental health promotion to Chilean health professionals as part of a Public Health Summer School put on by the Universidad de Chile in Santiago. This follows summer school courses given by CHP in 2005 and 2006 in Chile on health promotion planning and evaluation, aboriginal healing and wellness strategy, and media advocacy. 4. In July 2003, a two-week health promotion summer school was held at the Centre for Health Promotion for a group of 11 Croatian physicians from the National and Regional Institutes of Public Health. Following this successful summer school, a two-day training workshop on health promotion for 70 people from various Institutes of Public Health in Croatia was held in November 2003. Those conducting the training were the participants from the July 2003 summer school and they adapted modules developed in the summer for their course material. 5. Dr. Shumei Wang was Associate Professor at the School of Public Health, Fudan University and spent five weeks in Canada in 2006 as a visiting scholar learning more about healthy cities and children/adolescent health issues. 7. High school youth presenting a show they developed about health issues at the wrap-up conference of a Canadian So- ciety for International Health (CSIH) Youth for Health Project in Ukraine that received six years of CIDA funding from 1995- 2005. The Centre for Health Promotion provided consultation in different phases of the project. 8. Youth and Health Project in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, 2006-2009. This Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) project developed youth friendly primary health services for vulnerable youth in both countries with CIDA funding. 9. Arab-Israeli, Jewish and Palestinian youth came together to share the results of their photography and video action proj- ects on their local communities as part of the Global Youth Voices Middle East Forum held in May 2006 in Tel Aviv. She sat on the Sci- entific and Technical Advisory Committee set up by PAHO to plan the Health Promotion Forum in the Americas in San- tiago, Chile, October 20–24, 2002. Ligia de Salazar, CEDETES, Universidad de Valle, Cali, Colombia and Suzanne Jackson, co-leads on developing “Eco- nomic Evaluation Guide in Health Promotion” with Alan Shiell, Health Economist at the University of Calgary (2002-2007). 13. The Centre for Health Promotion prepared the first draft of the “Evaluation Recommendations for Policy Makers in the Americas” based on the work of a PAHO committee, 2001-2004. 14. The Centre for Health Promotion developed the English version of the Participatory Evaluation Resource Manual with PAHO and colleagues in Trinidad and Tobago for Healthy Municipalities and Communities (2000-2007). Since April 2000, the Centre has been the Canadian base for the North American Regional Office (NARO) of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). IUHPE is an association of individuals and organizations concerned with the improvement of health through education, community action, and healthy public policy with official links to WHO, UNICEF and UNESCO. The role of the Canadian IUHPE office is to promote, within Canada, broader North American participation in the IUHPE. Fran Perkins is the NARO Co-Director and sits on the IUHPE Board of Directors and NARO Regional Board. Suzanne Jackson is a Canadian trustee for NARO and sits on the NARO Board. 2.
