Part I: Introduction to Teaching & Supporting Learning
This is a one day foundation course designed for postgraduates new to teaching or considering taking on a teaching role.
Some Schools expect all their teaching assistants to attend this course if they are going to be tutoring, demonstrating or running tutorials for the first time.

Part II: Teaching & Supporting Learning
This is a short, structured credit-bearing module aimed at postgraduate teaching assistants that want to further develop their teaching practice and understanding of student learning.
Sessions are held throughout the term and participants are expected to create a portfolio of evidence of their teaching practices.

Module Learning OutcomesOn successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Design, deliver and evaluate a small or large group session to enable student learning e.g. a tutorial, demonstration, field trip, seminar or lecture;
• Engage with and reflect on various sources of evidence and scholarship to evaluate and improve their teaching practice;
• Demonstrate critical reflection on personal teaching practice within their disciplinary contexts;
• Complete a personal teaching portfolio which may assist them in future teaching and employment opportunities;
• Devise appropriate strategies for further professional development of their teaching practice.

M.Ed Learning and Teaching in Higher Education
This strand of the Masters in Education is designed for academics teaching in higher education in order to develop a critical understanding of the theory and practice of pedagogy and the scholarship of learning and teaching in higher education. Students will be involved in practice focused workshops and seminars that address both critical and theoretical studies of pedagogy and practice in higher education.Components Include:
• Traditions, contexts and pedagogy• Designing curriculum, assessing and supervising in higher education• Reflecting on practice in learning and teaching • Linking teaching and research within and beyond the disciplines
The course has a taught component and a dissertation. The duration will be
three years part-time, with an exit point at the end of the second year leading to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma.
