Commanding Officer Central Station

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday. It was a fun few days starting on Wednes-day as Central Station Officers participated in a few

events, building partnerships with the Community.

We enjoyed our visit to the Chinese Education Center last Thursday having been invited by the school’s principal, Mr. Tam. This is an annual event to showcase what a great job he and his staff do to educate children who have recently arrived from China. Officers Troy Courtney, Ryan Jones and I were in

attendance.

On Wednesday, Officers David On, Michael Amoroso and I attended an event at the Willie Woo Woo playground sponsored by the Community Youth Center. Executive Director Sarah Wan invited us to meet and greet with approximately 200 youth who had the day off from school, a day before Thanksgiving. I was the emcee for the raffle give

away. It was a lot of fun!

Speaking of Officers David On and Michael Amoro-so, I am grateful for their effort in scheduling 60 offic-ers who volunteered on Thanksgiving to deliver meals for Self Help for the Elderly. We partnered with the San Francisco Fire and Sheriff’s Department. Chief Chaplin and the SFPD Command Staff carved turkeys. A lot of us brought our families with us as a way to show the importance of giving back to the community. Some of us also visited the Salvation Army that day

and assisted in passing out meals.

An Academy class graduates tomorrow night. We welcome Officers Matthew Divina, Krystel Fortie, Devan Green, Nicholas Andora and Manuel Mejia to Central Station for

field training.

Crimes of Opportunity

As we celebrate the holidays this month, let us be mindful of the crimes of opportunity. These are circumstances where a door is left open, a valuable is left behind or some situation where if we spent a few minutes thinking of ways to prevent from becoming a victim, we would be successful. The one property crime which comes to mind is package thefts. We will

start to see an increase. Some things to keep in mind

1)Do not have a package delivered to your doorstep.

2)Find a location where the package can be delivered. e.g. a neighbor who is home or a

location where someone can receive the package.

Congratulations to Officer Edmund Huang!

Officer Huang was the recipient of this year’s Officer of the Year sponsored by the Nob Hill Association. Each year, the Nob Hill Association honors a police officer and one firefighter. This year Officer Huang was selected because of the great work he performs as a plainclothes officer. As you may of noticed, each week when I speak of great arrests, his name is mentioned in The Nob Hill Association provided Officer Huang with a check which he turned around and donated to very worthy causes. I am grateful for the work he and his

entire plainclothes team does on a daily basis to keep our community safe.

Polar Plunge

On Saturday, Central Station Officers Ofc Johnson, Ofc Macaulay, Ofc Harris, Ofc Frugoli and Ofc Holbrook and I will be participating in the annual Polar Plunge Event to support the Law Enforcement Special Olympics. We will be running the 5k event and later there will be a Cable Car Pull competition and last, with the Chief and Command Staff, we will be jumping into the bay at Aquatic Park. My daughter will be singing the National Anthem. It is great fun

every year. The water is super cold!

Great Police Work!

Andrania Yancy is in custody thanks to outstanding police work by Officers Heredia and Colby. Adriana Yancy has been identified in two thefts from locker burglaries in the Central. We believe she has been involved in many more. Yancy’s routine is to go to a gym or yoga studio and gain access to the locker room area. There, she will break into one or more lockers stealing all items of value, She will then head directly to the Westfield Mall area and make numerous transactions with the stolen credit cards. In one incident she managed to rack up nearly $15,000 in charges. She typically buys store value cards (gift cards). Yancy also commits identity theft with the IDs she steals. Yancy also has used victims identification to purchase day passes at a Planet Fitness. Sergeant Vanderbilt did a great job putting

several cases together which let to Yancy’s arrest.
