FMCA International Convention returns to Redmond, Oregon in 2014 !!

Yes, the FMCA International Convention will be held in Redmond, OR at the Deschutes County

Fair and Expo Center August 13 – 16, 2014! This will bring approximately 2,500 coaches of our

FMCA friends to our back yard for fun and merriment. Travel to the venue should not be a

problem for any of our members….mark your calendar now!!

Gillette, WY was the venue as we celebrated the first 50 years of FMCA and looked forward to

the next 50 years. Each FMCA Chapter has a National Director, who casts ballots on behalf of

their Chapter. 327 Chapters were represented in Gillette as we conducted FMCA Business and

elected new National Officers. Elected were:

National President: Charles Adcock

National Sr. Vice President: Jon Walker

National Secretary: Vicky Ferrari

National Treasurer: Percy Bell

Of interest, two individuals were hired on a temporary basis to make outbound calls to members

who have let their membership lapse. Over 1,000 members have renewed due to these calls and

valuable information as to why individuals drop FMCA membership is being forwarded to

appropriate staff and working committees.

The new FMCA computer system is in the final stages of implementation. Over 1 million

member files have been converted to the new system which will integrate all FMCA functions,

saving both time and money while providing better customer service to members.

FMCA’s budget for 2012 – 2013 looks like it will finish in the black and the 2013 – 2014 budget

projects a year-end surplus and builds upon this success in these troubled financial times. FMCA

does not owe anything to anybody and has a new portfolio management company for assets.

Note: FMCA is a roughly 7 million dollar business, with around 2 million in wages to staff ,

supporting roughly 80,000 members.

It is a pleasure to serve as your National Director. I attend NW Area Planning Meetings and

International Conventions on behalf of the Chapter. I would be more than happy to address and

share information regarding any questions you may have of FMCA or the NW Area.

Did you know there is another RV Club with “Rim Rock” in their name?

The Rim Rock Rec’s are a Good Sam Chapter that is based in Central Oregon and has 14 members. They

rally April through October, usually on the third weekend of the month. They have campers, trailers,

“C’s” and a few “A’s” in their group. You need to be a Good Sam member to join, but could attend as a

guest if not. If you are interested in contacting or spending time with them, contact Rod or LaDonna

RV Hints:

If you want to clean your black tank…..buy a bag of cubed ice, dump it in the “hole” before you

head for home. When you get home….empty your tank. The ice cubes bang around on the

inside of the tank during travel, knocking some stuff off the walls of the tank. Can’t hurt the rig!

In areas of severe weather (Midwest in the summer), put your slide outs and awnings in if it

appears there might be a storm approaching. (Listen to weather forecasts). Failure to do so

could result in damage to slide toppers, awnings, fins on heat pumps and radiators, etc. from

hail and wind. (I should know…..Just had $ 2,000 of hail damage done in less than 15 minutes in

Gillette, WY)

Fabric wheel covers to protect your tire sidewalls from the sun and UV rays are a good idea. It

will help prevent sidewall cracking and premature tire replacement.

Bugs on your windshield ???? Happens to everyone!! Trick from Chuck Martin…..Fine steel

wool and a bit of water and those bugs are a goner. It does not scratch the glass, inexpensive

and cleans fairly quickly. Works better than anything I have tried so far!

If someone is helping you back into a site in the campground, stop and introduce yourself first,

identify what hand signals will be used and indicate to the person where you would prefer

them to stand while signaling. (Does not apply to wives helping…you should have already

worked that one out !!!)
