Chairman’s Report 2020/21 was certainly another challenging year. Firstly we had the COVID Pandemic which saw us back in September when we were going to be able to play cricket or if we would even be able to play cricket at all but eventually we started albeit a month later. We were eventually able to get both senior and junior competitions successfully underway only for with the finish line in sight the rain came preventing all bar the 1st & 2nd Grade and both Male and Female Youth League Grand Finals or in the case of the juniors semi finals and seniors preliminary finals as well being played. Once the season commenced all senior and junior competitions were closely contested and most importantly played in the right spirit. Congratulations to Jeff Hemming and The Entrance on claiming the first grade premiership, played at the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreational Complex (CCRSRC) for the first time. Congratulations also to The Entrance on winning the Senior Club Championship award and Kincumber Avoca on claiming the Junior Club Championship award. During the course of the year there were a number of highlight:

• The continued growth of female cricket on the coast. We had 15 female teams playing across 2

divisions for the first time in senior cricket whilst the Female Youth League had 5 teams and the

Girls Sixers had 8 teams competing;

• Introduction of an Over 40 Masters Competition with 6 teams competing in the inaugural

competition.

• The T20 competition being played on Thursday evenings with most matches being played at

CCRSRC.

• Hosting the NSW Country Championships at CCRSRC

• Open Representative Team defeating Newcastle for the first time only for a poor hour of cricket

the day before resulting in a loss to Central Northern preventing them from progressing through

to the Championship Final, which ironically was won by Newcastle.

• Fielding 14 Representative teams across senior and juniors, both male and female. In addition to

this two further teams represented the Central Coast at Junior Carnivals in January.

• A significant number of players from the Central Coast again reaching state honours once again

showing Central Coast is a hub for talented cricketers.

• Our Umpires David Grainger and John Davidson officiating a both Cricket NSW and Country

Cricket NSW Representative Carnivals as well as Sydney Grade matches

• Central Coast Veterans hosting the O50’s State Carnival involving 32 teams across 3 days. The

week was capped off with Central Coast winning the Division One title for the first time

• The Livestreaming of all our major events both on and off the field. These can be viewed through

the Central Coast Cricket Association You Tube Channel.

• Induction of four new members to the CCCA Hall of Fame

It was mentioned earlier of major events being held at the CCRSRC. This complex at Tuggerah is a major boost for cricket on the Central Coast and one we have all been calling out for many years. . We now need to work with council to ensure that cricket can get regular access to the facility both for major events and local content.

The CCRSRC wasn’t the only big facility news with the announcement of the re-development of Carrington St Oval into a turf wicket complex. We look forward to this coming on-line for the 2022/23 season. We would like to thank council for there ongoing support in relation to facilities on the Coast especially given the difficult time they have endured. Many robust conversations have taken place during the year but they are happy to try and facilitate our requests, where possible. We are extremely proud of our Female Pathway which now can now offer females the opportunity to go from Entry Level to First Class cricket without having to play in a male/mixed competition. Not many other associations in Australia could lay claim to this. Already this pathway has changed the demographics of our women’s competition as player migrate from our junior programs. We will not sit on our laurels however and we will continue to drive female participation not only at a playing level but also coaching and administration. In this regard congratulations to Veronica Brown on obtaining her Representative Level (formerly Level 2) Coaching accreditation recently. Our financial situation is extremely sound as can be seen from the financial reports and the Executive continues to work hard to reduce costs to the clubs to ensure that cricket is a game affordable to all who wish to play. We will continue to work with the clubs to ensure that cricket is affordable and that we remain in a strong financial position. A big thank you to our sponsors, Diggers@ The Entrance, Everything Sports, Kookaburra, Sportscoast Trophies and Embroidery, Star104.5FM, Team Leard Sportswear, Cricket NSW and Central Coast Leagues Club for their ongoing support during these tough times. It is certainly very much appreciated. Thanks to all the media outlets for their ongoing support and promotion during the year and to Scott Burkinshaw for his role as Media Manager. Players and supporters could not claim not to know what was happening in Central Coast Cricket during the year. I big thank you to Paul Deaves, whom I took over as Chairman this year. Paul did a wonderful job in the role and with the support of fellow Executive Members navigated the CCCA from troubled waters to the strong position we now find ourselves in. Paul will not be lost to CCCA and can be found at his beloved Sohier Park or curating the wickets at Tuggerah. Cricket NSW again provide great support during the year and we are lucky enough to have David Winiata as our Cricket Manager. David goes over and above the requirements of his role to ensure that Central Coast Cricket continues to thrive. Thanks David. This year Cricket NSW decided not to continue to provide the role of Conference Administrator forcing the CCCA to fill the Administrators role. Jack Wilson was appointed to this role and despite his relative inexperience completed this role with plenty of enthusiasm and diligence, It is often a thankless task with the hours certainly far greater than the pay packet, but this didn’t phase Jack and we thank him for that. To the CCCA Executive and those people who filled the numerous CCCA Committees I thank you for your ongoing support and commitment. These people are often the faceless men and women who are subject to plenty of speculation and social media scrutiny but I can assure you they operate with the utmost integrity and for the betterment of Central Coast Cricket. Central Coast Cricket would not be in the position it is without them, Thank you all. Finally to all the players, officials, volunteers, sponsors and members of all our clubs and affiliates who give so much of their time for little recognition and whom without your commitment cricket on the Central Coast would not be possible. Finally enjoy the off-season as the new season will roll around quicker than you no it. Hope to see you all again next year.

Garry Burkinshaw Chairman Central Coast Cricket

CCCA Administrator Report This season has been like no other we have seen before, COVID-19, rain and flooding it has had it all. It makes the role of the Administrator an even interesting one after the year we have had. An enjoyable experience though none the less. Firstly, I would like to congratulate all those Championship winning teams across all the grades – I know for a lot of you it wouldn’t be the way you would have wanted to win but congratulations are still in order. Congratulations are also in order to the Entrance for winning the 1st Grade Competition, Narara-Wyoming for winning the One Day Championships and to Warnervale for winning the T20 championship. It shows that our 1st Grade competition is getting even stronger with 3 different winners across the 3 differing competitions. To the Women well done to Wyong for taking out both Women’s A and B grade competition. Again, we continue to see our girls numbers increase year on year with the introduction of the second grade for the first time this year. Congratulations are also in order again to The Entrance for taking out the Club Championship at a Senior level and Kincumber-Avoca at the junior level. The season began all the way back in July of 2020 with serving Chairman Paul Deaves and Stuart Owen standing down from the Board and not-seeking re-election. Gary Kavanagh was returned to the Board as well as previous Administrator Garry Burkinshaw as well as myself. They joined the existing Board Members Trevor Allison, Robert Archer, Glenn Rowlands and Marion Williams. As Paul had stood down – Garry Burkinshaw was elected the new Chairman of the Board. It has been very easy working with the Board and despite criticism they do really have the best interest of cricket in mind. The Administrator position took on a new look this year as it was not continued by the CCCA Executive and Cricket NSW. My firm belief remains that this position must be continued to be looked at as we need to ensure that we attract and retain quality candidates into the future. The main role of the Executive this year was ensuring that we could get a season going as well as making sure that costs for clubs would not significantly increase due to COVID. The Board introduced new playing conditions to ensure that we remained COVID-Safe, as well as this all associated fees that we put in place did not increase. One of the biggest components of this year in which many had been excited about was the introduction of the Central Coast Regional Regional Sporting & Recreational Complex (CCRSRC) at Tuggerah. This year we played components of the T20 competition, our turf based finals as well as the Northern Pool of the Country Championships. The CCCA Executive has entered into a new MOU agreement with the Council on this which will see the Association play more cricket at the venue. Due to Councils ongoing financial position there has been difficulties in getting some of the basics done this year – we do continue to hold quite a positive relationship with the Council and we hope to that services do start to return to a better standard. I’d also like to thank all the clubs for the season for the most part it is very easy to deal with all of you, it’s a role that I enjoy doing and I hope that we can continue to work together in a positive manner. Thankfully, this year we were able to hold our end of season presentation evenings for both Senior and Juniors. With big turnouts on both of the nights these were truly wonderful evenings enjoyed by the clubs. I’d like to thank individuals and sponsors for their assistance in making sure these nights were so successful including David Winiata, Garry Burkinshaw, Merillie and David Redden, Stephen Forward (Audio Technician), Central Coast Leagues, Diggers @ The Entrance, STAR 104.5, SportsCoast Embroidery, Central Coast Newspapers, ABC Radio and Cricket NSW. I also wish to

9

thank those special guests who attended both evenings including Greg West, Lauren Smith, Justin Avendano and Rick McCosker. Id also like to thank the Committees I have worked with this year for their timely decision making and clear clarification on the rules especially the Competition Committee and the Representative Committee. Gary Kavanagh thank you for the assistance you have given me in dealing with Council in difficult circumstances. As well as this I’d like to thank Bill Colbran and the Umpires Association for ensuring that timely correspondence and appointments were sent every week without issue. There is one individual who I must make special comment to though – David Winiata. Thank you very much for your assistance and support during the year. It is a pleasure to work alongside you and I hope that this can continue into the future. The amount of work you do for the association that is outside your Cricket NSW responsibilities never ceases to amaze me. I’d also again like to thank the work of our major sponsors this year including the likes of Diggers @ The Entrance, TeamLeard Sportswear, Everything Sports, SportsCoast Embroidery, STAR 104.5, Cricket NSW and Kookaburra. Again in closing I would like to thank all those who have assisted me in this role, to Garry and Gary, the CCCA Executive, David, the players and supporters. But most importantly I’d like to thank the clubs as if it wasn’t for you we all wouldn’t be hear. The amount of work you guys put into your clubs is a testament to yourselves. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2021/22. Jack Wilson Administrator

Zone Administrator Report The Central Coast had another active season with the Zone represented at all eligible Country Cricket/ Cricket NSW competitions. The Central Coast hosted the Northern Pool of the Opens Men’s Country Championship for the second consecutive year, with the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Centre (CCRSRC), Tuggerah being utilised for the first time. Despite the oppressive weather conditions the facility was lauded by both players and officials and we look forward to the venue hosting further carnivals in the future. The COVID pandemic threatened both the Colts and Bradman Cup Carnivals however in the end both carnivals were able to proceed at the same time in Tamworth in January albeit they were reduced to three days and even then the carnivals were plagued by wet weather. Unfortunately, the Central Coast were unable to play in the NSW Country Female Under 16’s and Under 19’s Country Championships after being deemed to be too great a risk due to the Pandemic even though these carnivals were scheduled the week following the Colts and Bradman Cup carnivals. To offset not being able to play at the Championships, Cricket NSW scheduled two T20 matches against a NSW Metropolitan side at Blacktown and whilst appreciative of the efforts to give the girls a game certainly did not make up for missing out on playing at the Country Championships. The Kookaburra Cup was not played this year and it must be some doubt as to whether this competition will return. The season commenced with both the male and female Regional Bash sides taking the road to Scone to take on Lake Mac Attack in the men’s and Northern Inland in the female competition. Entering the competition without having played a competition put both teams on the back foot and

Central Coast Cricket Association Inc. ABN 61015119391 Annual Report 2020/21

10

despite their best efforts went down narrowly in both games which saw them knocked out of the competitions. Once again it should be noted that the female side was made up entirely of players who play in the local CCCA competition and we were the only side in the competition who could lay claim to this. For women’s cricket to continue to grow and flourish the eligibility criteria for the Women’s Regional Bash needs to be reviewed. Central Coast’s run of winning at least one carnival came to an end this year although there were a number of excellent performances including the open side defeating Newcastle for the first time at a Country Championships. Full credit must go to the coaches, support staff, parents and most importantly the players for the commitment to representative cricket. The success from the carnivals continued with higher selection for many of our Central Coast players. Congratulations to all those that were picked to go onto play in the NSW Country sides. Country Cricket via Cricket NSW once again provided significant financial assistance to cover the expenses for their championships and we would like to thank them for this assistance. Also a thank you to Bruce Whitehouse (Cricket NSW Country Programs Manager) and Country Cricket Committee of Management for their support throughout the year.

Central Coast continue to set the bar high in representative cricket and we look forward to further success in 2021/22. Garry Burkinshaw Zone Administrator

In addition to the above Country Cricket NSW paid the Zone Administrator and Honorarium of $9,500.00. The Honorariums increased in 2020/21 due to Cricket NSW deciding not to continue with the role of Conference Administrator. The CCCA appointed a part time Administrator, Mr Jack Wilson with other tasks formerly completed by the Conference Administrator, namely Media, Competition and Finance were outsourced with Honorariums. Payment of the Honorariums were covered by a $20 per player fee was the case last year with the Conference Administrator. The Representative Coach and Manager Honorariums were met from Country Cricket NSW Grants. Affiliation Fees for both Senior and Junior teams remained unchanged from last year at $750/team (exc gst) and $50/team (exc gst) respectively. The Affiliation Fee for Women’s Teams was again reduced to $535/team (inc GST) following the CCCA obtaining a Grant from the Australian Sports Foundation. A Grant from World T20 Legacy Fund of $10,000 was received for the purpose of developing and growing female cricket in the region. The funds were disbursed as follows: Reduce Affiliation Fees – Women’s & Girls $ 4.500.00 Pay Women’s Insurance Fee $ 1,650.00 Girls Affiliation Fees $ 715.00 Pay U13 Girls Representative Fees $ 975.00 Pay U13 Girls Representative Comp Fees $ 936.72 Provide U13 & U15 Girls Representative Attire $ 615.45 Senior Women’s Representative Cricket Balls $ 121.77 $ 9,214.00 There is still unused grant fees of $11,271.84 and the CCCA Executive have formed a committee to formulate a plan for the best use of these funds. Further funds of $11,737.14 (two years payments) were received as part of the agreement with Central Coast Council following the sale of Cricket Memorabilia from the Museum whilst $2,500 was received to assist with recovery following COVID pandemic. Grants were also received for the re-development of Carrington St Oval and Gavenlock Oval. Approval amount was $80,000 with $77,000 received so far. Additional Grants are being sought to finalise this project. From the proceeds $13,730.00 was used to install a new synthetic wicket at Gavenlock Oval. Grants for Cricket NSW via NSW Country is quite significant and funds our Representative programs. We are very appreciative of their continued support. Sponsorship income was reduced from last season which was expected due to the pandemic however we were very grateful that Diggers @ The Entrance, continued as major sponsors, whilst Everything Sports, Sportscoast Trophies and Embroidery and Star104.5FM continued their sponsorship and Team Leard Sportswear also became a sponsor. Kookaburra continued to provide a cricket ball rebate of $4,524.00 due to the CCCA purchasing cricket balls on behalf of the clubs. We appreciate the support of our partners which enables us to invest in programs to improve the CCCA. All clubs paid their invoices within the approved repayment term. I would like to thank all the clubs for their diligence in ensuring all accounts were paid on time. At the end of the financial year there were only one outstanding receivable for $2,544.20 being the 2nd rebate payment from Kookaburra whilst the only outstanding payable was $903.38 to Cricket NSW.

During the year the CCCA were able to finalise the outstanding Superannuation payments/ employee entitlements owing to former employee, Ms Lindy Peters which were highlighted in last years audit report. This year the CCCA recorded a profit of $28,958 which could be considered as abnormal as the CCCA Executive looks to have a break-even result on a year in year out basis. The major reason for the profit with the Season Launch having to be cancelled whilst the Presentation Night numbers were also reduced due to the COVID pandemic. In addition to this the inability of senior and junior finals to be paid resulted in a significant saving on umpire fees. On a representative front the Opens carnival was played at home with the U19 & U16 girls also not able to attend their Country Championships provided substantial savings. This years the CCCA Executive determined to fund 50% of the Youth Championships attire to assist reduce the burden on parents. As at 30 April 2021, the CCCA had cash reserves of $220,829.21, including $35,093.56 in the Zone Account and unused Grant Funds of $74,541.84. A separate bank account will be set up for the Grant funds. The reserves are considered satisfactory to meet the CCCA requirements and fund their operations as well as major projects which includes the Cricket Ball trading as well as facility developments prior to receipt of grant funds. An example of this was the Gavenlock Oval synthetic wicket. Moving forward funding the greater use of Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreational Complex at Tuggerah is well in the thinking of the CCCA Executive. All taxation obligations have been met and financial records have been audited by the CCCA’s Auditor. Garry Burkinshaw Finance Committee Chairperson Central Coast Cricket Association

Competition & Grounds Committee Report On behalf of the Competition Committee, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate all Clubs and Players for taking part in season 2020/21. This season we were once again impacted by the Covid-19 impact, with a competition start being pushed back by a month. Thank you to all clubs and players for their understanding, what was available to us was reduced, but we wanted to maintain the integrity of our First Grade competition. This led to trialling T20 cricket on Thursday afternoon / evening, and what a success it turned out to be. Congratulations to those teams who were crowned Premiers, and once again we find ourselves ruing the rain that destroyed Grand Finals. We are restricted to the dates we get from Council, however feedback from clubs is clear, and we will do all we can to hold a backup date for lower grades and junior premiership deciders.

Congratulations to all of the individual award winners across both Senior & Junior competitions. I would also like to thank the other members of the Competition Committee, Sharon Anderson, Ben Campbell, Duane Hutchison, and Jack Wilson for the time they have given and the work they have put in throughout the year. We had an incredibly good committee this season, and I hope that all members renominate. I would also like to acknowledge the CCCA board for their efforts. The availability of the wickets at the Tuggerah Regional Sporting Complex was a huge bonus for the CCCA. We will look to be holding more and more cricket at the venue as we move forward. Season 2021/22 will once again bring many challenges to not just this committee, but everyone involved in CCCA cricket. We look forward to the new season, and hope that all clubs will be able to grow and prosper. Gary Kavanagh Competition Committee Chairman

Representative Committee Taking over from Glenn Rowlands as Rep Chairman has been a learning curb and I have tried my best to live up to his high standards. A few words on Glenn from my perspective as a junior coach in the rep arena over a period of years prior to my new role Glenn was always a person who you could call on for advice and guidance,I had the pleasure of teaming up with Glenn in 1997-98 to win the Bradman cup and state challenge and found him to be a good bloke on and off the field so thank you Glenn and you should be honoured in the way you have handled this role and I will do my best to continue your work. This season was a challenge for all with covid being a deciding factor in most carnivals being cancelled. The open men beat Newcastle for the first time which was a highlight. We had 2 players from that carnival selected in the NSW Country side-Alex Patterson and Scott Burkinshaw. Gary Kavanagh decided to step down as manager of the mens open side after a period 10 years and we all would thank him for his contributions. The male and female Regional Bash results were 2 loses which was unfortunate. Teagan Kavanagh made the NSW Open Female Country side. The junior Girl representative season also hampered by covid with the Central Coast unable to participate in -U16 - U19 Female Country Championships Alicia Bates and Grace Dignam both made U19 ACT/NSW Country side. Junior Boys results U12 and U15 both winning the Greater Hunter tri series the U16’s being defeated in the final -with U13 and U14 finishing mid stream. Bradman Cup and Colts travelled to Tamworth with average results both finishing mid table. Junior Representative Coordinator Report The season 2020/21 was a season to remember. COVID-19 being the main contributor to uncertainly throughout the representative season. In the end, a representative season was achieved. This was my first year in this role and I enjoyed being a part of the Central Coast Representative program. The CCCA entered the following teams into rep programs across NSW –

• Boys U12 Greater Hunter

• Boys U13 Youth Championships

• Boys U14 Youth Championships

• Boys U15 Youth Championships

• Boys U16 Greater Hunter

• Girls U13 Greater Hunter (inaugural season)

• Girls U15 Metro Youth Championships

January Carnival Teams

• Boys U14 – Newcastle Carnival

• Boys U15 – Hunter Valley Carnival

Teams were also nominated for U11, U12 & U13 however these carnivals did not proceed due to the

Pandemic.

Junior Representative Competitions CNSW Youth Champs – Boys U13, U14, U15 & Girls U15: This competition was heavily affected covid-19 and rain. The boys played 3 x one day games before going to a carnival that was scheduled in December (end of school term) to play 4 x T20 games. All 3 one day games were played with the Central Coast hosting a one of the rounds at the new Tuggerah complex. Feedback on Tuggerah – more rep games to be played at this new venue. The carnivals were affected by rain with all 3 x carnivals cancelled. These games were moved 2 x weekends in February to provide content to our rep players. Games against Hunter, Lake Mac & Newcastle were organized with a full round of U14 & U15 games again played at Tuggerah. The feedback received was that these games had no real meaning and were played for the sake of playing. The dates also clashed with other sports causing some issues with team selections. The positive part was that our Central Coast played all games with the right attitudes and eagerness to compete. Boys U15 – Placed First Boys U14 – Placed Second Boys U13 – Placed Third Girls U15 Metro played all their games through February & March. This was outside of the normal November & December time frame for the U15’s competition. The girls were able to play all but 1 game within their season. Games were played home and away with the girls having a couple of road trips to Illawarra and Canberra. Girls U15 – Placed Eighth CNSW Greater Hunter Comp – Boys U12, U16 & Girls U13 The Greater Hunter comps sit outside of the CNSW Youth Champs. These competitions are organized by the CNSW CaTS, Brett Rankin. The competitions were to consist of Hunter, Lake Macquarie & Newcastle. Hunter do not field any teams and so the competition involved only 3 teams. All competitions were played through November & December. U16’s played one day games, U12 Boys played a mixed of one day games and T20 and the U13 Girls played T20 games only. Boys U12 – Placed First Boys U16 – Placed Second Girls U13 – Placed Third Feedback from players and parents suggested the need for more teams within the competition. I believe the CCCA are looking at alternate options to provide the right content for these age groups. January Carnivals Unfortuantely COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the U11, U12 & U13 Boys carnivals. Only the U14 & U15 Boys proceeded. U14 team travelled to Newcastle and competed against existing Youth Champ teams. They preformed very well including a very narrow loss to the Lake Macquarie Youth Champ side. They ended up winning their last game against Far North Coastal and placing 7th. U15 team travelled to Raymond Terrace and also competed against some strong Youth Champ sides.

Like the U14’s team, they too had a strong carnival including a very close game against Lake Macquarie. The team ended up wining their last game against North Coast and finishing 7th. Representative Selections Trials for last season were scheduled to occur at the beginning of April 2020. Due to COVID-19, all boys trials were moved to August with teams from U12-U16’s selected. Due to the uncertainly of cricket actually going ahead, it was very tough to lock down trial dates. With winter codes playing deep into August & September, the trials clashed with other sports. The first open trials were completed at in August and squads were selected. Form those squads, rain interrupted invitational trials occurred with teams selected.

• 1st 12 players selected per age group.

• 2nd 12 players selected for January carnivals Boys trials for season 2021/22 have been penciled in for Aug 2021 with the following as a guide:

• Coaches names June/July

• Boys Open Trials August (across 2 x Sunday’s)

• Invitational trial held in September (training squads)

• Teams selected September

• First rep games November Girls do not have trials due to low numbers. Instead an expression of interest (EOI) was sent out to all female players from U11-U16. From these EOI’s, teams were selected. This process has been identified as not the best way to form our female rep sides. Currently a document is being prepared to streamline junior girls’ cricket from grass roots to representative. This includes a full trial process. The trial process is also penciled in for August. Representative Clothing This year the CCCA arranged for all players to purchase their own rep clothing. Due to COVID-19 requirements and how sharing is not allowed, this practice was introduced. The CCCA subsidized the cost of the apparel by half, making the cost to purchase CCCA apparel very reasonable. Ideas for apparel moving forward –

• Having an online portal where parent purchase/order the apparel they require

• Having an online portal then allows for apparel sizing to be displayed, allowing parents to make sound decisions on sizes.

• The portal can also allow for streamlining of invoicing to parents.

• Pre-purchasing stock prior to the season starting. Challenges faced throughout the year include –

• COVID-19 and the requirements that needed to be met.

• Communication to all players and parents. The use of the new email is great but unfortunately some of my emails did not make it through to all parents and players.

• Ground allocations – mainly outside of the Central Coast

• Content for our players – with a disruptive season, not enough content was provided to our rep players.

Overall, I enjoyed being the Junior Rep Co-Ordinator and would love to continue in the role next season. David Winiata CCCA Junior Rep Co-ordinator

Male Zone Academy Report The 2020 Zone Academy faced the same challenges that the entire cricket community faced due to the uncertainty around Covid restrictions. Due to The impact of covid the Academy was only confirmed and organised late into the off season. Due to this we had some major changes to the Academy compared to previous years. A Squad of 12 was selected with one player pulling out early in the Academy due to winter sport commitments. This was reduced from previous years where a squad of 18 was selected. Sessions cut back to 6 from 8 due to Cricket NSW budget cuts. Budget cuts also meant all previous funding was cut in half. This included coach payments and funding for facility hire and training equipment. CNSW also changed previous coaching roles away from independent contractors to part time staff. Original sessions planned included multiple sessions with Newcastle. Due to covid hot spots and restrictions these sessions where cancelled and the individual squads trained separately. Challenges included coach availability, mainly my self having a child and appendicitis in the middle of the Academy. Relationship with council is an area I think we could improve, small things like turning up to planned sessions and the outfield not been mowed. We booked Adcock Park for a game and the outfield hadn’t been mowed creating obvious challenges. Some real positives where some new coaches, Nathan Doyle and Glenn Giddings proved to be excellent additions. Nathan being a Central Coast junior, it’s great to keep people like that still involved with our development programs even when they have moved to play in the Sydney competition. We had two players selected in the 19s ACT/Country NSW team, Harry Townsend and Nick Toohey. We also had three players selected in the 17s CNSW State Challenge, Daniel Thompson, Karan Katli and Nick Toohey. As a Zone we are consistently producing country NSW fast bowlers and finger spinners, (a strength of the Central Coast through to opens). We seem to have produced players who show ample ability as batsman but fail to provide big scores. I’m not sure if this is due to our facilities or coaching, it could also be a case of this crop of players coming through have better quality bowlers. However it’s something that’s been identified and we will be looked to try and target this area to help more of our batsman push on to play a higher level and have success at country championships. It’s great to see some of our Academy players come through and play in the Central Coast opens representative team, as well as having success in the local first grade competition. Hopefully the coming season we see more of our older player stay on the coast and find success in club and representative cricket before moving to play in Sydney. Alex Patterson Male Zone Academy Coach

Female Zone Academy Report Season 2020/21 saw the Central Coast host its first stand alone Female Zone Academy. With numbers growing in participation, the timing was perfect, and the participation and involvement of the players and parents proved that our region is on the way up. Starting in August the Academy ran across 6 x 4-hour sessions which included.

19

• Game based scenarios on the centre wicket, both at Taylor Park & Adcock Park (synthetic),

Tuggerah Sporting Complex (Turf) and Kincumber Indoor Sports Centre. • Fielding drills incorporating Outfield and Infield catching & throwing techniques. As well as Wicket

Keeping drills run by Brett Rankin. • Bowling techniques and drills for both Spin and Pace. • Batting drills to enhance their skill levels and to build confidence in scoring more freely. • Game awareness drills and activities to allow them to grow as cricketers both physically and

mentally, while building self-confidence. We ran two age groups across the Academy to prepare the players for Country Championships, these age groups were U/16’s and U/19s, with selected players from the 16’s age group playing in the U/19’s age group as well. This gave us a total of 24 registered attendees across the Academy. With the assistance and guidance of James Smith (Assistant Coach) and Alexandra Adams (Development Coach) the players improved across all the sessions in their skill level and more importantly you could see an improvement in their team building, personal belief, and overall confidence by not being overawed being around older, more experienced teammates, something that as coaches we should all strive to achieve. Overall, in our first season of being a stand-alone Academy, it was pleasing to see the initial age division disappear and the younger players joining, conversing and at times even performing at a higher level than their older teammates, which shows that our region can only grow into the future. We were asked to select an “Academy Player of the Year” recipient and all the coaching staff were unanimous in awarding this award to Grace Dignam. Through her infectious love of the game, always asking for ways to improve and more importantly the way she interacted with everyone showed us that with people like her being involved in the game through coaching and playing our region is in good hands for the future. I want to thank James and Alex for their support, guidance, and enthusiasm throughout the program, Brett Rankin for his expert knowledge & passion for Wicket keeping and of course cricket in general, along with the guidance off the playing field. The CCCA board and CNSW for allowing me the opportunity to guide these amazing players and assist in their growth of this beautiful game. Last, but not least, I want to thank every one of these players for listening, asking, and challenging us to allow them to achieve their desired goals and dreams in the future. Watching and speaking with you all has been an absolute dream to be a part of and along with the other coaches that are involved with this program, we are excited for what you all can and will achieve in your lives. Thank you for being amazing. Geoff Drury Female Zone Academy Coach

Code of Conduct Commissioner Report The NSW Country Cricket’s Association Code of Conduct Procedures were adopted for the 2020/21 season. These gave clear direction to the types of offences and level of offences and this was well received by all umpires and clubs. Every club was very supportive and co-operative during my investigations. There were several occasions were things could have gotten messy throughout the year but clubs and individuals showed that they could take punishment and accept responsibility well. There will be a review of the adoption of the Code of Conduct Procedures for next year as the prescribed sentencing components does cause issues when playing multi-format cricket in 1st and 2nd Grade. The standard of proof must also be something that needs to be looked in the coming seasons as on many occasions complainants and respondents did not seem to understand what was required, either further education needs to occur or for a greater definition of this in the guidelines. Most reported offences were graded as Level 1 and thus did not require any judicial hearings. Most of these did come from Umpires which is good as we want to ensure that Umpires aren’t threatened and feel safe when making decisions that impact the game.

Central Coast Cricket Association Inc. ABN 61015119391 Annual Report 2020/21

20

There were 3 Level 2 offences this year that were charged – 2 of which was due to repeat offence, the other one was of a more serious nature and resulted in an immediate Level 2 charge being handed down and accepted by the perpetratoir. There was only 1 judiciary hearing this year which is again very surprising considering there was in total 15 code of conduct complaints this season. Social Media does need to take a greater look for the future as there are several components that must be considered especially when players comment on public spheres including CCCA social media pages. A pleasing aspect of the season was the lack of reports coming from junior games. There was not a single report coming from the Junior parts of clubs this season which is a positive matter to finish on. Jack Wilson Code of Conduct Commissioner

Hall of Fame Committee Report This year the Hall of Fame Committee announced four new inductees into the Central Coast Cricket Hall of Fame. The players that were acknowledged as worthy recipients for this honour were: Arthur Clifton, Mick Baker, Barry Olsen & Ross Steele These players all had outstanding reputations, service to the game, statistics and were all amazing examples of the top end in the history of our game on the coast. These players joined our original six inductees from last year, those being: Alan Davidson, Jack Gavenlock, George Lammi, Peter Davidson, Damien Wright & Dick Baxter. We look forward to celebrating these players at a Hall of Fame function in the near future. I would also like to thank the Hall of Fame Committee being Greg Smith, Rod Masters, Errol Smith and Phil Dales for giving up their valuable time in being involved in this process. Child Safety Officer Report Season 2020 / 2021 saw the Central Coast Cricket Association continued the work that had been set out during the 2020/21 season – I thank David Winiata for his assistance in ensuring that our children remain safe and that clubs comply with these regulations. In providing a safe and supportive environment the Central Coast Cricket Association undertook; • Endorse Australian Cricket’s Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy • Appointment of a CCCA Child Safety Officer • Implement WWWC checks • Actively monitoring compliance with a WWWC Member Register including updates at monthly

Board Meetings • Registration and verification of members with the Kids Guardian • Online & face to face training for Child Safety Officer, Coaches, Managers and Team Officials • Individual acknowledgment from Members “Code of Behaviour” • Individual acknowledgment from Members “Looking After Our Kids” • Actively encouraging and empowering people if they “See Something, Say Something” Whilst there were no reported incidents in 2020/21 the Central Coast Cricket Association remains vigilant in providing a safe environment for children and young people in a supportive consistent manner. Central Coast Umpires Report Another season done. With Covid wreaking havoc in 2020 we were unable to hold an in-person training course which was unfortunate as we did have a few potential umpires on our radar. Whilst this put a dent in our available umpires for the 2020-2021 season, we did manage to cover almost all first grade games throughout the season and all grade finals including the two womens’ competitions. Our next training course will be held on 14-15 August at Ourimbah RSL and it is hoped we will add to our ranks. Grade Final appointments for season 2020-21: First Grade - John Davidson & Dave Grainger Second Grade - Mark Ronson & Tom Maurer Third Grade - Paul McIvor & Hamish Millen Fourth Grade - Alex Brown & Elisabeth Houston Fifth Grade - Geoff Peebles & Robert Bowen Sixth Grade - Mal Emerson & Lyle Fry Seventh Grade - Tony Booth & Bill Ashe Eighth Grade - Warren Jackson & Seamus Heaphey-Millen Women’s A Grade - Bill Colbran Women’s B Grade - Darryl Webb Umpires Milestones during the season: Tony Booth - 375 games Mark Ronson - 200 games Tom Maurer - 175 games Hamish Millen - 125 games Bill Colbran - 100 games John Davidson - 100 games Dave Grainger - 75 games Elisabeth Houston - 50 games Umpires Retiring: Joe Dowden - 237 games James Figallo - 184 games

Veterans Cricket Association Report Season 2020/21 was, again, a season with many challenges. The season was affected by COVID at various stages but, overall, all players were able to play games against our regular opponents. Veterans’ cricket has grown enormously in the last few years across all age groups. We play games in all age groups from Over 50s, 60s to Over 70s. New competitions for Over 55s and Over 65s are being organised for the coming season. We played games against regions right across NSW including Newcastle, Mid North Coast, Tamworth, New England, Southern Highlands, Port Jackson (Sydney), Western Wildfires (based in Lithgow), Quirindi, Coffs Harbour, Armidale and Far North Coast. Information received from our State Executive indicates that more regions are anticipated to begin playing games this season.

Central Coast Cricket Association Inc. ABN 61015119391 Annual Report 2020/21

22

So with new age groups now playing and more regions keen to be involved Veterans Cricket across NSW and indeed Australia is in a very strong position. The Cyclones enjoyed the financial support of a number of sponsors. These are Everything Sports, Mark Bury Arborist Services, Eagle Self-Storage, Diggers Club, The Entrance, Central Coast Orthopaedics, Bendigo Bank, Casanova Seafoods and White, Williams & Whyte Financial Services. We thank them for their ongoing support. This season we were able to play the majority of our games at Rogers Park, Woy Woy. The wicket was prepared by one of our players, John Ridley. The wicket was always of the highest quality and visiting teams often said how lucky we were to play on such a great wicket. John was our Clubman of the Year. Other award winners for season 2020/21 were Over 50s John Toohey and Over 60s Charlie Charlton. We also had another Life Member presented with their medallion this season. Congratulations to Bob Tranter. The Over 50s once again competed in the Doug Walters Cup with two teams competing. Perhaps the highlight for the 50s was hosting the State Carnival across the Central Coast in February. 28 teams from across NSW competed and the Cyclones entered a team in each of the 4 divisions. Our Division 1 team, captained by Mark Austin won their Final (see below photo) and the Division 3 team were Runners Up, a fantastic achievement. There was a tremendous of organisation and hard work done to make the Carnival happen and special thanks to John Jewiss, Tony Wilson and Rod Masters for their contributions. Also a special thank you to Central Coast Cricket and all the local clubs for your support and use of their grounds. The Over 60s competed for the first time in the Vintage Competition which was held every second Sunday. The competition was hampered by poor weather but we managed to win all our games except for one. We also entered a team in the postponed State Carnival in Orange in March. Hopefully, this seasons’ Carnivals and games can run without disruption. A 65s mini Carnival was held on the Central Coast in December. The 70s entered one team in the State Carnival in Port Macquarie held in late February, early March. The Central Coast also hosted a mini Carnival in early February. Tony Formby Secretary CCVCA

Cricket NSW Cricket Manager Report Season 2020/2021 This cricket season was like no other. Full of challenges including COVID-19 & the heavy rain through March. CNSW support team continued to provide support to all clubs and the CCCA. These people are – Matthew Williams (Schools Manager), Sharyn Beck (Clubs Officer), Neil McDonald (Area Manager and me David Winiata (Cricket Manager) On top of the full-time staff, CNSW had a large group of CNSW Casual Development Staff that supported school and club programs across the Central Coast. These staff include – Chris Holloway, Brad Holloway, Nathan Stein, Jessica Holmes, Ethan Milne, Daniel Hueston, Trent Jones, Veronica Brown, Damon Steel and Alex Adam. These individuals were the backbone of making school and club programs amazing. Cricket in Central Coast Schools Engaging schools this season was a huge challenge. COVID stopped any outside programs to be allowed inside school grounds. CNSW needed to think outside the box on how to keep cricket front of mind in our schools. Matt Williams came up with activities and teacher driven games that kept cricket current through Terms 2 & 3. Like last year, the CCCA supported the school to club recruitment drive and put forward $5000 to support the role out of school programs. Our plans for school engagement through actual programs though, were affected by school lockdowns but luckily in Term 3, schools opened to CNSW staff only. Not all schools opened their doors but with the work of Matt Williams, we were able to enter some schools across the Central Coast. Those schools included –

Gosford East PS Lisarow PS

Valley View PS Bateau Bay PS

Toukley PS St Patricks East Gosford

Woy Woy South PS Warnervale PS

Star of the Sea Terrigal Green Point Christian

Kanwal PS St Brendan’s Lake Munmorah

St Cecilia's Wyong McKillops Catholic Warnervale

Lake Munmorah PS Killarney Vale PS

This season, the CCCA will hopefully continue the support of school programs where CNSW programs will continue to be rolled out to schools but also After School programs being made available for recruitment purposes. Cricket in Central Coast Clubs With cricket starting 1 month later than normal, it allowed clubs to prepare a little better with their junior/senior teams but also the Junior & Master Blast programs. This season saw an increase in entry level participants. JUNIOR BLASTERS – 26% increase MASTER BLASTERS – 5% increase This is great to see as the future of our clubs comes from these entry level programs. Special thanks go out to Kincumber Avoca Cc & Terrigal Matcham CC for running fantastic centres. Also, Lisarow Ourimbah CC & The Entrance CC for growing their centres/programs.

Junior & senior players numbers were steady for this season which is surprising as our community is still dealing with COVID. The real growth has been in girls & women’s cricket. Girls Sixers League (Introduction to Cricket) grew from 5 teams to 8 teams. With a special mention to Wyong CC & Central Coast Grammar for entering their first girls teams. The Girls Youth League grew from 4 teams to 5 teams. And the Women’s T20 comp grew from 11 teams to 15 teams. CNSW Support of Local Representative Cricket & Grade Cricket CNSW continued the support of both Representative Cricket and Grade cricket finals. This involved advertising, music and ground announcing. The events covered included: 1. Regional Bash Games 2. T20 First Grade & U21’s Grand Finals 3. One Day First Grade Grand Final Club Governance This season all local clubs were fantastic with compliance. Each club has a requirement to be Child Safe with all 10 clubs endorsing the Child Safe Policy and embedding it into their club processes. Also, with COVID this season, all clubs needed to be Covid Safe compliant. This involved a Covid safe plan, sign in QR codes and Covid safe practises being adopted. All clubs adopted these practises without an issue. Grants Another strong season for grants being awarded to clubs and the CCCA. Clubs were able to take advantage of the T20 Legacy Fund (last year), ACIF Fund and the Grassroots Fund. Grassroots Fund was able to provide up to $2000 to clubs for the purchase of club. The exciting part was that all clubs received this funding. Other projects/grants won by clubs were:

• Terrigal Matcham CC – Female Participant $8000 (T20 Legacy)

• Narara Wyoming CC - Female Participant $4000 (T20 Legacy)

• CCCA - Female Participant $10000 (T20 Legacy)

• Terrigal Matcham CC – Upgrade of synthetic

• Lisarow Ourimbah CC – New training nets $90000 (T20 & ACIF)

• CCCA – Carrington St Oval Upgrade $80000 (T20 & ACIF)

• Wyong CC – Girls New Innings Funding $1500 (Cricket Australia)

• CCCA - Girls New Innings Funding $3000 (Cricket Australia)

Next Season New opportunities will be available next season. I’m really looking forward to engaging clubs even more, supporting them to grow and increase their player numbers. And assist with their governance. Central Coast Cricket does not occur though, if it’s not for our volunteers, association, business partners and schoolteachers. They are the lifeblood of grassroots and we should always remember cricket is around and alive because of the tireless hours they put into the game. Community Cricket is here to serve and support these people.

Female Cricket Report Female cricket on the Central Coast continued to be in a growth phase through the 2020/21 season. With 2020/21 being the best season to date for female participation. COVID-19 heavily affect the season but the CCCA was still able to field a close to full season of cricket for both the junior and senior female players across the Central Coast. And even with a reduced season and schools having minimal cricket, both junior & senior player numbers increased by 21%. A total of 275 females played cricket across the Central Coast. Season 2020/21 had the following formats of cricket being played – Girls Sixers (Introduction to cricket) – Stage 1, T20 cricket where everyone bats, bowls and fields. This format saw an increase in teams from 5 total teams in 19/20 to 8 full teams in season 20/21. New teams were fielded by Central Coast Grammar School & Wyong District CC. The rest of the teams came from the following clubs – Kincumber Avoca (x 2), Lisarow Ourimbah (x 2) Northern Power & Narara Wyoming. Girls Youth League – Under 16 cricket played on Friday afternoons continued this season from the great success of last season. 5 teams competed in this competition with teams coming from – Narara Wyoming CC, Lisarow Ourimbah CC, Northern Power CC, Terrigal Matcham CC & Kincumber Avoca CC. This competition continued to have the same playing rules as the Women’s T20 competition to allow for transition of juniors into the senior women’s competitions and also participation for all players involved. Women’s T20 (Saturday afternoon) This competition continues to develop quality teams and players and the most exciting part is the increase in teams for the 4th year straight. The competition grew to 15 teams. And for the first time ever, the competition was split into an A & B grade. A grade fielded 7 teams and B grade 8 teams. Clubs that fielded teams were – Northern Power (x 3), Wyong District CC (x 3), Lisarow Ourimbah CC (x 3) Southern Spirit CC (x 2), Terrigal Matcham CC, Kincumber Avoca CC, The Entrance CC, Warnervale CC and Narara Wyoming CC. The competition continued to be in T20 format with 8 on-field players (players could share games meaning up to 16 players could play per match) permitted. In order to increase participation levels, the following playing condition was used, whereby batters had to retire after facing 30 balls or scoring 50 runs whichever was achieved first. The batters were able to return to the crease if all other batters were dismissed. This rule continued to be well received across the competition A highlight of the competition was the increased level of skill as well as an increase in the number of younger female players many of whom had progressed from the juniors. And also having two grades allowed for more competitive games across the whole season. Another highlight was representative cricket available to Central Coast Female players in 2020/21 even through COVID-19. The CCCA again fielded teams in the Under 15 & Under 18’s Country Championship but COVID-19 caused the Central Coast teams to be withdrawn from the competition. Instead these teams travelled to Sydney to play games against the NSW U16 & U19 Female teams. While beaten in both ages groups, this provided a great experience for all of our girls. Central Coast also entered Girls teams into the Under 15 Margaret Pedan Youth Championships & the Girls U13 Greater Hunter competition. Again, the Central Coast competed in the standalone female opens NSW Women’s Regional Bash knockout competition. Whilst success in these competitions was limited the pleasing fact was that all players who represented the Central Coast played in a CCCA female competition, being the only Zone who could make this claim. 2020/21 season saw our first ever standalone Cricket NSW Female Academy. Previously Central Coast players were part of a combined Newcastle/Central Coast Academy however lobbying by the

CCCA Executive over a number of years has resulted in their own Academy being approved. Geoff Drury is the appointed Female Zone Academy Coach. The CCCA continues to be one of the few female cricket regions in the country who is able to provide a complete female cricket pathway from Early Entry Programs (i.e. blasters) through to elite female cricket. (see below diagram). And to top off the report, we can’t forget to mention two of our local female hero’s in Teagan Kavanagh and Alisha Bates. Both of these talented players made their Men’s 1st Grade debuts this season. Teagan was the first ever female to play Men’s 1st grade against Northern Power (round 2) where she took 4 wickets on debut. Alisha’s debut came in round 12 against Wyong where both Alisha and Teagan played against each other. Alisha took 3 wickets in that game too. The season ahead looks to be another celebrated season with potential for more teams from more clubs in the female space. I personally love hearing all of our cricket clubs embracing female participation with many clubs already planning their recruitment drives for more players.

Sponsorship The CCCA were once again very fortunate to have the support of a number of partners who enable the CCCA to continue to implement a number of initiatives to support the growth and development of cricket in the region.

Diggers @ The Entrance – Major Sponsor

Diggers have been a long term supporter of the Central Coast Cricket Juniors and whilst COVID-19 affected the club they were still more than happy to assist the CCCA for this year. They also played host to the visiting Zones for the Opens Country Championships as well as the O50’s State Championships. They were also hosted our Junior Presentation this year with the night having to be split into two different times due to COVID however the night remained a huge success.

Representative Cricket - Seniors

The Central Coast walked away from the Men’s NSW Country Championships, knowing that a bad period on Saturday afternoon cost them any chance of once again playing in the Country Final.

With the carnival being played at the Tuggerah Regional Sporting Complex the entire squad took confidence into their three matches, and on Sunday afternoon, were faced with their first ever win over Newcastle, but a loss to Central Northern on Saturday, preventing the side from progressing further.

The Colts team went away to Tamworth, and like the senior side won two of their three fixtures, but a loss to Newcastle, also so them finish in 2nd place for the carnival.

The Bradman Cup side also travelled to Tamworth, finishing 3rd place in their pool, with just the one win during the carnival.

Unfortunately due to the ever evolving restrictions due to Covid-19, the Female U16 and U19 teams were excluded from their respective carnivals.

The season commenced with both the male and female Regional Bash sides taking the road to Scone to take on Lake Mac Attack in the men’s and Northern Inland in the female competition. Entering the competition without having played a competition put both teams on the back foot and despite their best efforts went down narrowly in both games which saw them knocked out of the competitions. Once again it should be noted that the female side was made up entirely of players who play in the local CCCA competition and we were the only side in the competition who could lay claim to this

Hogg Silver Trophy It wasn’t a great season for the Central Coast as far as the Hogg Silver Shield placing is concerned.

The Hogg Silver Trophy is awarded to the best performing Zone across the fivecompetitions contested under the Country Cricket NSW Banner, both Regional Bash competitions and as well as for the first time the Cricket NSW Youth Championships competition.

Points are awarded based on the finishing positions in each competition with 10 points awarded to the winner right through to 1 point for finishing eighth.

At the end of the season the Central Coast finished in 8th position. Newcastle were awarded the winners after an excellent season in all competitions.

Plan B Regional Bash - Men Central Coast Rush finished in last place of the Sixers Pool #2, after a disappointing loss in the only game they played this season.

The Rush went down to Lake Mac Attack by 4 wickets in the fixture played at Bill Rose Sports Complex, Scone. Batting first the Rush compiled 9/127 off their 20 overs. Ryan Fenning and Harry Woodhead top scored with 25 each, Ben Cohen scored 22. The Attack then went about the run chase in a comfortable position. Chris Archer and Dylan Robertson both took two wickets each.

Women’s Cricket Bash Central Coast Rush Women’s team, also travelled to Scone and took on the Northern Inland Bolters. Unfortunately like the men’s side, they also went down in this fixture, in last place of the Sixers Pool #2, after a disappointing loss in the only game they played this season.

Bowling first did a great job to restrict the Bolters to 9/95 off their 20 overs. Jacinta Crawford led the way with 3/14 and was well supported by Elissa Andrews 2/11. The Rush were then cruising along at 1/74, only to have a collapse and finish short at 6/85. Rebecca Callen 29 and Rochelle Davis 27 put on a 69 run partnership for the second wicket.

Open Mens The Country Cricket NSW Championships were once again split into two pools with Central Coast pitted against Central North, Newcastle and North Coastal with the three day carnival played at Tuggerah. The conditions for the carnival were oppressive with hot temperatures and strong winds. Central Coast opened their Country Cricket NSW campaign with a 96 run with over a youthful North Coastal side at Tuggerah today. Batting first, Central Coast amassed 7/312 off their 50 overs highlight be Dylan Robertson and Harry Woodhead scoring 80 runs off the last 32 balls of the innings. In reply North Coastal were dismissed for 218. On Day 2, Central Coast’s carnival suffered a major hiccup with a 99 run loss to Central North. After dismissing Central North for 192, the Central Coast batsmen failed in the run chase being dismissed inside 18 overs for just 93. The final game the Central Coast took on heavyweights Newcastle. Since the formation of the Country Championships the Central Coast had never beaten Newcastle and the entered Sunday's game on the back of a humiliating batting performance against Central North the previous day.

Winning the toss and batting on a hot and windy day, Central Coast's top order once gain failed to fire and they slumped to 3/6 inside the first 4 overs. This then became 4/23 then 5/58, 6/75 and when Kaine Harmsworth was out to a highly questionable LBW decision the innings was in tatters at 7/77. Harmworth's contribution was 39. Enter the stars from day one, Dylan Robertson and Harry Woodhead to stage a remarkable comeback for the home side. No doubt the pair would have conjured up their strategy around the kitchen table the previous night but after seeing off the Newcastle bowling early they were able to expand their shot making as their innings' progressed. When Robertson was eventually dismissed in the 47th over the pair had put together a partnership of 138 runs to provide a glimmer of hope for the Central Coast. Robertson finished with 74 runs from 80 balls, whilst Woodhead finished with 54 off 69 balls. Defending 219, the Central Coast threw the new ball to Harmsworth and he delivered immediately picking up 2 wickets in the first over. Fellow opening bowler Alex Patterson picked up two of his own and when Harmsworth claimed previous day century maker Ryan Van Kemenade, Newcastle's innings was on the rocks at 5/16 which became 6/28 when Ben Sunshine claimed a wicket with his first ball. The question on everyone's lips was could the Central Coast pull off a miracle to win the carnival which would have required them to bowl Newcastle inside 70 runs. Unfortunately this was not possible as Ben Balcombe saw the visitors to safety with a innings of 65, however the Central Coast were able to claim the ground breaking victory when Ben Sunshine took the final wicket to dismiss Newcastle for 147. Harmsworth was superb taking 3/13 off 6 overs, he was well supported by Patterson 2/25, Sunshine 2/19, Chris Archer 2/34, Blair Lindsay 1/11 whilst Robertson rounded out an excellent carnival with 0/24 of his 10 overs. Central Coast finished the cranival in 2nd place behind Newcastle who progressed through to defeat Riverina in the final.

Squad Chris Archer (Northern Power) – capt; Scott Burkinshaw (Lisarow Ourimbah), Ben Cohen (Lisarow Ourimbah), Ryan Fenning (Lisarow Ourimbah), Broc Hardy (The Entrance), Kaine Harmsworth (Warnervale), Jack Heuston (Kincumber Avoca), Blair Lindsay (Lisarow Ourimbah), Steve McCabe (Kincumber Avoca), Alex Patterson (Terrigal Matcham), Dylan Robertson (Kincumber Avoca), Ben Sunshine (Lisarow Ourimbah), Adam Taylor (The Entrance), Harry Woodhead (Kincumber Avoca), Garry Burkinshaw (Coach), Gary Kavanagh (Manager) Bob Archer (Scorer)

Colts The COVID pandemic saw a change to the 2021 Country Cricket NSW carnival with two pools of four four as opposed to all eight Zones competing at the one venue. The Central Coast travelled to Tamworth to take on Central North, Newcastle and North Coastal in a three day carnival. Wet weather plagued the carnival with matches on all days affected with the day 2 match against Newcastle reduced to a 20 over fixture. The Central Coast started the carnival well with a convincing six wicket win over Central Northern. Day 2 saw the team suffer an 8 wicket loss to Newcastle in the T20 fixture. With results needing to go their way on the final day to win the carnival, Central Coast did their part defeating North Coastal by 2 wickets, however Newcastle also had a win meaning that they remained unbeaten to not only win the carnival but also declared overall Country Cricket NSW Champions. Under 19 & Under 16 Girls Unfortunately, the Central Coast were unable to play in the NSW Country Female Under 16’s and Under 19’s Country Championships after being deemed to be too great a risk due to the Pandemic even though these carnivals were scheduled the week following the Colts and Bradman Cup carnivals. To offset not being able to play at the Championships, Cricket NSW scheduled two T20 matches against a NSW Metropolitan side at Blacktown and whilst appreciative of the efforts to give the girls a game certainly did not make up for missing out on playing at the Country Championships. The Central Coast travelled to Tamworth to take on Central North, Newcastle and North Coastal in a three day carnival. Wet weather plagued the carnival with matches on all days affected. Central Coast opened the carnival in style with a 5 wicket win over Central Northern however this was their only success of the tournament losing by 98 runs to Newcastle and 10 runs to North Coastal. The schedule was for the Central Coast to play one day matches against Hunter, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle before travelling to play a two carnival whereby they would play T20 matches against the other teams. Unfortunately due to the wet weather all carnivals were cancelled. As a substitute 4 x T20 matches were scheduled against Hunter, Lake Macquarie and Newcastle in February.

Under 12 Boy’s Greater Hunter Area Championships The Greater Hunter Championship for U12 Representative Cricket was played in 2020/21 for the second year of competition between the Central Coast, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. Paul began his playing for Toukley in the 60’s before playing for Doyalson from 1978-1980. It was from 1974 he that he laid down his roots with his beloved club, Lisarow Ourimbah. Over the next 46 years Paul was not only a player but also President (2 stints), Secretary, Selector, Curator, and storyteller. Not content with his roles at Lisarow, Paul became involved with the Central Coast Cricket Association joining the Executive for 2004-2006. With the Association going through difficult times, Paul joined the Executive in June 2015 and along with the late Dave Fraser and the new Executive was instrumental in turning around the CCCA fortunes. He became Vice President in 2016/17 before assuming the Chairman’s role a year later and continued in that role until he stood down from the Executive this year. Paul is always available to assist, and this has been demonstrated when he has assisted with the preparation of the wickets at Tuggerah in the lead up to major events. Central Coast Cricket Volunteer of the Year Kelly Jolley from Northern Power has been awarded the CCCA Volunteer of the Year for 2020/21. Kelly has been tireless worker for Northern Power as well as supporting Women more broadly, the following citation was given with her nomination: Kelly has come on board for the 2020/2021 season as NPCC’s social director. This appointment happened after a very successful pink stumps day in 2020, which Kelly organised. She managed to raise over $10,000 and cemented the unity of the club with such a successful fun filled day. This year she has exceeded all expectations and doubled this figure. It is a massive undertaking, particularly this year with COVID restrictions etc. This is not only a wonderful fundraising event but also an excellent opportunity to promote NPCC and Central Coast cricket. Kelly managed to utilise social media to promote the event as well as TV (NBN News) and newspaper coverage. The 2020 event was so successful that Tracey Bevan, head of McGrath Foundation, attended to show her support. Not only does Kelly organise this event, she also organises all other social engagements at NPCC. These are regularly attended by large numbers of members and family due to the fact that Kelly does an amazing job. Her events are fun and really bolster the sense of clubman ship at NPCC. Kelly’s contribution does not stop in this role. She also coaches the girls’ sixers team and captains the ladies blues side. She is vital to the growth of women’s cricket on the northern end of the coast. Kelly is the go-to girl for any jobs that need doing at the club. She is tireless in her efforts, and we would not be the community club we are today without her. Other nominees were: Alex Searle (Brisbane Water), Gavin Robertson (CC Grammar), Veronica Brown (Kincumber Avoca), Greg O’Donnell (Lisaroew Ourimbah), Sue Jordan (Narara Wyoming), Jihn Ridley (Southern Spirit), Scott Cameron (Terrigal Matcham), Rob Goldie (The Entrance), Adam Ruskin (Warnervale), Richard Mear (Wyong), David Paul (CC Veterans)

Hall of Fame Inductee’s Mick Baker Unfortunately, there are no records from the former Wyong District Cricket Association available to give an accurate tally of Mick’s statistics. A news item in the Newcastle Morning Herald dated 1/3/1937 refers to Mick scoring his second double century (217) of the season and brought his aggregate of centuries to six out of seven innings, a total of 976 runs. The double ton vs Tuggerah took 120 minutes. The cricketing ability of Mick is unsurpassed in the Wyong area. Between 1936/1937 and 1949/50 he scored ten 1st Grade tons & three 1st Grade double centuries. Mick was selected in John Bull Shield and District Colts teams, won the District batting average in 56/57 and won five 1st Grade premierships in the Wyong District Cricket Association for Wyong, East Wyong and Tuggerah. He was awarded Life Membership of the Wyong District Cricket Association in 1962 and Life Membership of Wyong Cricket Club in the same year. The current 6th Grade Premiership Trophy is named in his honour. He represented in John Bull Shield, Numerous District Colts Teams vs Sydney Club Colts teams, Hunter Valley Colts. He represented NSW Country vs Metropolitan at the SCG in 1933/34, in 1932/33 he was selected as wicketkeeper in the Northern NSW Country team vs England scoring 21 & 50 at Newcastle Sports Ground. Mick played in Sydney with the Western Suburbs Club for four seasons winning a Poidevin Gray premiership vs Northern Districts at the SCG. The records that Phil Dales has gathered is limited but still show the outstanding cricket ability of Mick Baker and he has certainly left a mark on Central Coast Cricket history. Alwynne (Mick) Gershom Baker, I’m sure you will all agree that he is a worthy inductee of our CCCA Hall of Fame.
