Ever heard of GYM… other than going to the GYM?? The acronym GYM (Giving Your Most) was birthed at the men’s Bulldog group as we sought a name and a meaningful way to reach out to local families with the love of Christ. Within hours an initial gift of $500 was received which continued to grow to just over $1600. We thank God for your generous hearts! Throughout this Christmas season many of you have given to the outreach ministry of GYM and you have touched the lives of nine local families. The tears and the heartfelt thanks of those you have blessed is the miracle of Christmas! Some of us are happy to put Christmas behind us…put up a new 2014 calendar, and get back to working and paying bills. Do you think God intended us to live differently after opening the gift of Jesus Christ? God gave us the gift of His Son, as a baby, as a child, as a friend, as a Redeemer and Savior. God gave His only Son, that which was closest to Him - so that you and I would know how to live differently. Living differently, what does it look like for one to give his or her most? We think of Purple Hearts, of men and women who give their very lives…we think of organ donors, those who donate blood, of Billy Grahams and Mother Theresas…of unsung heroes, of sacrifices, of those who gave life so others might live. Does it not involve giving that which is closest to us…so others might live? Would you and I live differently…if we were to give our most for a lifetime rather than just a season? I am not much for New Year’s resolutions…yet I am for living differently, because of Christ. Giving your most for Christ because He gave his most for us…would cause each of us to live differently…as an individual…as His church…as a community for a lifetime. What will giving your most look like for you in 2014 and beyond? Could it be setting aside self to forgive the unforgivable, setting aside self to believe God for the unbelievable, setting aside self to love the unlovable, setting aside self to give the un-givable…so others might live. 2014 will be more than work and paying the bills… let us continue to live and give the miracle of Christmas ~ Ken Graham~ “And whatever you do in word and deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, Giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Colossians 3:17 GYM GYM GYM GYM GYM

GYM?? The acronym GYM (Giving Your Most) wasbirthed at the men’s Bulldog group as we sought aname and a meaningful way to reach out to localfamilies with the love of Christ. Within hours aninitial gift of $500 was received which continued togrow to just over $1600. We thank God for yourgenerous hearts! Throughout this Christmas seasonmany of you have given to the outreach ministry ofGYM and you have touched the lives of nine localfamilies. The tears and the heartfelt thanks of thoseyou have blessed is the miracle of Christmas!

Some of us are happy to put Christmas behindus…put up a new 2014 calendar, and get back toworking and paying bills. Do you think God intendedus to live differently after opening the gift of JesusChrist?

God gave us the gift of His Son, as a baby, as a child,as a friend, as a Redeemer and Savior. God gave Hisonly Son, that which was closest to Him - so that youand I would know how to live differently.

Living differently, what does it look like for one togive his or her most? We think of Purple Hearts, ofmen and women who give their very lives…we thinkof organ donors, those who donate blood, of BillyGrahams and Mother Theresas…of unsung heroes, ofsacrifices, of those who gave life so others might live.

Does it not involve giving that which is closest tous…so others might live?

Would you and I live differently…if we were to giveour most for a lifetime rather than just a season?

I am not much for New Year’s resolutions…yet I am forliving differently, because of Christ.

Giving your most for Christ because He gave his mostfor us…would cause each of us to live differently…as anindividual…as His church…as a community for alifetime.

What will giving your most look like for you in 2014 andbeyond? Could it be setting aside self to forgive theunforgivable, setting aside self to believe God for theunbelievable, setting aside self to love the unlovable, setting aside self to give the un-givable…so others mightlive.

2014 will be more than work and paying the bills… let uscontinue to live and give the miracle of Christmas

I had thought about joining Bulldog Builders for some time, then I madea decision to take some action/be obedient based on a stronger “urging” that Iwas feeling. I began to participate in Bulldog Builders with the expectation thatjoining with other Men of God would be a blessing. I have not beendisappointed, which is especially surprising because I am not a morning person.Bulldog Builders has been such a great experience that I go to bed Tuesdaynights in anticipation of starting Wednesday early in a way that “grounds” me inbeing a tool for God to use. I would encourage any “brother” in the church togive Bulldog Builders at least one try to see that…“iron sharpens iron”.

Chrysalis Flight #42What Happens on a Chrysalis Flight? You'll spend three days with other people your

age in worship, prayer, fellowship, creativeexpression, recreation, singing and discussion.

You'll experience the love of God through prayersand the acts of service from a loving support

community. Think of it as three days for you todiscover or re-discover your spiritual self,

to analyze and realize who you are in Christ.

You'll hear talks that focus on the needsof maturing youth or young adults,

offering the message of the gospel and thefriendship and example of Jesus Christ.

Each day speakers present topics with lifeexamples, followed by discussion, reflection

and creative expression of how these messagescan encourage your personal faith. The point isto inspire, challenge and equip you for a closerfriendship with Christ and for Christian action

at home, church, school and community.

Chrysalis lifts up a way for you to enjoyChrist's friendship and love and to be

Christ's friend and partner in the world.

Walk to EmmausThe Walk to Emmaus is

a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthenthe local church through the development of

Christian disciples and leaders. The program’sapproach seriously considers the model of Christ’s

servanthood and encourages Christ’s disciples to actin ways appropriate to being “a servant of all.”

The Walk to Emmaus experience beginswith a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergyon the themes of God’s grace, disciplines

of Christian discipleship, and what itmeans to be the church.

The course is wrapped in prayer andmeditation, special times of worship and daily

celebration of Holy Communion.

DOES YOUR SMALL GROUP LISTEN TO YOU?DO YOU LISTEN TO YOUR SMALL GROUP?

Tip 1: Active Listening

Definition:Active listening is communicating to someone that you hear what theyare saying so they feel heard and understood.

Biblical references:• James 1:19— “. . . everyone should be quick to listen . . .”• Proverbs 17:27–28— “A man of knowledge uses words with restraint.”

Why it’s important:• People know they are heard and understood• They feel valued• They discover more about themselves• They are known at a deeper level by others

How to do it:• Make eye contact• Listen to the person who is talking and don’t interrupt• Use statements or questions which show genuine interest and invite more communication• Give feedback• Not everyone in the group needs to respond verbally with questions or statements, but everyoneneeds to acknowledge what the person is saying (i.e., eye contact, nodding, body language)

God birthed Seeking His Face Prayer Ministry from the summer study of The Harbinger.Based off 2 Chronicles 7:14. Seeking His Face opened with a day of prayer focused on our

nation on 9/11. The goal of our ministry is to encourage group prayer focused on topicsinspired by the Holy Spirit or the church body. Everyone is encouraged to participate at

whatever level of involvement they are comfortable with.Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we

may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." We are living in a time ofgreat need. Prayer is our most powerful weapon but we need to wield it! Seeking His Face

prayer ministry offers varied days and times of prayer.Times are listed below...find onethat works for you and join us!

Healthy Church InitiativeJANUARY 2014 CENTER POINT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Disciple

Page 12

The Healthy Church Initiative Team presented their findings to the Administrative Council on December 10th.

One could say the Church has voluntarily undergone a thorough physical for the many benefits of betterhealth…and not unlike any of our personal physicals - there was good news and that will challenge each of us tochange.

The team has worked diligently to identify common trends or themes from your surveys and then worked togetherto identify root causes of these trends…it was a summary of these trends and root causes that the Team presented tothe Ad Council in December.

What will we do with what we have learned?

The appropriate next steps will be determined by the Administrative Council which meets again in January.

A process this important takes time…we ask for your patience.

Again the Team wants to thank you for your response which has enabled us to look within the Church andcommunity as to what the Church is doing right and to what the Church can do better.

Our willingness to communicate, our willingness to ask ourselves difficult questions, and our willingness to listenwill prayerfully bring us closer to the Church Christ has called us to be.

What better way to start the New Year than humbly asking God what can we do better and then doing it!

Blessings – Healthy Church Initiative Team,

Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lampand put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In thesame way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Fatherin heaven.”
