Matthew Genders is a freelance cellist and teacher currently living in the Philadelphia area. He received his Master’s degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, studying with former LA Philharmonic Principal cellist Peter Stumpf, and his bachelor’s degree at Temple University, studying with cellist Jeffrey Solow. As a chamber musician, he has studied with Menahem Pressler, Mark Kaplan, Jorja Fleezanis, and Kurt Muroki. Other studies include masterclasses with Fred Sherry, Colin Carr, Tokyo String Quartet, St. Lawerence String Quartet,and Ben Zander. As an orchestral musician, Matt has been a section member of Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, and the Indiana University Philharmonic Orchestra. A strong advocate for

Q: I have never played cello before, although I would like to learn. Do you teach beginners?

A: Yes! I teach all ages and levels, including absolute beginners. If playing cello interests you, schedule a lesson!

A: Of course. I understand that it can be a challenge to drive to lessons, especially for larger families. I am more than happy to meet students in their homes.
