EntryDescription:AboardtheCelebrityEdge,theGrandPlazaanchorsthepublicspaces,designedbyJouinManku,andthespaceisin-turnanchoredbyasoaringchandelier,manufacturedandinstalledbyKalmarLighting.TheinteriordesignersweregiventhebriefbyRCCLtodesignsomethingnew&innovative-somethingnotyetseenonacruiseship.TheintentionwastoportraytheCelebritybrandasinventiveandasawholenewclassofship.TheParis-baseddesignfirmJouinMankuwerecommissionedtodesignthemainhigh-trafficpublicareas,includingtheGrandPlaza,andSanjitMankuandhisteamansweredthebriefbybringingthecentralpiazza–theGrandPlaza–tolifethroughtransformationallightingdesign.TheintentofPatrickJouinandSanjitMankuwastocreatespacesthatwouldremindgueststhattheyareonaship,offeringtheluxuryandcomfortofaboutiquehotelwithinanexperiencethatspeakstotheout-of-the-ordinaryexperienceoftravellingbysea.Atthesametime,theywantedtocelebratethecraftoftheshipbuildersandweldersbuildingtheEdgebyshowingoffandilluminatingtheformsthatwerestructuralandpleasing,allowingthemtofeaturetheship’sskeletonwithintheinteriors.TheGrandPlazaactsastheepicenterofCelebrityEdge,andJouinMankuhavedesignedaspacethatradiatesanenergythatluresgueststhroughouttheday,asittransformsbothphysicallyandatmospherically.GuestsaredrawntothespacebyTheChandelier,astrikinglightingfeature–andartinstallation–thatrisesovertheMartiniBartotheceilingthreedecksabove.Bydayitisdormant,abeautifulsculpturethattakesonsomeofthereflectionsofthenaturaldaylight,butthenasthesungoesdown,itbeginstoglowawarmorange,illuminatingthespace.Laterstill,itstartstopulse,dancingandentertainingintothenight–abeatingheart.Ateachmomentofthedayitrevealsitselfinadifferentway,transformingthespacefromwarmandintimate,toexcitingandspectacular.
