The Gay Appreciation Awards Board of Directors presented the 19th Lifetime Achieve-ment Award to Michael "Fish" Hickerson for his outstanding service to the communityat the 19th GAA Gala hosted at the Marigny Theatre behind Cowpokes in New Orleans.

For the first time in the 19 year history of the Gay Appreciation Awards, there was atie for Entertainer of the Year. Both New Orleans' Donnie Jay and Austin BabtistWomen's Widow Modine Murphy, Betty Bea Blessing, O'Feelya Faith and Deacon Dave

took home the 2006 award presented at the 19th GAA Gala hosted at the Marigny Theatre in NewOrleans.

The Mystic Krewe of Satyricon hosted the 96th birthday bash for the legendary MissDixie at the Friendly Bar Annex with a succulent buffet. Friends traveled far and widefor this annual event honoring one of the pillars of New Orleans gay society.

NO/AIDS Task Force is bringinghealthcare services into the com-munity with its 37-foot “CareVan,”

donated by Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Macy’sdepartment stores to help provide vital care tothe HIV/AIDS community in the Gulf Coast fol-lowing Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. NO/AIDSTask Force executive director Noel Twilbeckwas presented a check for $40,000 from Eliza-beth Taylor and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foun-dation, by Project Inform's Martin Delaney.

Twilbeck, said the donation goes a longway toward providing the nec-essary care and testing to thecommunity. The 37-footCareVan features two exami-nation tables, an X-ray ma-chine and flat screen TVs.

“This is a phenomenalgift that Elizabeth Taylorwanted to make available topeople with HIV/AIDS. We’reincredibly grateful that she hasreached out with such a valu-able piece of equipment thattruly fills a need in New Or-leans,” Twilbeck said. “Her do-nation has opened other doorsand opportunities for our or-ganization to provide betterhealthcare to the New Or-leans community.”
