There were five contestcenters at Fort Dodge: onestring/band, two vocal,and two band in which thejudge of each center hadthe prerogative of selectingone outstanding event ofthe day — either an out-standing solo or ensemble.

Mason City studentswere recognized in all fivecenters, receiving the IowaHigh School Music Associ-ation “Outstanding Per-formance Award,” a desig-nation of effort andaccomplishment that farexceeds the demands madeby an average high schoolperformance. Only 0.9 of 1percent of all festivalentries in the state receivethis award. Those recog-nized were: ConcertChamber Choir, CraigBergan — vocal solo, KatieDaugherty, Julia Gales,Brittanie Lucas, Katy Wil-son — clarinet quartet,Molly Daugherty —trum-pet solo, and StephanieFaulkner — clarinet solo.

MMAASSOONN CCIITTYY —Twen-ty-two students from theNewman High Schoolmusic department partici-pated in the Iowa HighSchool Music AssociationSolo and Ensemble Festival,April 9, at North ButlerHigh School, Greene.
