Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe / Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo November 26, 2017 / Noviembre 26, 2017

On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the

one and only king over all seasons, all peo-ples, and all of creation. At the end of time as we know it, Christ's work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to partici-pate in Christ's saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls "the least ones" (Matthew 25:45).

REFLECTIONS Dear brothers and sisters, this is the thirty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary time, on which we celebrate the solemnity of Je-sus Christ, King of the universe. Two simple considerations can place us very

well in order to do an important and clear reflection in this Eucharistic Assembly, a) the thirty-fourth Sunday in Ordi-nary time shows us practically the end of the Liturgical year. In fact, next Sunday we will start a new liturgical year with the sacred time of Advent. It is a nice occasion to review our lives and to see if we have responded to the graces we have received from God, putting our talents to the service of oth-ers. b) The solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the universe invites us to examine if our lives depend exclusively on him, and if we have learned to choose the will of God in our lives. For believers, the second coming of Jesus in glory is not something terrific, but an occasion to rejoice and to be glad. In fact he is coming to gather us around him to exer-cise his kingship and sovereignty. He was born to be a king, and this is the time in which we are committed to recognize him and adore him, the only one who deserves glory, honor, power and might. The second coming of our Lord is also to pay to each according to his works. If our lives have been a permanent exercise of mercy, if we have discovered him in our brothers and sisters, especially the poor, who are the very face of God, then we were blessed and happy. If not, he is compassionate, slow to anger, and rich in kindness. Then he gives us one opportunity more to renew our lives in the light of the Holy Spirit and to decide to become wise by dis-covering the will of God and acting according to it. Let us permit Jesus to exercise his kingship and sovereignty. This is the clear invitation of the first reading taken from the book of Daniel, “when he reached the Ancient one, and was pre-sented before him, the one like a Son of man received domin-ion, glory and kingship; all peoples, nations, and languages serve him.” Please do not deny Jesus his own right. In fact, he came to be a king, as he declared to Pilate in his trial. Oh Jesus, I belong to you, please come and reign within me forever!
