Celebrating 40 years of thoughtful books

Making Waldorf Crafts is a recipe book to guide young people through making things on their own (with a little help or guidance from an adult, if needed) with plenty of pictures to follow along as you learn.

These projects provide opportunities to develop dexterity, hand-eye co-ordination and creativity with a series of tried and tested, age-appropriate projects to gradually build up skills.

Techniques include spinning, knitting, sewing and weaving. The projects and techniques are accompanied by stories and anecdotes with a narrative that children won’t be able to resist. From disappearing rabbits (that’s slip knots, of course) and knitted donkeys, here is everything you need to encourage children to learn skills that will im-prove their cognitive development and manual dexterity for life.

Climate change is making us rethink how we use resources and not subscribing to fast-fashion but re-using and mending our clothes has become a mark of pride.

This is visible mending, more akin to embroidery and embellishment that will make your favourite clothing even more personal and save it from landfi ll.

Darning: repair, make, mend by Hikaru Noguchi is a detailed step-by-step guide that makes the methods easy to follow even for non-sewers.

Small Steps to Less Waste includes positive projects to help us to take back control of our waste and reduce our impact on the environment. Ideas and projects from Stroud residents range from making our own toothpaste and household washing liquids, to setting up a Repair Café. All royalties for this title go to the group started by Claudi Williams, Action on Plastic, working across Gloucestershire to educate people about waste.

‘An inspiring read and pragmatic call to arms to help us all reduce the plastic in our lives.’ Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall
