GolfEnjoy A Day on Bedford’s Historic GreensThe Omni Bedford Springs Resort is proud to be the home of one of the country’s first golf courses. The restored, historic course offers an experience of the highest caliber to rival the most private of clubs. Overlooking breathtaking views of the Allegheny Mountains and the Cumberland Valley, this remarkable course spans the work of three golf architectural masters — Spencer Oldham, A.W. Tillinghast, and Donald Ross. Bedford Springs Old Course has undergone a total renovation overseen by noted classic golf course restoration architect Ron Forse, restoring it to its original course layout.

A round of golf on these historically significant tees is a must-play for golf enthusiasts of all levels.

A New ClubhouseLast year, the Omni Bedford Springs opened the Clubhouse at the Old Course. Some 20 years ago, the resort’s original clubhouse was destroyed in a flood and not rebuilt.

The design and finishes pay homage to the resort’s history while also incorporating modern amenities and elements. The 6,000 square foot facility features a restaurant, Tillie’s, with indoor and outdoor dining; locker rooms for ladies and gentlemen, a pro shop, retail and an outdoor lounge area with a fire pit.

Join us as we celebrate our 65th Anniversary and the person who has created a lasting imprint on the association and the food industry for years to come.

On September 1, 1982, David McCorkle joined the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association as its executive director and di-rector of government and public relations. He was appointed president and chief executive officer in 1987. Through the years, McCorkle represented PFMA members on issues such as adult beverage sales, bottle bills, milk pricing, item pricing, menu labeling, minimum wage, uniform food standards, workers’ compensation reform and many others.

During his more than 35-year tenure, PFMA became one of the most influential trade associations in the Commonwealth. Under his leadership with members and staff, PFMA worked to change outdated adult beverage laws; added convenience stores and wholesalers as members; started Merchants Express Money Order Co.; established the Thomas R. and Laura Ridge Scholarship program; developed a responsible tobacco sales program; formed the Delaware Food Industry Council; and implemented commit-tees to discuss issues facing association members.

McCorkle stepped down on July 1, 2017 and became president emeritus to provide staff guidance and continue to promote the association. Plan to join us to celebrate David McCorkle’s 36-year career and the success of PFMA.

Invited Guest Speakers: Representative David L. Reed (R-Indiana), and Senator John H. Eichelberger Jr. (R-Blair, Cumberland (part), Franklin (part), Fulton and Huntingdon (part) Counties

Start off your day with Sauder’s Quality Eggs nutritious omelets. The Sauder’s Eggs team will be on hand at breakfast to make omelets to your specifications. Enjoy a relaxing breakfast while networking with PFMA members.

After breakfast hear from our invited guests about legislative issues impacting the food industry and

what to expect for the upcoming election.

Concurrent Seminars“Developing Consumer Relationships and Trust by Increasing Access to Product Information.”Presented by: Greg Costa, director of state affairs, Grocery Manufacturers Association (invited)

Today’s consumers are demanding more informa-tion about the products they use and consume. The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) developed the SmartLabel™ digital transparency initative to address those demands. The associations estab-lished the Trading Partner Alliance (TPA) as the working group to build the SmartLabel program. With more than 325 people from 90 different companies, the group created the first generation platform in January 2016. The industry’s goal is to provide information and an experience that’s

credible, trustworthy, memorable and motivational. The result is a SmartLabel™ that provides a plethora of product details that could never fit on a package label. Join GMA in this session to learn more about the new technology and how it will provide the information your customers are seeking.

Concurrent SeminarsThe Future of Food: Panel discussion on millennials’ impact on the food industryModerated by: Lisa Dell’Alba, Square One Markets, Bethlehem, Pa.

Millennials or Generation Y consumers, born in the early 1980s through early 2000s, have great buying power and so much influence that they are changing the way we go to market. Many millenials are starting their own families and see the world differently than their parents and grandparents.

Meet some millennials working in the food industry and find out what drives their buying decisions; where they shop and when they shop. Gain insight into developing marketing strategies that resonate with this generation.
