Jacob’s Heart Core Values and beliefs

❤ Every child going through cancer or another life-threatening condition needs a strong and supportive family able to hold their hand and be part of the care-giving team.

❤ When a child is diagnosed with cancer the entire family is in need of support regardless of socioeconomic status.

❤ Every child’s life is precious and each child’s dignity must remain intact throughout treatment, during anticipatory grief and compassionately cared for in the end of life.

❤ The loss of a child is a unique and special sorrow, and families bereaved by the death of a child need ongoing care and sup-port without limits to time.

❤ Because of these beliefs, we make every attempt to tailor our services to each family’s unique needs.

We’re Honored to SHare these core values and beliefs with our major donors and sponsors

Celebrating twenty years of giving

Jim and Nanci Dobbins, An Evening with FriendsNearly 20 years ago, Nanci and Jim Dobbins decided to honor the memory of Nanci’s baby sister Susie by investing in Jacob’s Heart, a decision that changed their lives and helped build the organization into what it is today. As major benefactors themselves, Jim and Nanci are inspiring an ever-expanding group of compassionate donors through their annual “Evening with Friends,” now raising more than $100,000 annually for Jacob’s Heart. Nanci has served on the Jacob’s Heart board for many years leading our philanthropic strategies, and ensuring that Susie’s legacy lives on through the lives and memories of hundreds of local children each year.

In 1998, when Jacob’s Heart was an emerging idea, Rob Stewart called with an offer to help. Grieving the loss of his precious son Jordan, Rob had decided to turn his love of golf into a way to honor Jordan’s memory and the memory of Kyra Pillsbury whose life, like Jordan’s, was cut short by cancer. The Jordan and Kyra Memorial Foundation gave Jacob’s Heart its first major gift, and over the next two decades the relationship has grown from donor to partner, with the Jordan & Kyra Memorial Golf Tournament raising $100,000 annually for Jacob’s Heart. Jacob’s Heart and Jordan & Kyra is truly a match made in heaven.

Jordan and Kyra Memorial Foundation

For 20 years, Jacob’s Heart has alleviated the suffering of children with cancer and provided invaluable comfort to the families who love and care for them. Although we maintain a No-Fee-for-Services Model, and received no federal or state funding, we successfully sustain services year after year by cultivating deep and abiding relationships with our donors and philanthropic partners. We’d like to introduce you to the generous individuals who have been giving to Jacob’s Heart for nearly two decades.

❤ We make every effort to accurately acknowledge each loving gift made to Jacob’s Heart. If we inadvertently misspelled or left off your name, please accept our sincere apologies, and let us know.

A leukemia survivor himself, Scott Roseman and his wife Jasmine Berke have invested in Jacob’s Heart since the beginning, both as personal donors and through New Leaf Community Markets.

Through her own journey with cancer, as a founding board member and current board president, Melissa McDill has been a steadfast supporter of Jacob’s Heart for two decades.

Turning grief into action, Christy Licker founded Caroline’s Nonprofit Thrift Shop and has gifted Jacob’s Heart with a total of $142,500 in memory of Caroline and in honor of all children.

Dick and Marisela Peixoto have turned life with cancer into compassion in action, donating $148,000 over the years to Jacob’s Heart to make sure that every child in our community is cared for and loved.

JACOB’S HEART THANKS OuR MAJOR DONORSJacob’s Heart exists to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by supporting their families in the challenges they face. For two decades, we have provided emotional, practical, financial and peer support to hundreds of local children with cancer and thousands of their family members. We envision a community where every child with a serious or life-threatening condition has a strong, supported and informed family empowered to fully participate in their care. We strive to inspire compassionate action within local communities, to create a safety net of support for the unique needs of each child and family.

Jacobs Heart thanks our major donors who believe in this mission and vision and invest in us to make it possible.
