MEDIA RELEASE TEMPLATELet local media know you’re joining thousands of other Scouts in New South Wales in reaffirming your Scout Promise! They may be keen to help spread the word by running a story and picture about your Promise Renewal Ceremony. Get in touch with them at least two weeks before your event to let them know what you’re doing and why.

Subject line: <insert Group name> get loud for 110 year anniversary Copy:More than [number] Scout members and their leaders will gather at [location] to renew their Scout promise on Sunday 18th November.

The [Group] will join over 18,000 Scouts across New South Wales participating in the reaffirmation of the Scout promise – the set of values, which Scouts pledge to live their lives by.

[Group Leader] of [Formation Name], [Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms] [First name] [Surname] says the Scout Promise and Law bonds all Scouting members in New South Wales and Australia under a single commitment.

“All members promise to live by the same Scout Promise and Law,” [Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms] [Surname] said.

The Scouting Promise is made by every Scout to do their best. It guides us to be open to the many different beliefs in the world, to appreciate the impact we each make to our community, our country and world, and in turn, to understand and respect how the world can impact our lives. Alongside the Promise, every Scout agrees to live by the values in the Scout Law – be respectful, do what is right, and believe in myself.

“By reaffirming our promise, we are reminded of our commitment to Scouting and how the Promise is reflected in our everyday lives.”

While Scouting is primarily an active, outdoors youth organization, it retains many of the traditions established over a century ago, including ceremonies to welcome people into Scouting and to commit to a set of shared values.

-- ENDS – About Scouts NSW Scouts is the largest and longest running youth development organisations in the world. Over a billion young people have experienced Scouting since it was established in 1907. We offer outdoors adventures for young people aged 6 to 25 – from flying a plane, to caving and abseiling, to acting in Gang Show or camping under the stars. This year marks 110 years of Scouting in Australia. We are also celebrating achieving a seven year high in total membership, following recent growth in youth and adult membership across New South Wales,

The contribution from our members has a remarkable and positive impact on the lives of young people across NSW. We estimate the economic benefit to our local communities through Scouting is more than $10 million each year.
