History

Celador was founded in 1983 by Jasper Carrott and Paul Smith CBE and it was a small British business that’s aim was to produce films. When Celador Co produced Slumdog Millionnaire they we’re bought out by complete communications but since Celador made so much money they bought their own company back. Celador is now run by Danielle Lux after they bought themselves out.

Compared to some competitors Celador is successful however to some of the bigger companies such as Sony they may not be as successful due to having a smaller budget.

Ownership

Paul Smith CBE, is chairman on Celador Entertainment limited which is the umbrella company for Celador films.

In 2006 Celador took Disney to court for unpaid profits for playing “who wants to be a millionaire” in the US. After trial by jury in LA in 2010 Celador got £177,000,000 in damages after ruling they didn’t receive their fair share of profits.

Operating Model

Celador aren’t huge so they hire everyone for each task such as people for acting roles, camera crew, technicians etc. Celador also re invest in themselves to create new movies. They found the money for The Descent so they teamed up with Northman productions to make The Descent who then had to hire the personal.
