DESCRIPTION

Cooking Up a Storm… is a performance task assessment designed to initiate prior knowledge involving weather and geologic phenomena. This project is an introduction to Grade 5, Theme 3 “A Changing Planet.” Students create a Power Point presentation formatted as a recipe used to apply to an elite science camp. They begin research with non-fiction texts, searching for the following ingredients (things necessary for the occurrence), step-by-step instructions for the occurrence, and causes and effects of it. They use web sites assigned on TrackStar, sending their application to staff and alumni of “Camp Wannabeabigstar,” hoping to be accepted.
