The delegation had couple of experts from multimedia library in the countries of West Indies and therefore the delegation spent a lot of time in witnessing the digitization of large repository of the educational programme with the help of newly acquired MAM Server and other allied equipment by CEC. The delegation showed keen interest in seeking specific short-term and long-term training programmes in the area of e-content and delivery mechanism.

The CEC being an Inter-University Centre of the UGC has its own limitation in satisfying the queries as raised by the delegation as decision with regard to conduct of bilateral training and visit can only be taken by UGC or MHRD at generic level. However, the CEC has promised the delegation to provide all technical know-how which could be rendered on-line with regard to the development of e-content, preparation of equipment specifications and their procurement, capacity building, etc. provided an agreement is reached at the governmental level.

From the discussions with the members of the delegation it was appreciated that whereas large countries like India are resorting to on-line education due to imbalance in demand and supply, the small countries in other parts of the world seek to adopt on-line education for want of quality education at their level. Since the course curricula at undergraduate level are more or less at par with global level, such kind of collaboration will be beneficial for the student fraternity, worldwide.

The CEC on various platforms proved its capabilities of production of educational programmes, e-contents and

delivery mechanism. As a result several developing countries from African and Asian Continents have invariably been requesting CEC to arrange for their training in production of educational programmes and delivery mechanism on television; few others have requested for e-content development for on-line education.

The whole question of capacity building has to be considered in the framework of bilateral programme with these countries having provision for capacity building and the mechanism for financing thereto. It is high time that the issue is deliberated at higher level so that India through its established agency, like CEC, could initiate its contribution for the less privileged countries in the area of on-line education.

Shackled Motherhood

No child is more desolate than one without a mother. No woman is more miserable than one away from her child. The programme presents the social and psychological conditions of those children whose mothers have been convicted for hasty actions committed in moments of weakness or aberration and are imprisoned as criminals.

Since, either as the child is very small and cannot survive without its mother or because there is no one in the family to take care of the child, they are compelled to stay with their mother in the jail.

This programme is specifically addressed to the social and psychological conditions of such children and their mothers.

A Story of an Urban Zoo

th8 August, 2012

Nutrition of Bacteria

Earth, the largest and densest rocky planet, was formed about 4.5 billion years ago. The planet Earth is made up of three main shells: the very thin, brittle crust, the mantle, and the core; the mantle and core are each divided into two parts, which is typical of rocky planets. Each layer has different characteristics and is made of different elements and minerals.

The Earth 'solid inner core, made mostly of iron and nickel. A liquid outer core, also mostly iron and nickel, surrounds this. The diameter of the core is estimated to be 7000 km, compared with a 12,700 km diameter for the entire planet. The crust is only a few tens of kilometers thick. The region between the core and the crust is called the mantle. The upper part of the mantle and the crust together are called the lithosphere. Sitting just below the lithosphere is a region of plastic consistency called the asthenosphere.

In preview two programme of the series a good quantum of information was provided. This particular programme is a kind of agenda to these provisions of two programmes. It narrates the success story of a bad zoo of breeding in captivity for Nicobar Pigeons. These could not breed in zoo at Nicobar Islands. It's under schedule - 1 category of endangered species.

The movement of the plates is either divergent that move away from each other: or it can be convergent namely, they move towards each other, or it may be a Transform Margin, where the two plates slide past each other. Knowledge of Plate Tectonics helps us to locate areas prone to natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanism and tsunami.

The environment around us has a fascinating world of micro organisms which affect our life directly or indirectly. The existence of microbial world was unknown until the invention of Microscope at the beginning of seventeenth century, which opened the realm of microorganisms to systematic scientific exploration.

Microbial cells are structurally complex and carry out numerous functions. In order to construct new cellular components and do cellular work, organisms must have a supply of raw materials or nutrients and a source of energy.

Nutrients are substances used in biosynthesis and energy release and therefore are required for microbial growth. Analysis of microbial cell composition shows that over 95%of cell dry weight is made up of a few major elements; Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Sulphur, Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron. These are called microelements of macronutrients because they are required by microorganisms in relatively large amounts. This film deals in detail about the nutrition in bacteria.

This programme discusses about our Solar System. Sun and other planets - their physical characteristics, and their relation to living organisms with regard to light, heat, time, space and cultural aspects of human species.

Plate Techniques

Every society tries to impart knowledge and learning to their children. The modern society has formed institutions for this purpose. We call them schools and colleges. Learning and education are now taken to mean the same thing. But is that true? Does our present day educational system teach our children to be truly learned persons? Who is a learned person? What is the function of the educational system at the moment? The views of the teachers is expressed by Mrs. S. Sengupta. The students too are given a chance to express their views in this programme.

Milk is a nutritive beverage which is most commonly used. This episode discusses in detail regarding its physical & chemical structure, its composition, its types, its history, its consumption in India, its production in India as well as its distribution.

The dynamics of the plate movements are known as plate tectonics. The programme “Plate Tectonics” is about the Plate Tectonic Theory, which tries to explain all the geological features recorded on the earth's surface throughout the geological time.Alfred Wagener had proposed the Hypothesis of Continental Drift. But he had failed to explain the mechanism that had driven apart the continental plates.Geo-scientists examined the mechanism of Continental Drift and the Sea-Floor Spreading Hypothesis. This led to the advent of the theory of Plate Tectonics.

Sports as a Career

"let there be a light", said the lord and there was light. Man invented glass to let the precious enter the shelter of his house to dispel the darkness. The application of glass extends from the bangles of newly wed bride to high technologies exploring cosmos.

Chemically glass is a silicate material. Principally it consists of silicates of sodium and potassium. From physicist point of view, glass is a super cooled highly viscous liquid material, which is hard, brittle, amorphous and transparent to translucent.

Glass is manufactured by blending the powdered raw material in proper Proportion and fused in a specially designed furnace.

Glass is a wonderful material. It has entered into our household, kitchen ware, ornament and scientific instrument. In fact we cannot imagine our modern living without Glass.

In this programme we witness the fury of the river Ganges as it erodes Panchanandapur, a village in the district of Malda in West Bengal.

Almost every year many villages of this district along the holy river are eroded. Panchanandapur is also a victim of this natural catastrophe. Most of the villagers have lost their land, houses and almost all other belongings in the river water. The programme reveals their anguish as they narrate their hapless encounters with the cruel river.

The Farakka barrage, constructed about 20 kilometers downstream, is believed to be responsible for this disaster by many of the villagers.

Tons of silt is deposited in this region each year. This deposition has resulted in the formation of clusters of islands, locally known as 'chars'. The poor destitute villagers often seek shelter on these 'chars'. The programme also explores the socio-economics life of these people.

Today sports have acquired enormous importance. Though a variety of sports have been embraced, cricket remains the one sport India lives by. With the world's best cricket team media attention and all the glamour involved, many youngsters have determined to make the game their career option. This programme explores the reasons behind the trend of young people taking up cricket.

This film is like a trip to a Forest Pathologist laboratory. It portrays the way they work and the techniques they use in diagnosing plant diseases.

The importance of fungi gradually builds up as we discover both harmful as well as beneficial fungi interacting with the forest as well as the pathologist.

The programme gives a brief historical account of the pyramids & other Islamic & Christian monuments of Egypt. The pyramid of Giza is specially mentioned herein relation to the different positions of Stars, in the belt of Orion.

The sex ratio in India is declining with alarming rate. The programme tries to analyze the reasons. It is noted that son preference has always been there, but with the development of technology, it has taken a brutal. It is also seen that sex selective abortions are more Rampant in materially developed regions. The film looks at various measures which can bring about the change in societal attitudes.

Communication is an integral part of human civilization and

culture. It is the availability or access to communication which

makes a difference in the lives of every society or an individual. In

this programme, the EMMRC, Manipur University team traveled

into the hills and rural parts of Manipur to feel and see the

communication systems in villages.
