command, change attribute command, draw tool, select tool and edit commands.

Also learn how to set the units of drawing, paper size, scale and open a 2D or 3D seed

file.

Hint: Open a 2D seed file.

Duration: one turn

1. Draw a line of a length x, then extend it by an amount y, and then trim it by an

amount z.

(solid to dash etc).

3. Select the above line, change its colour to red, and again to blue.

4. Draw a rectangle of any dimension, and change the colour of its lines.

PRACTICAL 2 – BASIC ELEMENTS OF MICROSTATION – 2D

OBJECT: To understand the basic commands of Microstation for filling it with a

colour, changing the colour, determine area and perimeter, and dimensioning command.

Learn the snap command, accu draw command and scale of the dimensioning text with

respect to that of the drawing.

Duration: two turns

1. Draw a polygon, fill it with red colour and then change it to yellow.

2. Draw a circle of any radius and center, and change its colour.

3. Fill the circle with red colour and then change it to purple.

4. Determine the perimeter and area of the above polygon and circle.

5. Draw a rectangle, mark the dimensions of each side of the rectangle. Place the

dimensions above or below the dimension lines. Try various options of drawing

dimension lines available in the software.

6. Draw a circle passing through three given points. Mark its radius inside the circle.

7. Draw a line and then draw a circle tangent to the line.

8. Place a sine curve with having “n” cycles and given amplitude and frequency.

PRACTICAL 3 – BASIC ELEMENTS OF MICROSTATION – 2D

OBJECT: To understand the basic commands of Microstation for circular fillets,

chamfering, and filling with colours in certain specific zones.

Learn line, smart line (for filling colours), angle bisector, modify element and B-spline

(open curve and close curve), group commands.

Duration: two turns

1. Draw a polygon, and draw a circle inside it. Then fill the area except the circle

with red colour and then change it to green.

2. Determine the net area of the polygon without that of the circle.

3. In the above problem, fill the circle in blue colour and the rest of the outer area

within the polygon with red colour.

4. Chamfer the corners of the polygon with different radii.

5. Draw a rectangle and modify the corners with fillets.

6. Draw a line. Draw another line perpendicular to it at its mid point.

7. Draw a line and draw another line at a given angle and at a give position on this

line.

8. Bisect this angle in the above problem. Mark the dimension of the angle.

9. Draw B-spline curves by defining control points. Try various available options.

Fill the curve with different colours.

10. Draw an ice cream cone with double scoop ice cream. Show ribs as in an ice

cream cone.

PRACTICAL 4 – BASIC ELEMENTS OF MICROSTATION – 3D

OBJECT: To understand the basic commands of Microstation for making a 3D element

– cuboid, sphere, cylinder, cone, and frustums.

Hint: Open a 3D seed file.

Learn extrude, construct union, divide, intersect, cut solid, remove faces and heel

commands.

Duration: two turns

1. Draw a rectangle and extrude it to obtain a cuboid.

2. Draw a circle and extrude it to obtain a cylinder.

3. Draw an inclined line and rotate it to obtain a cone and a frustum.

4. Determine the volume of each of the above 3D elements.

5. Draw a polygon and extrude it to obtain a prism.

6. Draw a circle and extrude it to obtain a cylinder and cut a cylindrical hole through

it.

7. Draw a parallelepiped and make a hole at a given angle through it.

8. Draw an artistic 3D flower vase.

PRACTICAL 5 – BASIC ELEMENTS OF MICROSTATION – 3D

OBJECT: To understand the basic commands of Microstation for making a 3D element

and cutting with a plane and taking projections.

Hint: learn projections, feature, modifier, cut hole

Duration: two turns

1. Draw a cone and cut it with a horizontal plane. Separate the two parts.

2. Draw a cylinder and cut it with an inclined plane. Separate the two parts.

3. From a point in space, draw a perpendicular to a given plane. Find the length of

this perpendicular.

4. Draw a cylinder inclined at an angle of 30o with horizontal. Take its projections

on x-y, y-z and z-x planes. Verify using the principles of Engineering Graphics.

5. Draw leaves of any plant.

6. Draw a beautiful landscape view showing greenry.

You can download the cells from http://selectservices.bentley.com/en-

Leaf drawn using the concept of FRACTALS/cells – Note the basic figure is a

triangle in this case. It is used in different shapes and sizes to get the desired effect. Now

you may fill it with smooth shading etc.
