FEB 2013 CDU ACIKE

The Centre is the first of its kind in Australia, bringing together the Bachelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education and Charles Darwin University. The $30 million building, funded by the Australian Government will provide programs for Indigenous participation in higher education.

Located at the Charles Darwin University Casuarina Campus, the new dedicated, purpose built building features a cascading rooftop waterfall during the ‘Wet Season’ rains. The cascading rooftop waterfall provides a great ‘green story’ for the CDU ACIKE Project.

To contribute towards the ‘green story of this project’ the design concept includes the collection and reuse of water condensation from the air-conditioners.

The collected water is used in the man-made waterway that wanders through the complex. Both the Building and our selection of loose furniture for this project achieved Green Building Council of Australia, Green Star Four rating.

On completion of the tender process we were provided with a ‘creative license’ to select the loose furniture extent for the CDU ACIKE Project.

We wanted students and staff to ‘love their furniture’ and clean colors and textures were used to dress up our furniture to achieve vibrant energy in all learning spaces. The CDU Project Management required robust furniture in bright colors.

A key consideration in the selection of all our core furniture was the ‘green story and life cycle’ of every furniture item to achieve the ‘highest points allocation’ available by the Green Building Council Australia.

Irwin Consultants collated the data and support documentation to the Green Building Council to achieve Green Star Rating Four, for both the building and loose furniture extent.

Training Rooms Lightweight warrior stools were used to allow stacking or moveability for dual -purpose use for learning rooms or for events indoors or outdoors. Custom Pear Shape Flip tables, engineered to allow two pear shaped tops to become one, using to flip bases. Mobile White-board and Pin-boards were provided for all training rooms.

Relaxed Study The amazing space allowed bright colours and large furniture pieces to be used. Jardan soft seating is featured in this space. Cube Ottomans on plinth scattered throughout…!!!

Art Gallery & Cafe A dual purpose space, the Art Gallery café at the CDU ACIKE Ground Floor houses art exhibitions and has a small café. The furniture selected for this space allows for multiple settings and arrangement of furniture to suit the ever changing ‘art exhibitions’. Acrylic tub chairs, and flip top tables allow easy arrangement and configuration of layout.

Art Gallery Cafe The Konfurb Block Ottomans were teamed with Konfurb Bos Tubs. Bos Tubs were placed around coffee tables featuring Baresque ‘Alchemy Tops’. The Konfurb Block Ottomans are part of Konfurb’s ‘collaborative collection’. Perfectly proportion modular furniture, allowing multiple layout combinations…
