Comrades, Sisters, & Brothers,
Somehow, we find ourselves in March
already, I know February is the shortest
month but it seemed faster than usual
this year. It was fast but definitely pro-
ductive, we have instituted some changes
around the Post and Canteen to ensure
that we continue to be a viable post in
the future and do our best to uphold the
mission of the VFW.
Our Superbowl party was a rousing success and everyone
looked to me like they were having a great time. I left in
the fourth quarter but only because I had been paying too
much attention to that game and needed a nap. Seriously,
I think that was the most boring Superbowl game ever but
the crowd at Post 2111 was still having a great time.
I have heard that the Valentine’s dinner was really good
and I’m sort of sad that my wife and I had to miss it but
that’s life. I hope everyone had a great time with their
partners and truly enjoyed the evening.
We’ve had a couple of pretty raucous birthday parties at
the Post in the past month as well and I know everyone
had a great time at those, I can tell from the bar receipts.
Hopefully we’ll continue to have that sort of participation
in the coming months and years.
Some of you may have noticed that there have been some
changes around the Post and Canteen as I eluded to earlier
in this article. I just want to get ahead of one thing with
regard to these changes, before you decide to complain or
belly-ache around the bar take a moment to think of what
could have been done instead. If you can’t come up with
anything, there’s nothing to say or complain about. If you
do have an idea of how things could be done differently, I
welcome your ideas and criticisms and I hope that you
will get more involved to help us in the future.
Coming up this month we get to celebrate what I like to
call “Amateur Night”; most people call it St. Patrick’s
Day and some of us have been training all year for this
day. I just ask that everyone be safe out there as there are
a lot of people that think they can handle more liquor than
they can and they try to drive and Patty’s Day is one of
the worst for it. We will also have our usual Birthday
Bash and all the revelry that goes along with it, come out
and celebrate with our Comrades, Brothers, and Sisters
that were born in the month of March.
Greetings to All,
With February being a short
month, March sure came around
pretty quickly. I hope this message
finds everyone well and healthy.
February was an eventful month
including a great Super Bowl par-
ty, and a wonderful Valentines din-
ner for all to enjoy. To honor Pres-
idents Day we had our American
flags set out to line Third Avenue in downtown Chula
Vista. These events and all other events involving our
Post and Auxiliary would not be possible without our
members being involved. Thank you to all who help
make things happen. I would like to see more of our
membership get involved. We have many activities, with
limited help. We would love to have more volunteers, so
please reach out and extend a helping hand.
Speaking of volunteers, I am so grateful for the help that
was given for this month’s breakfast, dinners and Taco
Tuesdays. Thank you Joanne Smith, Lupe Duggins, Cindi
Lou, Georgean, Pam, Salina, Brigitte, Tracy and Martin.
Your continued help and support are very much appreci-
ated!
It is now time to start thinking about nominations for
Auxiliary officers for the upcoming year 2019-2020. It is
very important that everyone be involved in this election.
I encourage you to look at taking an office, or if you
know someone who might be interested in a position,
please don’t hesitate to nominate him or her. Please keep
in mind if you take an office, you will need to be commit-
ted to that position. Please consider getting involved with
the Auxiliary and being part of a team that helps support
our Veterans.
March is here with more activities for all. Don’t forget
the time change on March 10th. Move your clocks ahead
1 hour. March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, Laughlin Trip
March 24-26. For more activities, check out the March
Calendar of Events for dates and times for all that’s hap-
pening this month.
Don’t forget our Auxiliary meeting March 14th,
6:30pm. With the large number of members we have,
only a small percentage attend the meetings. I would
love to see some new faces at our meetings.
Have a marvelous March!
Best Regards,
Maureen Casper

Lastly, I mentioned getting involved earlier and, have I
got a deal for you! Nominations for Post positions take
place this month. All of our positions are one-year terms
and any member in good-standing can be nominated but
the person has to be present, or have sent official corre-
spondence, in order to accept the nomination. This will
take place at our regularly scheduled Post meeting which
if you don’t know (and our attendance says that’s a lot of
you) is on the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm
(or 1830 for you military types). That all means that you
should all mark your calendars for Thursday, March 21st
at 6:30 pm (1830) and help guide the future of your Post.
I suppose that’s all I have for this month, though I’m sure
someone will remind me that I missed something so I’ll
just apologize now, sorry. As always, if there is anything
that I can do for you or you have any ideas for future
events/ fundraisers please don’t hesitate to contact me
directly, my business cards are all over the Post and who
am I kidding, I’ll never run out.
In True Comradeship,
Humbly Yours,
Andy Baker
Commander, VFW Post 2111

SCHEDULE

5 March 2019
12:00 pm till 3:00 pm
Dear Comrades, Sisters,
Brothers, and Friends,
I know February is a short
month, but it just sped by.
Thank you to all who have
come down to support our
Canteen and Kitchen, as well as participated in our Raf-
fles and other offerings on the weekend evenings.
As you may have noticed, the cost of the High Call drinks
has increased. This is due to the increase in prices from
our suppliers. Our Well Drinks and Canned Beer remain
the same for now, we made a change in our Towel and
Washing Chemical Vendor to save some serious money.
Don’t forget about our St. Patrick’s Day Dinner on
(March 17th) by Brigitte….come and enjoy the festivities
and fun and great food!
There are still several seats available for the Laughlin
Trip on March 24-26. Please sign up and pay if you are
wanting to go. We need to get the correct numbers to the
bus company and the Edgewater. Roland will be serving
breakfast that morning.
Yours in Comradeship,
Ed Hamilton, House Committee Chair
MARCH 2019 MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Hello VFW Post 2111 Members, Families and Friends, Let’s
welcome Two New Members, voted in at the Feb. Post Meet-
ing.
Michael Agunod - US Navy, GWOT, LIFE
Ronaldo Bongget - US Navy, Vietnam, LIFE
Thank you both for your Service!
We all can Help the Post with efforts to increase membership
this year by encouraging veterans we know or meet, to join us,
as Annual or Life members. Annual dues the first year are $45.
Then, $40 for yearly renewals. (Or $3.33 per month, about the
cost of one canteen beverage per month). Life is a better value,
over time: $45 first, with 11 monthly payments, by age. Then
the Life Card is issued. Or is issued quickly, with one full Life
payment.
The Post presently has 1011 Life members; 68 Annuals re-
newed; 9 new members and 2 reinstate, or 1090 total members.
(98.02% of last fiscal year).
Find Membership Envelopes and applications behind the can-
teen. See Steps to Membership, near the Bugle. Call for ques-
tions re eligibility, or for assistance with the VFW Application.
