A. General Information
Project Title: “Kilos Mamamayan Para sa Malinis na Kapaligiran”
Target Community/Beneficiaries: All members of Barangay 744, Zone 80, District V, of Malate, Manila
Community Background:
Residents throw their garbage anywhere, in being dependent on sweepers and garbage collectors to collect their garbage
Barangay has an efficient waste management system but with residents not strictly following proper waste disposal and segregation
Recurrent problems on flooding due to improper waste disposal and inefficient drainage system
Densely populated area of about 1,000 residents bounded by other barangays who are able to infiltrate their community from four corners
B. Objectives:
General Objective:
To promote discpline, cleanliness, and healthy living by improving the community’s waste solid management, waste segregation, and disposal system.
Specific Objective:
To improve the community’s systematic and organized waste disposal system that will lessen improper waste disposal
To promote waste segregation and management
To encourage residents to become responsible for their own trash
To inform residents on the benefits of a clean and healthy environment
To lessen the problems brought about by flooding due to improper waste disposal

Preparation:The project was conceptualized based on the assessment done on the barangay, upon investigating on the community’s waste disposal system and management. In preparation for the project, the team will coordinate with the chairman in getting his permission to conduct activities within the barangay. The group will conduct surveys and interviews in understanding the root cause and the specific problems brought about by the issue at hand.

Actual Activities:The project will be implemented through the support of the barangay head and chairman, and with the help of the community’s garbage management team. The flow of activity will include the team doing volunteer work in helping the barangay’s sweepers and garbage collectors with their work, followed by the putting of posters and signs regarding waste management and segregation, and lastly, the distribution of leaflets and articles concerning health problems that can

Post-implementation Activities:The project will be assessed through surveys distributed to residents, especially on those already previously surveyed on the pre-implementation stage. Officials will be asked to help in the evaluation of the community, as well as in the analysis of the people’s response to implemented activities. The barangay chairman and residents will also be interviewed in the process of evaluation and in updating with the community’s progress.

The efficiency and effectivity of the project will be assessed, as well as the people’s response with the project’s activities in understanding how further regulation and strict implementation can affect people’s observation of new rules.
