7 Key Steps to a Conscious and Real Partnership with your Horse

1. Presence: Being in the present moment is crucial to relating successfully and safely to horses.

2. Self-Awareness: Staying focussed on You rather than your horse.

3. Body Awareness: Paying attention to and staying connected to any bodily sensations,

feelings and needs.

7 Key Steps to a Conscious and Real Partnership with your Horse

4. Emotional Congruency: Feeling and acknowledging your real feelings, not covering these up or pretending. Horses intensely dislike masks of confidence and well-being and will not engage willingly or safely with us when we wear these.

5. Sensitivity: To your own feelings, body and needs and that of your horse. Approaching, touching and riding with sensitivity is essential to building trust and establishing a relationship with horses.

7 Key Steps to a Conscious and Real Partnership with your Horse

6. Sensing and respecting layers of Personal Space and Boundaries: This is vital to building a trusting response from your horse. Invading his space will lead to physical discomfort and tension in your horse. Learning how to respect his layers of personal space you gain his trust and speak his language, making all your time together more enjoyable and easier!

7. Having your Own clear Boundaries: Horses need to know where our boundaries are too. They respond positively to a clear, sense of self and confident boundaries.
