Council Position Job Description VICE PRESIDENT Council Area Executive Committee Reports To Council President Position Summary The Vice President serves as an “understudy” to the State Council President-Elect in preparation for succession to President-Elect. He/she works with the President to establish policy, strategies, goals and objectives consistent with SHRM Board policies and to ensure all Council activities, goals and objectives are reached. The incumbent oversees council Core Leadership Areas (CLAs)to include College Relations, Diversity, Global Affairs, Government Affairs, HR Certification, HR Technology, Membership, SHRM Foundation, and Workforce Readiness and manages the Succession Planning Committee. Term of Office Elected by the Council. Serves a 1-year term, with an additional 1- year term renewable option, beginning the 1 st day of January and ending the 31 st day of December. Duties and

Core:

Council:

· Assist the President and the President-Elect in overseeing the affairs of the Council, to include the direction of activities, plans and objectives of the Council and the evaluation of the performance of appointed council members, in conjunction with the Executive Committee.

· Perform all duties of the President-Elect, in the absence or inability of the President-Elect.

· Manage the affairs of the Council, in the absence of the Council President and the President-Elect.

· Assist the President in administering the Council Bylaws.

· Oversee the activities of the CLAs to include College Relations, Diversity, Global Affairs, Government Affairs, HR Certification, HR Technology, Membership, SHRM Foundation and Workforce Readiness.

· Co-chair the “idea generation” core leader area and council services breakfast meetings held prior to each Council meeting, with the Council Secretary.

· Approve CLA expense reports prior to submission to the Treasurer for payment.

· Sign checks on the Council’s bank account in the absence of the President-Elect or President; checks in the amount of $3,000 or more must also be signed by the Treasurer and approved by the annual budget of the State Council or the majority vote of the Directors.

· Develop and maintain Council position summaries and descriptions.

· Present Council succession plan and position descriptions annually to the Executive Committee for approval.

· Provide staff to the HR Florida booth for chapter events and conference.

· Serve as chair of the Succession Planning committee.

· Serve as an active participant on the State Conference committee.

· Assist other officers in the performance of their responsibilities, upon request.

· Perform special projects as assigned by the President.

State Conference:

· Coordinate with SHRM staff to promote SHRM products and services at the conference (e.g., Bookstore, SHRM exhibit hall booth, etc.).

· Coordinate the staffing of the HR Florida exhibit hall booth in conjunction with the Volunteers Chair.

· Work with State Conference Director to ensure the conference team meets established objectives.

Chapters:

· Maintain ongoing communication with chapter presidents; attend chapter board or member meetings when appropriate.

· Make presentations to chapters and other interested parties regarding HR Florida, upon request.

SHRM:

· Represent the HR Florida State Council at SHRM Southeast Regional Council meetings, in the absence of the President and President-Elect.

· Assist the President in establishing policy, strategy, goals and objectives consistent with those of SHRM.

Required Skills and Abilities

· Certification by the HR Certification Institute highly desirable.

· Previous experience as a District Director or Chapter President highly desirable.

· Knowledge of Roberts Rules highly desirable.
